RMNVERSE BATTLEDOME 5 - COMPLETE!

Posts

Steven Seagal IS an actual martial artist, and I don't know why you are bashing him! Those fight scenes were far more realistic that most of that highly choreographed stuff - Seagal was brutal, efficient, precise, and used his (usually) size and power advantage effectively. He killed or incapacitated his foes as fast as possible, just like YOU should do in a real fight.

Urrrgh, I didn't anticipate you burning my butt

But I'm sure the tracking sensors allow me to predict movement, not just know where you are. Gotta aim where you're going to be! Also, now it's a 50/50 2 votes each.

*Crosses legs, arms, hands, fingers, feet, toes, eyes*

I have a tracking sensor too, though... Yeah I think the fight between us could feasibly go both ways, which is why the votes haven't been overwhelmingly favoring one or the other (though now you are ahead by 1 point!)

And I wouldn't bash him if he wasn't such an arrogant dick where he doesn't have room to be. Simple truth of the matter is, his movies are choreographed, too. The fight scenes are designed by people WHO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING. Whereas IRL, in tournament, Steven Seagal used to get up in front people his own size, used fighting techniques intended for facing opponents that were a foot shorter than him and then promptly got his ass kicked. He got picked up by Hollywood casting agent while he was on the tournament scene because he looked real flashy, not because he was a winner in fighting.

Real life: Steven Seagal tells a lot of bullshit stories about his life (like taking on the Yakuza), brags about being able to turn Chuck Norris into a grease stain (have you ever actually seen him fight Norris? Because he hasn't. Bruce Lee refused to fight Norris outside of a choreographed movie script because losing would have meant losing his Hollywood title as World's Best Martial Artist.), all while coming from a tournament background in which he has too few wins and too many loses to have any bragging rights.

I will concede that Seagal is very good with weapons forms (of course, as my old St. Louis Black Belt Association instructor used to say, "If you need to pick up a stick, you're already in trouble). That makes him a real martial artist, okay. I'd just have a lot more respect for him if he didn't shout so much bullshit, is all.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

What's the point of being a martial artist if you can't shout bullshit?

Well played, sir.

There's one thing I have to remind myself about movies: forget reality. Meaning that the short, excitable, scientologist, placenta-eating, hobbit named Tom Cruise can still be an ace pilot, or a dreaming billionaire, or a super spy.
Stephen Seagal is a known woman abuser. Hit his wife, iirc. He might even be a shit fighter. But he sure makes a great b-movie action hero.
He can portray a good fighter.
Obviously I made my robot like a joke (mostly because I wanted to avoid the "my robot is ultra powerful, he travels throughout time and can destroy entire planets") but I will try to make a better one for the next Battledome, good luck to everyone

El_WaKa, for what it's worth, I thoroughly enjoyed your robot, and took him 100% seriously. The speed/size factor really needed to be leaned on... It was like my only winning point. I look forward to seeing what you can come up with in the future!

So because I am at work all day despite having nothing to do (I finished my meager tasklist earlier this week and wasn't assigned any new tasks for today, and nearly everyone else was on their EDO or sick today), and because I don't have access to RMN's code base nor any other game engines, I decided to try coding up a Battledome application in Java.

My end goal is to create a MyBrute clone ( www.mybrute.com ), where two Battle Robots square off against each other and fight using their basic AI until one or the other is defeated. I built the most skeleton of frameworks today (as you can see in the screenshot). I hope to build out the logic and balancing of the game in Java during downtimes at work, and once that's hammered out, work at making a game out of it (perhaps by making a Java webapp out of it and host it on http://herosrealm.net where you guys could log into it and make battlers and duke it out and have tournaments and whatnot), or maybe trying out Unity or HTML5 or something, or making a standalone single player style game. Who knows?

Ratty524 and Seiromem's strategies both seem to anticipate the other's strategy and attempt to nullify it, that worked out really interestingly. In the end I voted for Ratty, because I think he can probably dodge the whips, what with having almost 7x the agility that Seiromem has.

I think a week of voting time was a bit excessive, however the next few rounds will have less and less to vote for, so I'll go back to 3 days. Maybe 4.

Excessive? I'm just now getting time to vote!

Would anyone be opposed to opening the polls to a wider audience next time? I don't plan on it this time, but it might be interesting as an experiment to invite off-siters to vote. May even net RMN some members, who knows! We sure have cool events here.
By all means, yes. The more voters, the merrier. I was kind of expecting there to be more than a dozen voters in this tournament...so yeah, let's invite more for the next time.

If you invite off-siters, we probably need a couple BOLD ALL-CAPS REMINDERS that people should not vote based on art, and should not just vote for their friends without considering the stats and strategies, but maybe I'm too pessimistic about that :P
I think that's a good idea! Especially because in this moment, I could use the help of more voters in my battle... :(

I agree, entirely. Visuals are just to help the imagination, not a point in favourite of better artists. I've always stood by this, and try to promote it.

I cannot believe enough people voted for Kentona out of pure pity that he actually won. I will have my revenge, Kentona. You have not heard the last of Class 4-2 of the West Melonvalley 3rd District Elementary School!

Well, looks like you defeated me, TangledLion. Congratulations!
Good luck to all the winners in the next round!
