THE OFFICIAL ENGLISH 2K3 VERSION IS OUT!
Posts
OK... don't know where to post this so I'll post it here.
I got the official RPG Maker 2003, which I am happy for. What I am less happy is that it's apparently buggy.
Simply put, I installed the official RTP and when trying to make a new project and checking the new interface, the moment I clicked on the Battle Screen tab, I got the following error:
"A load violation of address 00000518 occured in address 00531E13 of module 'rpgmaker2003.exe'."
Note that this was through a newly created project, not one downloaded or produced using a different version from the official one.
Is there any particular reason for this kind of bug?

OK... reinstalled and the bug disappeared when creating a new project.
However, discovered that the moment I try to convert a project from the old versions to the official version, it breaks the Battle Screen tab functions.
And by breaking, I mean that literally: if I create a new project from scratch after that, the Battle Screen tab will remain broken, forcing me to reinstall the program to undo the damage.

I think that issue happens when you open an unconverted project, the battle screen tab tries to get monster and background files but can't find them.
If you want to open an old project first backup those projects to keep the original files, then import all files you used in the project, copy the new "RPG_RT.exe" and "ultimate_rt_eb.dll" from a new project and paste them into the old project to replace the old "RPG_RT.exe".
You should be able to open the battle screen tab now, if you get the error just close the program and open it again, you don't need to reinstall.
I could be wrong, though.
Or just make a new file in the editor, shift everything in folders and maps from old, ignoring ldb. Copy that internally, by going to Mass Copy and pasting inside.
Hey, I have a small question. Is there any possibility that we'd get a license to use the old 2k RTP resources. Specifically the tilesets. They seem to be the only graphic assets to not make it to 2k3, so I would imagine - since all the other 2k assets are in 2k3 - that it wouldn't take much to include them yes?. Or is it more complicated that I think?
The license, from what I read of it, was concerning mainly reverse engineering the program. Trust me, most of us won't do this, and just want DynRPG and external patches. The tilesets are kinda just pictures. I mean, it's not perfectly legal, but it's less an issue than using the old 2k or 2k3. It's a picture file.
In essence, importing from the RTP is perfectly fine, aside from being legal grey area, and probably not if you're planning on selling it.

If you're wanting to use them commercially you absolutely need a legal license or you open yourself up to not only a C&D order, but the possibility of being sued. But if you're just using for a free project it should be safe to use them.
So far there's no news for a license for them, but I do know it's been talked about by some people in the past, so it might be a possibility.

Have been using the not-so legal version of 2K3 for years. Promised myself I would buy it when it became legal.
Not disappointed.

You know... I never realized how bad the original unnofficial translation for RPG Maker 2003 was until now ; for the longest time, I thought that the 'status problem fade after X turn' feature was not working.
But with the new translation, it finally became clear that the feature wasn't that the status would automatically vanish after reaching X turn but rather that it would start using the 'X % chance of vanishing on its own' calculation after the number of turns have been reached...

I bought this, haven't booted it up yet, but it was on a half price sale so I'm like, ey' why not.
Midweek madness.
Midweek madness.
Question.
Steam updates regularly, and all. But as mentioned earlier, that's not an option.
Do I have to re-buy the non Steam version, if there are any updates?

I don't think they'd make you buy the non Steam program everytime it's updated, you probably just download the update using your license or something.
If you own the site one, when an update is pushed through just download from your client area (there should be a link to the download for you at any time) and that should be fine. I think. You'd probably be better off asking on RMW, to be honest.
does it have an option to have custom title screen or is the default start continue quit still there ?

out of the box you can easily change the titlescreen background, and change the text of Start Continue Quit to whatever, but you can't change the location of the it or remove it completely.

Looks like this is 75% off Steam right now until June 22nd. For $5 I don't think you can go wrong.
wicked.
