i like to imagine that they don't actually give shell, sazh just shoots the magic as it comes toward you and that diffuses the damage

I've started this game for a week. It was pretty good and straight forward into battle. At first I was, meh, a final fantasy game without a walk and a map? But then I played and realized it was pretty fun and balanced.
Friggin' sweet. Drew Y'shtola's relic on a random 5-mythril draw. That's two of the "big four" in about one week! Now, to decide which one to make my wanderer...
Think I'll try Stoneskin 2 for a while. I was getting 20+ summons of Sazh per day, but that number seems to have fallen off. Friend code eb9B; try it out!

i normally get big uses of my Sentinel Grimoire when the bonus battles come out and the last day of events. I assume the same will be for SS2! sazh will probably get you more uses because haste is always nice whereas ss2 is more for the hardest content... i'd judge it based on the current bonus bosses and how magic-heavy they are.
i tried really hard but got no y'sh relics. :< she and quistis are still sick BLM/SUP and WHM/SUP though, especially since i have quistis's whip and the ffxiv staff with the non-ele shared sb (not quite as good stat-wise as my Binding Rod but hey, shared SB). i did get thancred's Death Blossom though which is on my second-best light armor (behind snow's)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bard + bow equip + death blossom = thancred new party staple. sadly SB-speed Slow is not as efficient as Slowga but it's still nice to have a bard that doesn't suck and isn't a loli.
finally catching up on classic dungeons... just got Ricard, that's how behind i am

I've done nothing but FF2 first-dungeon runs for about 4 days now trying to get Josef's second RM. Probably spent close to 1000 stamina on it so far. So I have no idea how behind I am on dungeons currently!
I find it kinda funny that all the best materia is hidden behind shitty characters. gives them a reason to exist though, especially since they're all non-event.

I tend to prioritize Sazh/Red XIII over Sentinel Grimoire, but I go with whatever is available when I enter the dungeon because I'm can't be bothered to reset my RW options. The exception is if the boss is capable of coming close to one-shotting somebody due to weak gear synergy or I have some lower level guys with me. This is because Haste is a great damage-reducer because it basically allows you to kill the boss in fewer total turns, and often Shell or Protect is enough anyway... especially if the main issue is single-target physical attacks that can be soaked up by a tank. If dudes simply can't survive the blast then I'll use Sentinel Grimoire so I can stack it with a Shellga as well.
For the most part I only use mitigation RWs, with the exceptions being fights where I just don't need an RW at all and just pick whatever it throws at me by default, or battles that require certain conditions like needing a sleep, silence, or slow, etc.
I think tomorrow is another FF7 event yet again. Spent some time doing FF7 elites so I could clear those out while leveling up my FF7 party more. I basically dumped all of my mythril into Golbez as I was acquiring it and completely failed to get anything out of it--I have no idea how much I spent total. Since it ended I've been saving up and have almost 30 mythril now which I'll probably spend on FF7 because I'm actually pretty lacking in those items.
Anyway, my RW is Tifa again and right now she's pure Attack power, but I'll be switching her to FF7-synergy once the event pops. Her Water Kick hits pretty hard if you ever need some useless damage.
Keen. 50-Mythril pull netted me three 5-stsrd: Crystal Sword, Soldier Sword, and Genji Armor. It also gave me my third 4-star for Masamune, Black Garb, and Black Robe... the last two would've been very useful during the Golbez event. This means I'll have 5-stsr weapons for Cloud, Zack and Tifa... and a 4++ katana for Sephiroth going into the bonus dungeons, so damage should be great. Unfortunately I haven't got a character specific soulbreak since the Tifa event, but I can't complain with this melee lineup, which became my strongest synergy by far in this single 50 pull.

Well, I probably won't use Genji Armor outside of FF5 synergy. I have a good collection of light armors and some good bracers/hats for casters. And I sort of didn't need Genji Armor for FF5 much either, because I have a lot of 4++ stuff from FF5 that I've acquired from failed relic draws, but I certainly won't turn down a natural 5-star.
I think Shadow Flare might be a better choice than Sentinel's Guard once the FF7 bonus fights roll out, because Proud Clod can be blinded. And speaking of the FF14 bonus fights: I'm having a really hard time dealing damage. Yshtola hits for like 5k with Diaga, but everybody else has trouble breaking 2.5k damage--and that's with Thancred using a bard song to boost everybody's attack power. They're so resilient and I have no good FF14 gear because I saved mythril for Zack's banner. I really need a new Luneth RW... I used to have several but they've all changed except one. So I don't know... I might end up not mastering this one but we'll see what I can work out.
Are you using Breakdowns/Whip Kick/Wakkaballthing + Boost/Faith/Rallying Etude and getting those numbers, or are those without any sort of states?

It's using Armor and Mental Break and the bard song. My only Breakdown right now is for Magic. And yes, Wakka is my Break/down guy because I have his Status Reels ball. When that's up I do considerably more damage but it takes time to get that going in single round fights like Ifrit. Also, I didn't make Diaga... it was a reward a few events ago--I forget which. It's a great spell, though, and I suggest prioritizing its hones when you get it. Even Vivi is only hitting for about 2.5k with Comet against Ifrit++, so it's all a big pain in the ass. Really eager for the next daily tier to come out so I can reliably get 4-star orbs for -aja spells and what not.
And Proud Clod is the giant mecha you fight when you return to Midgar towards the end of FF7, just before fighting t-Virus Hojo. I don't know that the name is supposed to mean.

Well, ain't that something. My FF7 melee lineup has 360 attack power minimum, with Tifa at over 400. I will probably mop up this Zack event pretty handily. I spent yesterday's stamina getting upgrade materials and today I'll get some gil to finish some of the combining. Combining the third Black Garb, Black Robe, and Masamune Blade costs 200,000 a pop and I already dumped all of my money upgrading those 5-stars.
Mastered both + and ++ for FFXIV, then did them 4-man. Somehow managed to (barely) master Ifrit again. Thancred with Death Blossom and a 5+ Lominsan Bow wrecked shit.
Meanwhile, boss rush Schizo just bashed my brains in! I completed it but with only Tifa standing. I reallllly want those GEOs, too. Currently spending stamina on classic FFVII Elites to try to boost up Zack a bit -- I had replaced him with Balthier but I can't do that if I want to try Proudclad too. Sigh. My ONLY FF7 5* is One Winged Angel. It's sick, yeah, but I don't even have any 4*s. My RS is weak.
Maybe if I had some GEOs I could get Shellga to R2 so that I could get more GEOs ;V
