[POLL] WHY YOU NO NOMINATE FOR 2015 MISAOS YET, RMN?

Because I've been working my ass off the entire year to complete my new 30+ hour RPG (which I started working on the same year). In other words, I've been rather busy and sadly haven't had the time to play others' games.

I personally don't know if I care that much about the contest, or contests in general, anyway. MISAOS mostly seems like a war between the popular/trendy games in the community.
My game didn't receive a single vote the year it was finished. I still got lots of helpful feedback and praise from players who enjoyed it (sometimes loved the game so much to consider it one of their favorites ever). I'm happy with that and have since then moved on to brighter futures, making better games.

I am going to release my game this year, hopefully by the 21st December. If I wanted to get some MISAO bling I'd probably release at the start of 2016, right?

Can't we just put the Misaos out of their misery? They're a terrible award system.

I agree, these awards are fucking pointless. If they were a person, I'd happily curb-stomp them.

The misaos were never good, and its one of those awful legacies that RMN still needs to overcome.

LOL you guys are just sorry sobs, just have fun with some awards and nominate whoever you want. Then whoever wins just congratulate them and move on. It's not like it's the end of the world or the worst thing ever, it's just awards, and they're being conducted in the democratic way so in a sense some of it has to do with popularity but that's just the nature of the beast.

I for one really enjoy them, and maybe if you don't enjoy the Misaos, maybe it's because you just don't enjoy awards in general. Nobody agrees with the Oscars or the Grammys or the Emmys or "Top Lists" because not everyone agrees on the same thing, so I think people should just get over themselves and have fun with a popularity contest and embrace it for what it is, and just stop being so uber-contrarian and lighten up.

As for me, the reason why I haven't nominated people for Misaos is because I was waiting until December when I was going to scroll through every single one of the games released in 2015 and come up with a ranked list of what I believe where my favourite games released in 2015. I was also thinking about creating a Misao thread like I've done before with my *cough cough* old account *cough*.

Anyway, I'm actually a big fan of the Misaos and, while I believe perhaps they should be conducted like a contest with expert judges weighing in for the nominations and the people weighing in on the wins, or vice versa, I really do think these awards shouldn't be treated like you've got allergies to anything mainstream or what lots of people just tend to like. Also I think a lot of people are butthurt because their games aren't on the lists. Tough luck, just have fun celebrating others for once.

While I like the idea...

1) I don't play too many games from here, meaning I have much less options to choose from. Hell, I'm not even sure I played anything that was released this year!

2) I wonder if a lot of people are in the same boat, meaning that there may be plenty of people who only play and vote for the stuff that gets front-page-coverage or mass-internet-appeal.

Like, if Blank Dream is eligible for votes, I'm pretty damn sure it'll see it sweep at least two categories.

To be fair, Blank Dream was a hell of a great game. That said, some of our IGMC games should get nominations at the very least.


I've always liked the misaos. They're fun. Also, I nominated a few games this year... including Blank Dream. Yes, I'm THAT person, but hell, it was a very well done game guys. One of the better horror games to come out of the blue, despite not being scary in any way, shape or form. It's just very polished with a good story and looks great as well as plays great.

Don't hate on a game when you haven't played it, just because of where it originated.

Also, its not award ceremonies I have issues with so much (though they arent a very good metric to go by in the end), the misaos have always left a bad taste in my mouth in particular though.

Honestly, a new and better tradition is needed if you ask me.

My personal favourites from what I've played have been Free Spirits, Resonate ~call out my angel~, Sellsword, Starship TsukuruNova 20003, Disparity, April Was a Fool, Qui Domi and Decision.

Other games that I've heard have been quite good and either want to play or haven't completed, are Blank Dream, Grist of Flies, RUIN FRONTIER 0, Born Under the Rain, Brave Hero Yuusha, Nora's Tale, Ink Travellers, and Red Syndrome.

If I can be bothered I'll create a thread like I have for the past couple of years, so we can discuss nominations etc. because honestly that's my favourite part.

342 votes is pretty absymal. I'm more or less with Sail in that there have been no games that have personally wowed me to the extent that I'd vote for it in a heartbeat, but also because I never really play RM games. >< Or get time.

Personally, I like the Misaos, but I think my time will only come next year. XD

Problem with a contest that's less Student Council-y is that you'd have to get people to play and judge all the games and that's been conclusively proven to be like pulling teeth while herding cats.

People always say the Misaos suck around Misao time, and there's never any really good proposal for a replacement.
