MV IS OUT!

What I do notice, however. And I don't know if this is only me, but whenever I try to change some stats (or percentage based stuff ec. traits, effects), RPG Maker MV doesn't react for god knows how long and it shuts down, which made me sad after realizing that 3/4 hours of non-stop progress was lost due to me trying to change some traits for enemies.
Anybody else with this problem regarding RPG maker MV?
I actually haven't been.. It's been playing rather nice for me, though I may have jinxed it now.

I've had people interested in playing projects I've made, only to get intimidated by a 200MB download and never download it. File size is a surprisingly big factor in getting people to play your game.
Which I find odd considering some of those people are happy to wait for a multi-GB download off of Steam/PSN/XLive. I guess it really just hammers those with real slow speeds or bandwidth limits
Though it already doesn't bode too well, I suppose, when a project is almost 1 GB in size from the start just due to audio and images alone.
I'm going through all the audio an re-encoding them just to see how small I can get the files before I start losing any noticeable quality (I doubt ye average player has studio-grade gear).. Preliminary tests seem promising
EDIT: like, I've managed to more than half the size of the 63-ish OGG files in my folder from some 260 MB to
I think it'd help if these files weren't at ~500 kbps bitrates which is waaay more than enough, IMO

128 kbps is usually enuf.

Ubuntu users should be happy to know that MV runs as it should on the latest Wine version in the EDITOR. The actual game executables don't run for me anyways. There is some editor lag, but that seems to be cross-platform from the comments I've seen.
This feels like the transition from VX to VXA, except much worse. Even what I was expecting ended up much worse than it was presented. And the graphics are very awkward, I didn't know things could get more awkward than VX/A's mapping setup. And the new tile resolution is hideous. HIDEOUS. Oh well, at least there is Javascript to save the day. It's almost as if it were rushed. :\
change is great and all, but good changes are better lmao
I got excited for a moment reading about the ability to run on Ubuntu and then the Vine came.
I think, that the victor isn't as much Java The Script as the plug-in system. I would rather see Ruby to persist in it as JS is used by every second engine nowadays and the former language definitely added a exotic flavor.
I just found out that I can place trees over one another and they wont delete parts of each other.
This just keeps getting better

EDIT: what I'm going on about
You know, the thing that's opening up the most possibilities to me is the whole "mouse support" thing. Especially the script that extends it.
I am going to make some nifty-ass minigames with that.
EDIT: Holy crap, I have a working prototype for one already. This is amazing.

I've yet to really see much of a problem with RPG Maker MV, tbph. Seems fine to me.
I'm not having any bugs, but I will say that I am thoroughly vexed at the loss of my best friend: Resource Manager.

I spent some time digging through the included assets (after moving them together, I like having the 'rtp' where I pick what I want and c/p into my game), thoughts and questions so far:
- There's no included side view battlers for the top row of Actor3. Is this intended or an oversight?
- Ahahahaha there's a MV version of Alex and the 2k DemonLord dude in the default scifi assets. There's also remixes of the 2k3 RTP which is, different, but maybe it'll grow on me. Still neat to see.
- The MV music is more meh so far, haven't really found any outstanding tracks. Better than VX but not as good as Ace or XP I think. Maybe I'll just need to listen to more of them.
- The enemy battlers look real sharp, with my favorites being the scifi being the Seiryuu / Byakko / Suzaku / Genbu collection. I was a bit disappointed there wasn't a redraw for front/side view at first but I'd rather have more good ones in sideview because I'm biased for that.
- Really, I like the 'scifi' assets and I'm glad they're part of the default stuff. Can't complain about the sheer number of stuff you get and the scifi helps with the variety too.
- Are the Cover Art Characters credited under Enterbrain / RPG Maker as a whole? I didn't see any documentation like that. Also who's the name/character match up? I know from the HTML5 demo that Aldo is 1_1 and Nina is 1_2 but can only guess on the rest:
1_1 Aldo
1_2 Nina
1_3 ROB
1_4 Yaichi
1_5 Dilara
1_6 Eisele
1_7 Gustaf
1_8 Hayatemaru
Hopefully soon I'll actually make a game in MV and have a better idea of how it all comes together!

I feel it could be an oversight; there's files for Actor3_5 -> Actor3_8 which means they at least had a 3_1 -> 3_4 somewhere. Perhaps they weren't good enough quite yet or someone accidentally'd them?
EDIT: apparently refresh rates >60Hz can cause havoc

EDIT 2: seeing people complain about not being able to run this in 1080p makes me wonder why that's even important for this engine. I've always understood it to keep close to that Retro/SNES-y look

It's a standard for a lot of games nowadays. The HD generation spoils us.

man 48x48 tiles in 1080p will look like (color=turd)utter shit(/color)
no it's not. It looks fine. I tested it in 1080p too

What??? I thought MV is arguably the best so far.
Also:
Most of the monster types return in MV's default assets - it completely threw me off in how the elemental spirits were redesigned from "pretty but ferocious" to "disgustingly adorable".
Also, RPG Maker VX is my favourite in terms of music, especially the tracks Battle2 and Scene11. Only thing topping that is Boss1 from RPG Maker 2000.

There is a disgusting lack of Animal.mid in this post.

I think MV's music is pretty great, though XP's is still my fav! (though I certainly do have a soft spot for a lot of 2000/2003 midis :3)

I can understand that being annoying, but a lot of the monsters are really super cool! The majority of the new monster art is totally fantastic with some really nice, freaky monsters! :DDDDD
It's not that I don't like cute elementals, it's just very surprising. Still, RPG Maker XP is the best source for saccharine overdosed sprites.

It will probably look "fine" (no issues) but the tiles to screen ratio will be something like this:

>w>
For me this is unnaceptable in a regular RPG >w>
You must feel close to the character and environment, not like you cast Sight 5 times or you are viewing the game from the stratosphere >w>'
Of course with parallax mapping or by changing the tile size to something bigger (or using chars the size of four tiles) this can become a non-issue, but...
I guess it's also a matter of personal taste but whenever I see those really big screens with tiny characters walking around, it immediately draws me to bad flash fangames from the 2000's >w>'
EDIT: The MV monsters are the best IMO. And I really like the new faceset style! It's a bit simpler than Ace's but it's also much more lifelike and charmy.
I like the sideview sprites too. Overall I'm really enjoying MV! More power than ever before. It feels like XP ; VX / Ace were training for the day they released such a powerful tool!

I can really only see this being okay in a multiplayer adaption of this type of game. But for a single-player RPG Maker game this would be hideous.

I guess this is only a matter of opinion, but I personally think that it could be quite nifty. But then again, RPGMV is still brand new and there have been no plans made (as far as I know) about any games with an absurdly large screen ratio.
So I guess we'll have to see how things work out in a few weeks or months, for whomever may create a 1080p game.
