That's the default RTP. I'll see what I can do about breaking the tile up a bit though. o/

I'm late to the party but since this is my favorite 2k3 game I have to know - are you remaking/finishing this?

like ara fell, yup.

edit: libby/lockez, i agree with lockez but if you can't manage a 2x2 i think you could desaturate the floor some and take the eye focus away from it. the tint might be a bit extreme if you do that though.
Yep! And that's flattering! I didn't know (or don't remember) that it was your favorite.

Considering how much love I poured into R3P and how little attention it got back in the day, I was always very despondent about it. It's always cool to be reminded that some people did actually care about it; particularly people that have had success in the industry themselves!

the only thing i didn't like about r3p despite it almost being my favorite 2k3 game as well (leo & leah is my favorite, and unity's space ship tsukuru 30000 or w/e it's called is now second place) is that i had to play the same damn dungeon again from starlancer six.

it was bad there. it was still long and annoying the second time qq

not that this is the badluck commentary thread, but if you are not against jrpgs any more (since i only see you playing 4x, not that i blame you), maybe give tales of berseria a shot? it might help your designs of antiheroes and how they interact with religion.
I'll give it a look!

And don't worry, I'm redesigning most of the dungeons from scratch. :<

I'm having trouble with the 2-tile thing so I figured I'd try the desaturation option to see if it worked. Also tried a general recolour. I'm not sure which I like better. On the one hand the grey tile does jump out a little more, whilst the yellow one fades out (due to the tint, which I could just remove if I wanted, or tone down a bit). On the other hand I want to keep the idea of a sandstone town where possible.

(I am still working on the 2-tile idea and I'm going to be recolouring the cobblestone paths to more sandstone colour. I've half a mind to just use the cobblestone recolour for the whole thing instead, but so many games use it and I wanted this one to be a bit different.)

Well if the people there are filthy rich, they could have granite paths. (We're talking monumentally wealthy tho, some Pharoah put granite slabs on the lower part of his pyramid and almost bankrupted the project, heh.)

Hmm, an interesting if not a pain to make, have someone (say maybe the player if they choose the jerk option) casts Rain. The rain causes the sandstone to weaken and disintegrate. Then you change tiles to a ruined sandstone one, and make every npc there wanna lynch ya. Also like -100 to reputation, +5 Renegade.

Libby, the slight desaturation thing actually looks a bit realistic if its daytime. Suns bright yo. So, as long as you don't have a night bit, then it'd be fine and you wouldn't need to re-sprite thing. Oh! Or you could just have it not the 'typical yellow' sandstone. There is browns, reds, and greys colours. And if there is volcanic activity it could even be blackish. Your text to link here... Is a good pic of a blended sandstone with striations. *Rock-hound mode off.*
Not sure why you think night would be an issue at all?

Ah, the sandstone wouldn't look as yellow at night. The pic doesn't look bad though, so I guess you're golden.
Well, I mean, it's -night-. It shouldn't look as yellow being as the yellow things don't look yellow at night anyway. XD

I thought you were meaning that it would be a bit too dark or something, though. It's only dark if you make it dark~ ;p
Liberty, I enjoy that map very much. I personally love desert towns in games! I can't wait to see what it looks like populated; I imagine having plenty of NPC's in the area will help mask the repeating tiles concern that LockeZ had earlier.

I've got a few new screenshots today from a large autumn forest I designed. (I forgot how annoying forest canopies are to map after awhile!)

And for those interested, here's the map in full. I have a thing for very large maps, and this one is certainly no exception:

Please check out my game's page and subscribe if you like what you see!
I'm sure someone is better for nitpicking, but I'll say that's a really damn nice forest map. The tree walls are totally something I'll study a bit to see if I should use in future. Already subscribed to your game a while back too.

that...is fantastic. great job. keep it up. one of the best uses of canopies I've seen. my type of mapping.

reminds me a bit of tarm ruins from oracle of seasons.

I take it you're like me in that you just map a bunch of areas for fun and then make a game based on those areas.
lol, WIP, you're the first person I thought of when I wrote that.

Yeah, the intro was very well paced. The premise was digestible and presented quickly enough that I actually cared about what happened next, but not so quick that it felt like whiplash. Rare for old 2k3 games to be well paced like that and I think the lack of popularity might have been due to its departure from the much more fantastical/magical setting of Ara Fell that people were expecting.
Hmm, hopefully that won't screw up the commercial release too much, if true... Though it was at least partially that I was like "fuck it, I'm done, here." Releasing it on the same day as the infamous "Philosopher's Stone" game didn't help either...

Anyway, I really should post a screenshot instead of talking about myself so much.

Voila! Here's some concept art of how we're doing R3P's world map!

It's obviously not finished yet, but Caladium is really awesome and making all these cute little buildings and ships, so I think we'll do the whole map like this!

It seems like eventing the custom graphics out for each city is the best option, which I am super not looking forward to... :<

That is a bloody lovely world map, Luck. It really strums my nostalgia.
