With the release of the sequel to Sonic Riders called Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, people are now skeptical about Sega's Blue Hedgehog. Well they've been skeptical for a long time. Now a new game is coming to the Wii. I know you can't handle another Sonic and the Secret Rings.But fear not Sega has gone back to their roots sort of and has thought up this great idea. Like their other title such as Sonic Rivals and Rush. This new Sonic game has returned to a 2-D style mixed with 3-D style as well and a fishhook camera. Do you think this will bring Sega out of the dark ages or even kill Sonic even more?

Personally, I don't really care. Sonic was never really my forte, I was always a Mario kid. I hope it does well, but either way I don't think I will get it.

Yeah, i officially think sonic is dead. I haven't played a good sonic game in ages and this looks no different. I will probably see what others think first before i even consider getting this.

Im probably gonna rent it, I grew up on sonic being that it was the first VG i played, I will have to at least check it out

It all went downhill after they took the ability to play with your Chao out of the game. I freakin' rocked at karate ;D But seriously, that was something that made Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for the GC super amazing. Iono why, but it was so simple and entertaining. I'm pretty sure Sonic is in a hole that he's not getting back out of.

The ramp is one thing, but I think it's the background that kills the deal for me. I think this is the problem. It's too realistic compared to the 16-bit Sonic days. Oh, and where are the enemies and rings? In the Genesis days, there'd be at least one enemy, if not two, at that location, and rings would round the ramp.
It just doesn't have that Genesis feel. Then add the fact that most recent Sonic games either don't allow him to be fast, or fill the area with pits, or worse, keep him on rails, and it's easy to see why Sonic hasn't had a hit since 1999. In fact, I think that's why the handhelds have fared better in recent years.
Before Sonic Adventure, handhelds were worst and consoles were best, Sonic-wise.
During the Sonic Adventure years, they were both mediocre.
And now, consoles are worst and handhelds are best, as the DS has a 32-bit style that Sonic mostly skipped. Still nothing compared to the pre-Sonic Adventure days.
And this is before certain annoying characters were added. Rouge the Bat? Big the Cat? Shadow the Evil Hedgehog? And let's not forget the Robotnik/Eggman change.

Sonic Heroes-->Present Bad very bad. Sonic and teh Secret Rings made me want to gauge my eyes out Shadow the Hedgehog was bearable though

The trailer actually looks like a bloody good time.

-New promising sonic game comes out
-Oldschool sonic fans have high hopes
-Sonic game is released
-Oldschool fans vow never to be tricked ever again, and never buy a sonic game anymore
Rinse repeat.

I got screwed into buying Sonic and the Secret Rings, I'm not buying another Sonic game until I see good reviews
A good indication that a game series has jumped the shark is when the game names go Xtreme.
