SAM'S REVIEW THREAD

Posts

Pages: 1
So, within the next two weeks I'll have a nice new microphone coming through the post and I want to make some video reviews of RPG Maker and other indie games. If your game needs some love, or if you'd like to nominate someone else's game, let me know! I'll put a list together and try to work on a first come first served basis, but anything that I'm really interested in/ topical event or award games may jump the queue!

The List

Completed

Queued
Demonic Tutor
Phantom Legacy (Redux)
Final Fantasy Blackmoon Prophecy
Infection
Seraphic Blue
Sacred Earth: Memory
War On Christmas
Do you have a youtube channel or something that we can check out?
Would you be interested in reviewing my game by any chance?

It's still a beta (and I do need to testrun through a dungeon before having anyone do it right now), but it's 50% done with roughly 30-50 hours of gameplay right now. If you do decide to do it, do let me know first so that I can fill you in on any details or questions that you may have. For instance, the music you would not have to get all of (just the Vanilla Pack music) unless you wanted all of the music. ^^;
@Xenomic: Your download link goes to a MediaFire with a bunch of folders and patches and stuff. What am I looking for in here?

@Kory_Toombs: Added to the list =)

Also added a couple of games I've seen around and have an interest in.
The only things you need:

Most recent update patch (I still need to upload the updated version of this, as a map got changed and I need to make sure events aren't broken and tiles aren't broken and all that)

In the Touhou Music folder, if you want to go with bare minimum music, get just the Vanilla Music rars. If you want all music, get the Vanilla Music rars AND Expansion music. Also make sure to get the songs in the Touhou Fantasy Missing Songs folder.

That's it really. I'll let you know though whenever I get the update patch uploaded first though.
Most people just package their game in a ZIP or RAR archive so that they don't confuse their potential audience, trust me, a lot of people going to that page will likely leave empty handed as it is. You need a single "This is obviously what you need" file.

I get there's optional music so might even be worth putting two ZIP or RAR archives up clearly labelled "Light" and "Full"or something.

Could you check out my game Infection? I recently cut it down to completion. Infection
I know, I've heard that enough lol. I can't go any higher than 200 MB per rar though. The latest update patch is generally what is always the latest version (though maybe I shouldn't say "update patch" and instead" version X.XX" or whatever...).
Hey Sam, would you be interested in playing the game that I'm translating, Seraphic Blue? It's not done yet, but it has pretty decent length and it would be great to see this game get video reviews and more exposure :)

@Xenomic: If you're struggling to get your RARs under 200MB, how big is your game overall?

@Eplipswich: Added to the list
Without the extended music, it's roughly...one second, lemme check my Mediafire.

Game itself: 3 MB
Vanilla Music pack: 539 MB
Extended Music pack: 177 MB

I know, I know. Too much music. I'm aware of this, and I'm trying to figure out how best to reduce it/move more into the Extended Music Pack itself. It's a bit...troublesome to say the least. >__>

If the music is from a selection of certain games, there's bound to be midis of this music somewhere, which could easily shave 539 MB down to like 5 MB. It's an RPG Maker 2k3 game, one of many, and I'm not sure it demands an orchestra.
Depends if the midis fit with the mood of where I have each song. Mostly remixes found on YouTube/Nicovideo that worked well for what I needed. No MIDI files for any of these either unfortunately...
Xenomic, have you tried converting the MP3 files to OGG files? OGGs have about the same sound quality as MP3s, but tend to have a smaller file size than MP3s.

EDIT: And yeah, I agree with Skie that that's a hell lot of music files. Try to cut out all those that are seriously unnecessary. Optimization is a key aspect when it comes to post-production of game design. (And really, I think it should be that your Extended Music Pack is bigger than the Vanilla Music Pack and not the other way round...)
Wow. That's a lot of music. I'm not even sure if that much is even necessary. I'm wholly convinced that there's a lot of unecessary fluff in there. Touhou does have a veritable mountain of music, both official and doujin. Are you using duplicate themes? Regular and orchestral versions of the same themes? Battle and field versions of the same themes? In any of those scenarios, you can probably get rid of one or the other and cut down. You can also probably just reuse some general themes for in between areas that's not some important dungeon or other location.

Annnnnnnyway, to the point of this thread; I suppose I wouldn't mind a review of Sacred Earth: Memory. If and when you can.

Thank you, sir. :D the game isn't too long, an hour an a half at most.
In case you're looking for something holiday themed I got a game for you:
War on Christmas
Only ~45min playthrough time for each faction, so like ~90min total, so its a quick one.

Needs some love too, right now the download/view rate is horrible. ( ; _ ; )
Updated the list. According to the internet, my microphone has cleared customs and should be with me by Tuesday and I can start actually recording stuff.
