How to take a Screenshot and submit it to the site
by kentona

You will need:
  • Your project
  • Paint (a.k.a. MSPaint)

Part I - Taking the Screenshot

This is Windows 101 guys (maybe 102). Everybody ought to know how to take and save a screenshot - it's a useful and simple skill that has a myriad of uses.

1. Run your project
- I prefer to do it in Full Screen mode. That way, you don't have to crop the image to get rid of the Windows header and border
2. Press Alt + Print Screen
- This saves a picture of the visible and active window to the Windows Clipboard
3. Exit or minimize your project
4. Open Paint
- Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint
5. Resize the Image Attributes to 320 x 240 (or smaller)
6. Press Ctrl + V (or Edit > Paste)
- Even if your image dimensions are too small, Paint automatically expands the width and height to at least the size of the picture in the Clipboard
7. Goto File > Save
- The common Save dialog box opens, typically defaulting to the My Pictures directory
8. Set 'Save as type:' to 'PNG (*.PNG)'
10. Click 'Save'

Part II - Submitting the Screenshot

As a prerequisite, you must have already submitted the game to the site.

NOTE: The game does not have to be 'Accepted' yet!
You are free to add or edit your submission at any time, even before the admins approve the game. In fact, the admins won't approve the game until it has 3 screenshots. For more submission rules, please see: Game and Review Submission Rules

1. Log in to RMN
2. Go to Account > Manage Games and find your game
- If you can't find your game, or your game hasn't been accepted yet, check the Submissions page for your game submission.
3. Select the game you wish to update
4. Go to the Images tab
5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'Add Image' button
6. Click Choose and find your awesome screenshot (probably in My Pictures) and select it
7. Click 'Submit' button
8. You should see a message like:
"Your game image has been added successfully!"
9. Edit the image to enter the Title of the image (ie- The Direstone Castle of Doom).

Voila! You've just created and submitted a screenshot! Now it's in the Admins' court (and you know those guys are lazy jerks).
haha, WOW...

So thats how you do it?? I had no clue... Jk...

So on average, how many bad submissions do you get for screen shots?
Were there THAT many people who didn't know this?

I too would like to hear how many bad submissions you get.

You really really don't want to know. It will destroy your faith in mankind. (Probably average 10-15 a week).

Wow, thats horriable, for something thats just common sense
Wow now don't have to use those stupid screenshot programs...
What exactly do the 3 screenshots have to include? Reply quickly please because I really have to get a demo out ;D
They should contain gameplay shots. A title is okay, but no one cares about that, so I suggest something else.

Edit: To clarify, I suggest at least three screenshots of gameplay along with a title screen if you have one.

Do remember that you can submit as many screenshots as you want, however.
Thanks, I was just taking screenshots of maps before ::) Is this ok?
First screenshot: Picture of character walking through desert.
Second screenshot: Picture of funny conversation.
Third Screenshot: Picture of battle.
Sorry to be the annoying noob, (and I should proally search for a different thread) but how do you submit a demo/game? Also, how to make and submit a video?
Here's what you need for a demo to be accepted:

To submit a video, you must first upload it to a free online video hosting service (I heard some little one called youstoobe or something opened not to long ago) and then go to the Video tab of your game submission, click Add Video and provide the link to your online vid. Easy peasy.

Nooooooo! we're being attacked by a troll! I'll stall him here, you guys equip your +55 Troll Damage Swords.

But seriously, he's either doing this on purpose, or he has an I.Q. of two.

Paint is the obvious one as is Irfanview if you have that.
okies problem, I start up my game in a mini window, pull paint up. I did the steps you have listed. But when I hit ALT - PRT SC or Print Screen, nothing happens...Then I go into Paint and hit CTRL V and nothing happens there either...am I missing something?

I use Vista so I dont know if it will work or not......
