CloseHoi! Very long time no see folks! I'm heavily considering getting back into spriting yet again, and at the very least try to finish this sprite up above. However, motivation is a real killer, and I'm not sure how to work it up to finish it. I mean...the sprite is pretty close to being finished (in terms of raw outlines), and I wouldn't imagine that doing the fix-ups would take too long, but...I don't know, I just don't FEEL like working on it. Despite me not doing much else (all I've done lately is work on my LPs. And that's it, bar some FFWiki work. I haven't even touched my RPG Maker game outside of some fixes). Anyone have any suggestion for motivation right now? I just want to get closure on this sprite since I was making it for a DA buddy of mine, but arrrrgh!!! >_<
On top of that, I KINDA want to try another sprite but...I don't know if I will. T-T

Hey xenomic! Nice to see you spriting!! I used to go by the name Orange00, if you remember me.. sorry I sorta dissappeared even though I was doing some spriting for ya :S
Anyways I like your work here. If you need tips on how to finish that one sprite, I recommend just drawing it real fast and not thinking about it too much. You can always fix pixels here and there afterwards. Once you've got it closer to finished, you see how cool it's gonna be with just a little more effort and that should boost your motivation for sure!

Howdy! Been a long time! Normally, I wouldn't bump this thread without showing SOMETHING, but...well, I haven't touched anything since that very last sprite. I'm thinking about once again getting into spriting (I know I said this 3 months ago too, though the constant BSoDs I was having kinda put a damper on that. Thankfully, I got a new HDD and RAM so that's no longer an issue), and am thinking of picking Nala back up, since I would like to finish that for Alan. All that I really need left to do for rough drafting is that arm, which was one of the big things that kept me from finishing it (didn't know what pose to go with and didn't have any good references to work with). I also need to fix up other things here and there, such as the pants (the primary thing there), and some other things here and there. But once I get that arm down, then I should be able to finish the rest of the sprite. I hope. I might also try to finish Lenna since she was halfway done with the rough draft too (though same issues as before. Didn't know what to do with poses and positioning, and just lost motivation afterwards).

So, since I'm sooooo bored and don't want to work on wiki, nor have any idea on what to do for Touhou Fantasy (and can't stream because streaming wants to lock up my computer it feels like? I haven't messed with the settings in OBS Studio too much so I'm not sure if the bitrate is too high or something else or CPU is going bad or what), so I decided to attempt a bit more spriting for Nala. I want to at least finish her before I do anything else. Lenna MIGHT be next, and then...I don't know! I may want to attempt to try someone...interesting I guess?
Big shoutout to Graphicus for pointing some things out to me (though there's obviously some things not fixed up yet like the legs/pants.) and...I forget who helped with some other things over on RPGMaker.net (which Graphicus was ALSO going to show me but I found the references before he did it up lol). I at least got that arm going (thanks to Lilica's sprite. I actually found a freaking arm sprite to help with that! I was going to have her arm bend outwards but decided to just go with this arm), so now I just need to do the hand which is going to be the hard part (since I want her to be holding her baton in that hand, but...well, I don't know of any sprites that'll help me with that. Any FEMALE sprites anyways, since Sol definitely isn't helping (he holds his sword in his other hand anyways) and...well, yeah!). I also adjusted face and torso a bit more so...hopefully that's better there? ^^; I put a blue outline on her clothes too to help tell where the hell things were.

Spriting has never looked more tedious, frightening and patience warranting as with this thread ^^; I give kudos to you in that I'm not sure how I'd begin to start something like this, but it's impressive to see someone working with realistic proportions. Is the size you post the size of the sheet you use?

That's art in general, or really, that could be said about just about anything in reality lol.
Yes. I always make my sheet larger than necessary in the event that I need more than what I'm using, especially if I decide to have references on it too like how I have May side-by-side with Nala here.

Haha, possibly, but usually only new things are that way for me. Eventually, it becomes enjoyable and/or "going through the motions" depending.
Ah, I see. I was wondering. And true, probably one of the first times seeing references in the same sheet too, though you are just showing the process. I haven't had a chance to read all through your posts, but you're putting together a 2D fighter of your own?

Nah. I'm doing this as a gift for a DA buddy of mine. It was meant to have been done a year ago, but lack of motivation and all that jazz hue. Plus I couldn't find the references I wanted for that dumb arm. >_< I just do spriting for no real reason honestly.

Of all the sprites I can remember in mind, I can't remember seeing an arm that would fit with what you're looking for either; it's all males. Even if this is for fun, you're really good at it. Going for this kind of spriting is bound present some challenges ^^

Aye. Even a male would suffice at this point though, as long as I can get a good look at a hand grasping a weapon like a pole or rod or something like that. I can only think of Rolento right now, but I don't know if he ever has his arm/hand in enough of a position like Nala's that I want??

I take it since you already pulled a Guilty Gear character, Venom (perfect candidate) didn't cut it? There is Billy Cane from King of Fighers, and Eagle from Street Fighter, but might not be the position you're looking for. There are other fighters like Aquapalooza (or something like that) out there, but I'm not familiar with the characters to know.

Actually, I forgot about Venom lol. I may have to take a look at his sprites, but don't know how useful his well be. Only way to know is to check. Also didn't think of Billy and Eagle for some reason, huh. Billy also doesn't wear gloves too, so he might be very helpful in that regards.

You forgot Venom....for shame lol! Well, least those give you some places to look into Hopefully he has frames of animation you can pick through and check, but if you're looking for non-gloves, Billy would be your best bet, but I believe he holds pole with both hands, so might be hard to nail angle your looking for.

Yeah, will have to definitely give them all a look. I'm sure there's some Samurai Showdown characters I could take a look at too, since handles of weapons can work well too as references (though everyone seems to have gloves of sorts in that series).

Ah, I knew there was one I was forgetting! Samurai Showdown is another good series and should be able to find something in that. I'll see if I can find or remember anymore.
