MV IS OUT!

This really feels unfinished.
Not being able to seamlessly import resources (chipsets) from VXace is very, very dumb.

I feel like a lot of people have the same sentiments as I do so far.
It's a good upgrade if you're a power user, but more of a sidegrade for casual users. The files sizes for projects are massive and the game launchers alone are like 60 MB.
I like the engine overall, but if there's one thing I want to see revamped, it's file efficiency.

I found that it seems to be due to having an .OGG and .m4a for each sound/song or, at least, it's a major contributor.
My audio folder sits at almost 500 MB right now :/ ... can they not find a common file type that everything can use and just go with that?
You can. But unless I'm doing something wrong, the lowest I was able to get a project was around 100 MB. Considering I've seen full, RTP-less games in Ace sit at around 5-10MB, I'm really wondering what the heck all that space is being used for. Is the game-playing engine itself 100-ish MB?
So I just downloaded the free trial of MV. Not that I plan to make a short game with it, is just to get a feel of the engine. :)
P.S. : Are the filesizes really that big!? Damn, that's really unfortunate... :(

Not so much the files being large as it is there being a whole lot of smaller sized files (audio folder with some of those BaseResource things thrown in can put you up to about 700 audio files)
But yeah, I see .zip/.rar/.7z becoming a common thing to download for games, now, instead of the self extractors
EDIT: also, it appears that some things update automatically when a new image is placed into a folder (the actors folder, for example)
author=karins_soulkeeperSomeone at Degica was having a lot of fun with the special additions in the base resource pack, haha.
dem goodies \(-w-)/

Those backgrounds, a lot of them are really good.
Also good god the plugins are legion as they are many. O.O

GUYS WHY ARE AUTOTILES SO FUCKY
Yeah, the wall/cliff autotiles seem to work worse than VX Ace o.O

The middle parts don't autotile right! I'll have to shift-click just to get them to look normal >.<;;
Maybe I'll just make most cliffs/walls on the A5 part instead. >.<
autotiles and the editor lag is enough to make me consider getting a refund and going back to ace. WELP
character generator is nice though

I've been playing with the character gen for 3/4 hours now.
What I do notice, however. And I don't know if this is only me, but whenever I try to change some stats (or percentage based stuff ec. traits, effects), RPG Maker MV doesn't react for god knows how long and it shuts down, which made me sad after realizing that 3/4 hours of non-stop progress was lost due to me trying to change some traits for enemies.
Anybody else with this problem regarding RPG maker MV?
I thought I was the only one 0.0 Good to know I'm not
I really hope they get it fixed soon
I really hope they get it fixed soon
Yeah, hopefully all of this will be fixed, either officially or thru plug-ins. Else I guess we'll have to wait for RPG Maker MV Ace or something.
If you go to system settings, specifically the point about numbering, set the decimal digit from , to . - that avoids issues with the trait bug for now.
Ummm where is system settings exactly? I couldn't be sure if you meant computer settings or mv settings.
Ubuntu users should be happy to know that MV runs as it should on the latest Wine version in the EDITOR. The actual game executables don't run for me anyways. There is some editor lag, but that seems to be cross-platform from the comments I've seen.
This feels like the transition from VX to VXA, except much worse. Even what I was expecting ended up much worse than it was presented. And the graphics are very awkward, I didn't know things could get more awkward than VX/A's mapping setup. And the new tile resolution is hideous. HIDEOUS. Oh well, at least there is Javascript to save the day. It's almost as if it were rushed. :\
change is great and all, but good changes are better lmao

100 MB doesn't feel too prohibitive to me. Using songs from the RMN Music Pack in a short game I made got me over that easily, and I didn't even use many of them. If the music is of decent quality, and if what was said about the sound-effect formats is true, then 100 MB sounds about right. Unless you mean 100 MB without any assets at all, which does sound strange.
EDIT:
But I have a lot of memory, and fibre-optic internet so I find it hard to understand the problem, I guess. Is 100 MB+ still prohibitive/annoying for most people?
I feel that it's more prohibitive for your potential players than it is for the creators themselves. I've had people interested in playing projects I've made, only to get intimidated by a 200MB download and never download it. File size is a surprisingly big factor in getting people to play your game.
