Let's start a discussion on the Dragon Quest games in here. What are your thoughts on the games? Do you like/dislike them?

I don't mind any of the Dragon Quest games, i like them as much as i do the final fantasy series. Dragon Quest 8 would have to be my favourite.
5 is my favourite, followed by 3 and then 7. Overall I like them a lot better than Final Fantasy games, but I like FF VI and Tactics more than most Dragon Quest games.

I've only played a bit of 8 and while it seemed quite good, it seemed too... Final Fantasy-ish to me. I didn't get that far, and the massive cleavage of one of the characters made me feel like a loser while playing it and hope that no one would walk in while I was playing it.

I've never played an English version of 5, and I'd like to. I'll probably buy 6 in Japanese for DS when it comes out on July 17th.

Right on, 5 is my favourite too. Theres actually an english patch released for it, really great game. Dragon Quest 3 is also another favourite of mine, I played it on the GBC actually, wish there was a translated SNES version. And lastly Dragon Quest 8 is pretty awesome, though I do agree Jessica prevents me from playing the game for perverted reasons (they even gave her a bunny suit goddamn).

Though above these, I especially love the Dragon Quest Monster series, at least the GBC ones, haven't gotten around to playing Caravan Heart (was translated recently btw). And yes Healer is probably my most favourite monster, because it really rocks early on in DQM1+2 not to mention it looks badass.
Ha ha. I guess I'll have to follow the trend that you people have started! I also like Dragon Quest V the most out of the ones I have played (Which are 1-6, and 8 ). But I also like DQ 2 and 4, too.

I'll be gettin' both Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI when they are released for the DS.
I've only ever played I, II, III, and IV. (NES FTW).

I've never wrapped II, but wrapped III, IV, and I several times. Did you know that DQI has multiple endings?
Isn't it only one where you save the princess, and another if you don't? Or does it have a few more?
DQ I endings!

1. You can join the Dragonlord, if you say YES to his question "Join me" - the game just kinda ends.

2. You say NO and have epic battle with the Dragonlord.

DQ/W IV is one of my personal favorite RPGs! I have DQ 1 and IV, but I've played all of the NES DQ's and DQ VIII.

And no I never knew that DQ 1 had multiple endings! Did you know about the naming cheat for the NES version? Not sure about the GB.

I haven't played 5,6,7. Just 1,2,3,4,8.

Honestly I enjoyed 3 and 4 the most. The party system in 4 was awesomeness. The class system in 3 was revolutionary. Couple of RPG gems. 8 is a really neat game, but sheesh, they sure don't let you customize your people anymore. Even though I wouldn't change anything about jessica's breasts.

Well there were changeable weapons, outfits for jessica, an interesting character skill customization after every level, and that awesome alchemy mixer thing.

EDIT: Also wanted to add that DQ8 had the best voice acting in any RPG ever. COR BLIMEY!
The only proper Dragon Quest game I've ever played long enough to judge would be VIII, which was actually pretty great. Lots of hidden stuff, difficult bosses, a graphical style that still doesn't appear dated, and some of the best enemy design I've ever seen in an RPG. i.e. the imps that attempt to cast high-level spells at you, but fall over because they don't have enough MP.

The Dragon Quest Monsters series is also definitely worth playing. The first was decent and the second was even better, but for some reason Joker doesn't seem as good--it feels like more of a cash-in product than an entry in the series. I'm really not sure why it feels that way, because practically every change it made to the series was a change for the better, like the scouting and the new skill system. But...
Yeah DQM Joker was a serious let down, it wasn't BAD, but it really didn't surpass DQ1+2 nor did it gain an equal greatness. I'm still probably going to beat it though. Here's hoping that Level 5 makes DQM3 (or w/e is the next one).
Yeah VIII was always my favourite but i never finished dragon quest 1. Never knew it had a multiple ending though.

I am amazingly pumped for DQ 4-6 to be released here on the DS.

I don't know guys Joker is my favorite handheld game ever.
I really don't like the first-person battle view, though.

haha. How could you say something like that Alex?
I've only played "Journey of the Cursed King" = 8? Huge interesting world, plenty of stuff to do, great difficulty curve, yeah a great game but I wouldn't go as far to say it's a series I'm fond of, "Joker" and "Swords" don't interest me. I still to this day haven't completed it, I will one day. I Like the fact that you were a silent protagonist, stopped all those cheesy lines getting through.
