FINAL FANTASY: RECORD KEEPER
Posts
I was looking at using Edgar as well, for the same reasons. Banishing Strike, Blind Shell, Bio Blaster. Good fit and I have two sword options. Actually hard to settle on a party... I might end up running that encounter without cure magic and relying on limit breaks.
Careful if you try to go with mitigation/medica only, not because of any particular nuke but because LeBlanc has a full dispel in her weak phase similar to Barthandalus.
edit: lol FFT drops the minute that banner 5 ends. I'll have to do ~3 normal dungeons, but that's fine because orbfest stage 5 isn't that pressing.

I actually forgot about all of the gift mythril we got today, so that'll give me some breathing room in the future. I don't know what you mean by a welcome pack, but it seems weird that you'd get one on the anniversary rather than when you created your account.
Regarding Ultimate Leblanc, the trio just doesn't appear to be that threatening to me and their low HP should make the fight pretty brief. What I will probably end up doing is making my RW a Boostga of some flavor because the medal requirements and my gear options make tricky to fit Drunk Cecil; probably Lenna's if it's in the queue. One of my followers changed their RW to Wakka, so that's also an option since it'll Blind and Poison everybody. I'll probably change my mind after the ultimate is in the game data and I can see exactly what their abilities do.
This game needs to add new 4-star items to the pot. It's so rare that I can combine anything anymore.

I'm weirdly excited about doing a relic draw tonight. Maybe it's because I had to endure looking at the previous banners without any pay off, so it's been building.
Holy crap, I unlocked Gunner Yuna and her twin bee guns. She easily outflanks all my characters so far. When she's not gun's blazing, she's summoning Mist Dragon and Ultros.
I feel like Cyan will be great if I can find his sword, but I'm not holding my breath. I woupd rather raise Gilgamesh up to that level.
Is there a must-have character, besides boring Cloud etc? Are any of the older characters like Firion or Luneth worthwhile?

It kind of depends on what relics you have, but absent that variable, I consider these characters very good:
Pretty Cecil
Rosa - White mage with Support-4 and bows
Bartz
Gilgamesh
Faris - Best Support-5 for at least a few more days.
Celes - Highest RES, best default soul break.
Terra
Eiko - Great default soul break and abilities.
Balthier
Vaan
I actually don't consider Firion particularly good. He's fine but I wouldn't use him without a good unique for him. Luneth is a strong character, though, but he's lost some of his niche since Bartz was released (Spellblade that can use melee weapons that other spellblades can't).
I agree with Jude's list but would replace Rosa with Vanille for a generically useful white mage-able character. Vanille's default SB can help you pump out a bit more damage, and she is good at both BLM and WHM. I would also add Vivi and/or Ashe (your preference); they both have default SBs that raise their damage significantly.
If you don't need the bulk, and don't have a relic for her, Vivi is probably the better bet over Terra for a dedicated black mage. Terra's default SB is shit; her power is in her stats.
basically just train the ff5 cast.
edit: wait you have yuna's BSB, you don't need another white mage. scratch vanille, just train yuna ;V

Unless you use Yuna as a summoner, like I do, then you still need a white mage. I disagree on recommending Vanille over Rosa, but if you want to add a sage to the mix then that is fine, though I would snatch FuSoYa first just to get his record materia. Vivi and Ashe are good picks too. The reason I recommend Terra over them is because she's more flexible and can take a hit, though Ashe is very close.
They have a difference of 5 Mind at L65 and Vanille has her MC2 out. If you have a good mind bow (which does exist, I'll admit), Rosa's nice but I'd rather have a sage for most content. WHM 5 means extremely little in this game (although Vanille does have it).
What interests you about banner 4? I'll do a 100 gem pull with some of my leftover gems, but I'm way more interested in 5.

I kind of disagree that White-5 isn't important, but I'm probably the only person who has Holy R3. Granted, it's far, far less important than White-4. I wouldn't underestimate how important Ability Spring RMs are for new players who don't have hones yet and have a lot of dungeon content to clear, which is why I think getting FuSoYa's Moon's Grace 2 is useful. Mana/Summon Spring 2 were like the backbone of my dungeon clearing days.
Everything. Less so on Penelo's and Aeris's weapons, but I wouldn't be upset if I got those. Basically everything on the banner is either for a character I like and often use, helps fill my black mage deficiency, or has an effect I'm still missing like Faithga and Runic. I'm interested in banner 5 as well and will be doing an 11-pull on that also. The mythril reward we got the other day actually puts me about 4 shy of another 11-pull, so in theory I could go for a second FFT or SSB pull with the login bonuses, but it seems better to save it for FF12.
Really not liking my luck lately. Got jack from banner 4.

I was considering swapping out Luneth (regrettably because FF3 is my fave) with Bartz, purely for Bartz simple sprite...
Sounds like he's good.
As for Penelope, I'm on the fence if I want to use FF12 dudes right now. Maybe. It'll be a while until I can level up Bartz now. I'm fresh out of exp eggs.
Thanks for the advice, guys.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The must-have characters are Gilgamesh, at least one physical attacker who can use white magic, and whoever you have good relics for. Good relics trump everything else. Even bad relics trump almost everything else.
Ok, got Gilgamesh. Maybe I'll switch Cyan out for Beatrix. She can cast some white magic, and hits decent.
I just honed Excalipoor to max level. I also got Locke to 170 Speed, which is required to get the most out of Thief's Revenge. He reaches it at Lv73.
Cyan is one of the weaker characters. I mean, he's a fine samurai but that's kind of all he does and his weapon selection is quite poor. I would've given Knight abilities to Cyan and then Dragoon to Edgar.

