LEGEND OF ZELDA STORYLINE IDEA

I've been toying with the idea of a Zelda game set before Twilight Princess but directly after Ocarina of Time during the Child Timeline. A prequel to Twilight Princess?? I know I know. How original. But humor me.
Basically, we all know that Link goes off on a quest to save Termina and ultimately defeat Majora's Mask. What we don't know is what happens after the quest. Does Link return to Hyrule? Does he find Navi? Why was he looking for her in the first place?
Here's a rough synopsis of my story:
Young Link embarks on a quest, leaving Hyrule in order to do so. Before leaving, he recounts the events from "Ocarina of Time" to Young Zelda, who goes to warn the King. The King still doesn't believe her (this isn't the first time she's told him that Ganondorf is evil, remember?), so she again reaches out to Impa for help. Impa tells her about the legend of the Ancients passed down among members of the Sheikah tribe.
The Ancients were incredibly talented at using magic, but it came with a price. In order to help the Goddess seal away a great evil, they had to become the Keepers of Shadow in order to keep the darkness in check. Most of them ended up sealing themselves up into the Earth in order to keep the Evil at bay, while those that remained were tasked with upholding the seal and passing the information along to the next generations. Impa tells her that the Sages would be powerful enough to stop Ganondorf, but they haven't awakened yet and that the Ancients would be their best chance at defeating him.
Just as they begin to enact their plan, Ganondorf and his army of monsters and Gerudo attack the palace. Zelda and Impa flee from castle and go into hiding. While in hiding, Zelda questions whether or not Link will return to which Impa responds that she isn't sure he will ever return. She then begins to train Zelda in the ways of the Sheikah in order to defend herself while Ganondorf's army conquers Hyrule.
7 years later Zelda, now trained to fight like a Sheikah, is going by the name "Sheik" and has set out on her quest to find and awaken the Ancients. On her quest, she will learn more about Hyrule's dark side as well as what became of Link in all that time. Zelda in both her Sheik form and her normal form would be the main playable character.
I would call this game "The Legend of Zelda: Shadow's Vengeance". I only have the storyline, if anybody wants to use it for their project. I wouldn't know where to begin with actually making this game. What do you think? What are your ideas?

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

I always thought the Gerudo-Hylian war was caused by Link telling princess Zelda what happened during his adult life. As in, the king does believe Zelda, and orders Ganondorf's execution. Ganondorf, in turn, flees to the Gerudo desert, and then attacks the castle, starting the Gerudo-Hylian war. The Gerudo-Hylian war also ends in Hyrule's favour, leading to Ganondorf's failed execution, as seen in Twilight Princess.
I like the idea of a game with Zelda as the playable character, but what you're describing now is just the events of Ocarina of Time from Zelda's perspective. It's like the fact that Link was sent back in time to warn Zelda early has no effect on Hyrule's history whatsoever, which I feel is sort of iffy, as that conflicts with what's said and shown in Twilight Princess.
Of course the setting would make a lot of sense if it were set in the 7 years that Link was sealed away. Ganondorf takes over Hyrule, and you play as Zelda, being taught the way of the Sheikah, in a constant struggle against Ganondorf, until 7 years later the hero of time appears in adult form.

But that would be in the Adult timeline. And I see what you're saying about the Twilight Princess conflict, but was Ganondorf immediately executed following what Link told Zelda or after the war? Was the war and Link warning Zelda canon in the Hystoria or was it more or less implied by fans?

Well, I mean, yeah in a sense lol. You're in the alternate timeline. There is no Hero of Time because Link never returned from Termina (According to my plot anyway), so instead of waiting for the hero, Zelda takes it upon herself to find and awaken the Ancients and stop Ganondorf herself, all leading up to the events of Twilight Princess where Ganondorf is taken to the Arbiter's Grounds (Which don't even appear in Ocarina of Time, so this story could serve as an explanation as to where the prison came from) to be executed. Even if the whole "Young Link warned Zelda/Ganondorf fled from Hyrule" thing is canon, I would still frame the story the way I described.
But you make a good point, and I'll keep it all in mind!
Figuring out the timeline the Legend of Zelda is something you're probably not going to be able to do. The original NES game is chronologically the last in the order of events. Zelda II: Link's Quest is the only sequel. Every subsequent game is a prequel. Link to the Past was a direct prequel to the NES game and introduced the idea of multiple Links connected by lineage, and Link's Awakening was a sequel to Link to the Past. Then came Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask tried to explain events described in A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening, but get a number of details wrong. Wind Waker washed the storyline away and Twilight Princess revealed that there are actually two separate timelines.
You would be better off not trying to explain existing storylines and simply telling your story as a stand alone: instead of trying to explain timelines, just make it try to fit one. There's plenty of room for a Princess Zelda that finally picks up a sword and fights, and by itself, your story idea seems as good as any. I would worry though, if you tried to string together a coherent timeline for the entire Zelda universe in your story. I think it would be too much of a mess.

My goal isn't to explain the timeline. It's to tell the backstory of the Sheikah and set it during that gap between Link's journey to Termina and the beginning of Twilight Princess. I just read the Historia, and Link's warning DID lead to Ganondorf's immediate execution shortly after. So, my story wouldn't focus PRIMARILY on being a prequel to Twilight Princess as it would be to flesh out Zelda as a heroine and sort of tie some things together, albeit loosely (This is a fan game after all. It's non-canon to begin with). And you're correct about how convoluted the timeline is. Even the creators don't really take it all THAT seriously. I'm not too concerned with absolutely sticking to the the rules of what's happened during the timeline.
BUT I would certainly be open to penning a stand-alone Zelda game using the idea of telling the Sheikah's backstory as a standalone game. I think that would be fun, especially if the fans really took to it. Thanks for your feedback, guys! You've got my head filling with new ideas! Keep it coming :)
