Hmm, yeah. I'd like to avoid that just because I'm impatient and unnecessary teleporting irks me, but hopefully when we make the new tileset, we can figure something out.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

@BadLuck: Maybe something like this would make it clearer that it's an entire second floor? This is how FF7 does it anyway.

Made a small platformer thing in rm2k3 last night
adorable. love the landing animation and the background in particular. those pillars add a ton of atmosphere and don't clash with the foreground like we see in some platformers.
edit: I do agree with LockeZ that the fall speed should be sped up (by 25 percent or so). at the current speed the controls would probably feel a little clunky after a while. if you're going to make this into a full game, you might want to work on the wall tiles a bit more - they're kinda bland. the skeletons in the background should probably be spread out a bit more (the areas to the left and right of the pit pillars are lonely!). but man, it's neat as hell!
It seems to me it's a platformer puzzle like Donkey Kong Gameboy rather than an actual platform game. I don't think the fall speed needs to be sped up if that's the case.

I mean, it had fuckin' better be a puzzle game, since it has tile-based movement. You can't make a platformer like that.

Tried to make it faster but the next step in the Movement Speed is really fast and it's kinda hard to stop at the right tile at times. (For some reason the gif got a bit speed up so it's not as fast in the game)
Anyway, once I made a couple of rooms I'll play test and check what speed works best.
Here's the spells you will have at your disposal.
The shooting orb will mainly be used to trigger switches at a distance, maybe temporary stun enemies if there will be any.
The launch/jump spell is mainly used for traversal and will be the last spell you receive. And yeah, that one needs to be way faster.

Is the tint okay? I didn't want it too yellow but I did want to give the feel of sand all over. Also, fucking edits are killing me man. orz

I think the tint looks fine, although I'm also on record as thinking "brown is the color of real" is a fantastic trend in video game graphics.
That ground tile is tiling pretty hard though. It'd look better if you had four very similar ground tiles and tiled it 2x2 instead of 1x1, since it covers such large swaths of the map.
