In XP I think you can do that without scripting and just use a common event. I haven't used VX but the situation might be similar.
Items and magic can have common events attached to them and from there you can create an event that switches equipment.
So again I'm pretty sure its possible in XP and it might be possible in VX.

If only VX could let you bring up the equip menu through eventing.... Thanks anyway dude. You've given me another idea for a future project.
If you're using Yanfly's scripts and the battle system ( Battle Engine Melody ), it's entirely possible. I've been using it for my last two projects and it works beautifully.