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

I was hoping Excalipoor would suck but give Gilgamesh a cool SB. Unfortunately, it only sucks. I'm disappointed now.
OMG I GOT ASHE'S RUNEBLADE IN DAILY DRAW
just kidding, april fools, i have had two 4*s from daily draws but nothing else (and 4* is rarer than 5* from daily draw)

I looked at Yuna's burst mode, and Dudesoft should definitely not be using Yuna as a healer. Gear her for +MAG and make her a summoner. The command that hits all enemies is almost as strong as Valefor/Meteor except it hits twice, meaning that you can break the damage cap if you've got enough MAG. In difficult content, healers need to heal and don't have the chance to drop damage that fat, so you'd really be missing out on its potential. The healing command on it is also weak enough that's it's essential a super regen than costs a turn that could've been used to do 12k damage.
Looking forward to tonight's bonus battles so I can get new followers. The extended gap-filling orb festival has meant I haven't gotten a single new follower in like five days. I need to fill in some of the changes these SSB banners have made to my friends list.

Ultimate Leblanc Syndicate party:

Mastered this in one go with full medals, and I really believe I could've done this without cure magic. Not only was Y'shtola pretty bored, but Yuna never even used Hymn of the Fayth (not that she reliably could... she only had enough meter to do it when Ormi was the only one left).
Sephiroth hit Ormi for over 22k with Black Materia when he was behind his shield, so that was pretty cool--wonder what it would've done if I timed it while Ormi was exposed. Flashing Blade was almost 14k, which I used after dispelling Leblanc's second Not-so-Mighty Guard.
Edgar poisoned everybody on the first turn with Bio Blaster, which was ticking for about 2k. He was also on dispel and blind duty. Very good character for this fight.
Locke was there for Mirage Dive to get slow medals. I waited until Leblanc hasted her homies. He also helped burst Leblanc down with Thief's Revenge during her weak phase.
Yuna pew-pew. No Blood of the Summoner activations, which I'm going to falsely believe is due to it working almost every turn against the +++ boss.
I don't think there's anything tricky for this. Just keep mitigation, Blind, Poison, and Slow up. Kill Leblanc first because she has the least HP, deals the most damage since it's magical, and heals/buffs her homies. Logos misses a lot if you Blind him, so do that early to avoid his status-buster attacks.

just creamed boris. i'll do the syndicate ultimate in a few hours when my stamina's back.
what weapon is locke using? Not sure I've seen it before.
Gonna do Yuna/Tyro/Auron/Lulu/Edgar, I think, with Tyro on Wall/Tempo Flurry/Magic BD duty. Gonna try to forgo Shellga, or maybe use Boon/Divine Guardian/Mighty Guard (VII) RW.
you are getting stupid lucky with your status procs in these ultimates, jude. i never see yukikaze or such getting everybody XD
edit: what should I use my rosettas on next? at a kinda weird crossroads here with no obvious options.

I have a fully augmented 7* Blazefire Sabre (FFXIII Sword) and 6* Shimmering Blade (FFX Katana).
Other character 6*s:
Wyrmfang (FFXIII Rod)
Sentinel Grimoire (Core Book)
Ras Algethi (FFXII Gun)
Lulu's Hairpin (FFX Hat)
Minwu's Robe (FFII Robe)
Other Notable 6*s:
Gladius (FFXII Knife)
Lominsan Bow (FFXIV Bow)
Genji Helm (FFV Helm)
Notable 5*s:
Assassin's Dagger (FFVI Knife; notable because dagger)
Drill (FFVI Spear; notable because best FF6 weapon I have)
Dancing Dagger (FF2 Knife; notable because dagger with higher ATK than Gladius+)
Lightning Steel (FFX Sword; notable because lighting+ for spellblades)
Lustrous Sword (FFIV Sword; notable because SSB)
Healing Staff (FFV Staff; notable because holy+)
Fairy Flute (FFIX Instrument; notable because SSB)
Wyrmfang is really tempting, but it's +Mind and... +10 Mind really isn't that impressive. That said, I do use it in almost all realms. Ras Algethi is cool but it's the oldest gun (except maybe Valiant?) and I might roll a Balthier SSB in a few weeks since I plan on farming up 100 myth for FF12 banners. Lustrous Sword is only 116 ATK, which pales hard in comparison to even Lightning Steel (for an SSB weapon, it's got a sick SSB but it's a mehhh sword). Lulu's Hairpin and Minwu's Robe are both great armors, but I'm not sure if +10 RES is worth it when I have weapons around.
I might wait until after I roll on banner 5 tonight, or even after FF12...? Ugh, I want to use these Rosettas. :X

Yukikaze only blinded the group against Ultimate Gigas. On this fight it only worked against Leblanc a few turns in. It was Edgar who blinded the other two. His action order was Bio Blaster -> Blind Shell resisted by Logos -> Blind Shell that got taunted by Ormi -> Blind Shell on Logos. Also, because it took so long to get Logos blinded, he managed to Sleep/Slow Locke and Sephiroth, though Ormi broke one of those himself. I think it was a mistake to push Bio Blaster first, and in hindsight I think Edgar's first turn ought to be Blind Shell on Logos.
Locke's weapon is a 4++ Warrior's Sword from FF10. With synergy it only has one less ATK than the new dagger, so it's pretty solid. I have a 5-star Official Ball as well, but no room to work it into my party.
For Rosetta Slabs, I would augment either a common weapon type, or I would augment a rare type usable by a powerful character I'll often bring to foreign records. Regardless, I think the weapon should already be a 5+ or better and preferably an SSB. Out of your current options, I would choose Wyrmfang if it's a magic-focused rod, but I don't know if that's true since it could go either way for a Vanille weapon. If not, I'd probably wait. Nevermind, I glossed over where you said it was a MND weapon. What's the ATK on Gladius? That might not be a bad choice.
Got a new item from daily draw: 2-star Whip (FF4).
