GOOD PS3 J-RPGS?

In my urge to get FFXHD I finally bought a PS3 -- just for it.*u*
There are a few cool releases coming, such as FF Agito and P5 coming to the PS3 but guys, what else should I get?
I weally have a preference over random-battle filled JRPGs :D

I'm totes getting SO4 and FFXIII, too.
Sure. You want a straight list, right? Some off the top of my head.

-Star Ocean 4 (you might want to play it on mute)
-Lightning Returns
-Tales of Hearts
-Tales of Xillia
-Resonance of Fate
-Valkyria Chronicles
-Infinite Undiscovery

Any good PSX/2 titles you can get from the PS shop. Honestly, PS3 didn't have much in the way of good RPGs, sadly - not compared to the older systems. If P4 is on it, get that. It's quite good. Fallout 3 and Skyrim, too, though they aren't jRPGs. Uh, yeah, Feld mentioned the most decent ones. Oh! Tales of Xillia 2 is out - not too sure if it's PS3 or 4 but I think it's both.

(I really hate that they didn't include backward compatibility. What a shit thing to do.)
Depends on if you mean PS3 exclusives or also those that are available for XBox360.

If it's the latter I think the best ones are Star Ocean 4 and Eternal Sonata. Can't agree with Liberty, those two are better than any RPG I played on PS2.

-Infinite Undiscovery

I think that one is XBox360 exclusive.

Grandia for PSone

Breath of Fire IV for PSone

All of the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games are available now. I recommend all of them, but speaking objectively, SMT Nocturne and Persona 3 are the ones to play. I like the Raidou duology a lot, but they're both very clunky.
Nah, I already own a PS2 and a PS1 and trust me, I already played pretty much all of the ps1-2 classics. But those ps3 games sound reasonably good, thanks for the tips!
I played the demo of Lightning Returns and I LOVED it, btw
It's so beautiful, fast and fun! Didn't grasp much of the stat mechanics and stuff, though.

But yeah, and the tales series has yet to put a spell on me... I find their games while fun game-play wise, dull and boring... especially considering that in terms of battle system Star Ocean does it so much better ;-;

But I didn't play many of them and the trailers for those ps3 tales games look good.

i'll start by getting the FFXIII Trilogy. And perhaps Disgaea 4, if it's out. Then maybe Resonance, since i'm such a Tri-Ace nerd...

hmm

I've got to mention NieR! It's a bit of an oddball though.

In that case, I still agree with the Tales of Graces recommendation. It is globally acknowledged as having the best battle system of the whole series. Don't expect an interesting story, though. It's pretty funny, however (especially the victory quotes).

I still suggest Star Ocean 4 and Eternal Sonata before it.
Nier is stellar. Resonance is one of Tri-Ace's best titles, in my opinion anyway.
Star Ocean 4 is way too fucking weird for me to take seriously. I honestly feel like I'm watching kiddie porn or some shit when I see even Youtube videos of it. Play that shit on mute.
Pff, haters. Star Ocean 4 is epic! It's a great parody and has the greatest gameplay and dungeon design I've ever seen with a great sense of exploration. You just did the mistake to take the story too seriously.

If you play on mute you miss all the funny scenes! Like all the video sequences with Welch. Never laughed that much before.
What are they parodying? I don't think their writers are that clever. It's hard to tell when their output is fairly heavy on skeeze. A lot of the writing in Resonance of Fate bothered me.

Battling in Star Ocean 4 is a lot of fun, it's fast paced, decent AI and blind siding enemies is really satisfying. It's worth it for that. Otherwise Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch was probably the best RPG on the PS3.

I guess I'm just not into that kind of Japanese humor. Star Ocean 2 was the most 'on the level' Star Ocean out of the series. Ever since then they got weirder and weirder.

Anyways, Yakuza 3 and 4 are fun but they do suffer from being sequels and while playing 1&2 aren't required it does help establish the settings and characters (mainly Kiryu). It can make the start of 3 a drag if it wasn't what 1&2 were building up to. They're still fun games though and I got into the series with 3 so anything's possible!
