HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT ONLY ONE GENDER AS PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

This is why I prefer fantasy settings. You can just build a less segregated world.

But I think even kids know better than not to believe everything they see...
I dunno... Does this look like candy to you?

I'm not prepared to give kids the benefit of the doubt.

Skyrim is open world! It can't be beaten by a fantasy RPG!
Both are good for different reasons, this I agree!
I've never played Skyrim. I'm waiting until I've finished FFXIII and Star Ocean: The Final Hope. It is true though, for the major departure from the typical Final Fantasy game, FFX-2 was a lot of awesome. It was different, unexpected, and introduced the player to different styles. It had a music mechanic that, mixed with the RPG elements, reminded me a little of Ephemeral Fantasia.
X-2 was really goofy, to the point where it could get hard to enjoy, but it had by far the best battle system of the PS2 Final Fantasies. The Sagaist approach it had to its progression was a neat idea as well.

Potato Faces>Fus Ruh Doh?
Better story, worldbuilding, and mechanics help a lot as well.
Doesn't it really depend on what you want from a game?
Skyrim isn't that great a game, but you canwaste put a shitload of time into it. Many like that, makes for much playtime for their money.
I don't like it starting with things like the art-style, so yeah .. I'd still waste time with it, but I don't like it.
As for the actually discussion .. man, I couldn't read through it all, but this
There's a feminism-block implanted by media, friends, and previous discussion.
It's like math or physics for most people. Only mention the term, and they will shiver in disgust.
People think that there's gotta be a certain way such topics will be treated under "feminismn", and while they still contribute valid points, they often unnecessarily defend others they think would be attacked by "over-feminists".
Related is that you usually focus on either male or female stereotypes .. and automatically switch to one another, because people tend to think that you'd ignore what you aren't talking about right now.
This is bad discussion, because it's usually used to dismiss points, which it doesn't. It introduces a new side and new topics, but it doesn't dismiss a thing - which will then be made out by focusing on the gender you had in mind previously - which then inflames the same reaction.
If you wanted to bring in the other gender neutrally, all would be fine.
.. if it ends up as this "Because your concerns about representation of women in games are baseless trolling?" (sorry pal).. especially while claiming that representation of men is shitty and could need some more thought .. then that's quite agitating.
.. + the general mindset in discussions that you need to "win", that you actually need to change opinions to have done anything. Views and background-information can change without affecting your opinion and you won't change your outlook in 5 minutes even if you want and intend to do so.
Bare a few exceptions this went fairly well. I'm glad to see so much good input.

author=NeverSilentI honestly just don't understand why these feminism-related discussions seem to become such a big issue every time. Not only have many of the comments on the respective threads been insightful and a good amount of the people actually took each other's arguments seriously, but there was also a recognizable pattern which often appears in these kinds of discussion: Basically, you all want the same thing.
You all agree that the misrepresentation of women in games, and, more generally, any kind of discrimination is bad and needs to be stopped. Good.
Now, the only thing you keep fighting over is how to tackle those issues or, just as often, who is qualified to do so.
This is an understandable, but unnecessary conflict. Why should we fight so much over small differences that we forget all the big things that unite us? You all are people who are open to reason, so please remind yourselves of what it is you actually really want to achieve. No good will ever come from hating and insulting people who, in fact, are on your side.
