MAPS WEEKLY!

I took your advice...I hope I understood it clearly...and applied it.
nhubi, for the open gate issue I'm trying out some bars. They look okay, but I'm thinking I might try to work out something more solid. The openings over the river are barred and I love the results. For the stairs, easy fix. Just squashed them a bit and now the fit in much better. Thanks for the feedback.
Cap, I took out the unnecessary bridges and added more buildings. I agree, the flow is much better. Thanks for the feedback.
Here are the results.

The portcullis look for the river is a great addition, and they also work for the main gates since portcullis were generally employed between the gate and possible enemies to prevent ramming or fire damaging what were generally oaken/wooden doors.
The only issue I have with it is how crazy the walls are shaped. Usually walls were straight lines (I know, boring right?) because the cost of altering them was phenomenal and it gave extra room inside the walls for the city to expand outward if needed. They wouldn't have followed the lines of the town like yours does - instead leaving room to expand against the walls with a growing population that comes from safety. Once the population filled the walls, slums would be erected outside of them, where the dregs would have been sent so that proper housing could be built inside. Then after a while, if population boomed more, those slums would have been pushed out further. New walls would have been constructed forming another ring (usually lower and cheaper, built up over time as more of the city spread and the continuation of the city would keep going and going. Most cities were built on plains and flat lands for that reason).
The only time that they would have created walls so crazy is if they had to follow the natural terrain, but even then they would have either built into the cliffs or incorporated them into the design to better make their job at creation easy. If there was a bog, they would have considered that when designing the walls - a lot of time went into the design of them because they wanted both vantage points and less cost, so building on bad terrain would have been a no-go unless it enhanced the defensiveness of the walls in some way.
(For example, they wouldn't build right next to a hill that towers over the walls because it gives vantage to enemy archers. They wouldn't have built directly next to a forest because it can conceal enemies and in a fantasy world, evil fiends could lurk there. No building on beaches, bays or marshy areas because sand corrodes and moves. No building on sand - usually they dug til sandstone or hard clay instead. You get the idea.)
There's a lot of in/out-dents in your walls that make no sense - see the right wall for example: it dints in for no reason. There's no landscaping that forces it to do so and it would have been fine as a straight line. It seems you doing it just for the sake of having weirdly shaped walls.

That is some awesome helpful info Liberty. I really appreciate the input. I have to go rebuild the city now. I'll be back.
Edit: Okay here's the revamped city. (I'm sorry the Hide and Thumbnail options weren't working.)

Christian, don't overdo it. Cuz If you wanted to be historical correct, You would have to get rid of the wall at all and build something like massive fortress surrounded by slums.
So, It's time to announce another round. I decided to make this one extra. This time, it's gonna be a competition. Nothing big, just one of these humble bundle leftover steam keys i got. So, You probably have the game already.
I decided to go with Eldritch today as its devs released a new game, Neon Struct, last week. We all know that Eldritch is an enjoyable game and Neon Struct looks even better (check the trailer out, cuz that music). Perhaps I'll get my hands on some extra copies in July. Who knows?
So, How is it gonna be? Post a
Lovecraft
inspired map till next Tuesday/Wednesday.
-The time for your contest entries is up with the announcement of a new theme.
-You can vote for your favorite entry either here or via pm following seven days
-then the winner is announced.
I hope that someone feels lurked by my offering. If you already own Eldritch, there are some alternatives like Bastion or Ittle Dew.

So by Lovecraft you mean H.P Lovecraft or like valentine stuff?
If it is the first one, man I have a lot of experience with horror so this should be fairly easy.

Basically there are two settings in the books,
cosmic horror place, or early 1900s England.
If you're gonna ask me what "cosmic horror place" is... Well that depends on what book, but generally it's some big empty space filled with dread and traces of some unknown horror.
Ok thanks. I'll probably make something tomorrow, right now I gotta *falls asleep*
It moves ripoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I decided to do parallax mapping(since I need a lot of exercise). I finished it. I remembered I was supposed to do a horror map. I face palmed myself. I added blood and a ghost. Here's mine:

I decided to go for the ''1900s England'' one, though it looks a bit older.
I tried to make it as crowded as possible but it still looks empty to me. What do you think?

The ghost looks out of place...
Oh, and I won't participate this week, making a horror map is too hard for me (and I'm too lazy to download custom graphics)

You definetly should join in. I'd love to see your horror maps. Oh and you don't need to make it all custom. Just download blood and give it a try.
To be honest, I improved a lot. This was me just a couple of weeks ago:

And look at me now.
@ExtremeDevelopment
The overlay is a bit too dark, I know a lot of people with crappy monitor settings/crappy monitors won't be able to see anything (source: Every game I ever made).
I don't think it's too empty, overall it looks good.
Edit: To make it more 1900s'ish, consider lessening saturation or making the map brown/black and white (because everyone knows that irl colors didn't come until after color TV was invented).
