RMN PLAYS TOWER OF DESTRUCTION

Posts

You see a flicker to the left and jump back just in time to dodge a claw coming out of the smokescreen. The demon follows straight after, reaching for you with its other arm.

It hits your leg - a light blow that still burns despite the shallow wound - and you instantly react by slamming the hammer into the creature's elbow, effectively sending the creature crashing into the snow.

No, people can't control the demon. Showing the skills was just so you guys could plan a bit.

Umm...okay...if he's down, don't give him time to recover.

Strike with dagger
Dodge

Noooo! Smokey! Defend yourself! Defend your sweet sweet crib from this burglar!

You pounce while the enemy is down, striking out with your blade. It is a glancing blow, but despite that the creature draws in on itself, preparing to defend against a follow-up attack. You jump back, however, ready for a counter strike, but the monster lumbers up and away, shaking off the snow that sizzles against its hot flesh.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, so, what's hilarious is that Sooz guessed those two rounds for the beast - it did indeed Defend twice! XD

Also, I made a small error - forgot that Dagger attacks first, meaning it would have hit before the beast got to defend. That's a -1 to the monster.

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

> Defend
> Strike with Hammer

It seems the only advantage we have is hit points. The creature still takes a turn each time we do, so there's no real way to avoid damage except making sure we use the dagger when it's at 1 HP.
You jump back, careful not to slip or fall in the snow. The creature watches you warily, it's flaming eye-sockets following your movements.

You heft the hammer in your hand, then step forward, carefully but with determination. Suddenly, it starts to gag again, and you run towards it, hammer raised, hoping to smash it before it manages to spit out the smokescreen you know is coming. A cloud of smoke billows from it's mouth and you swing wildly, but the creature must have moved at the last second because you miss completely.

(No status change)

Yeah, like I said, I forgot that Dagger attacks first, meaning there was a hit to its health on the last turn. I've adjusted the description and stats to reflect that. Sorry!

Defend and strike with hammer.
You jump back, trying to keep steady and watch out for the beast in the cloud, when a claw appears just where you'd been standing only seconds ago. With a snarl you bring the hammer around and crash it down on the clawed hand with all your might! Sparks flare up under the skin where your hammer hit, distracting you as another claw swipes from your right, scoring a blazing scratch across your chest!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
As much as I like the old black and white version, it just had too much room so I figured I'd mess about with it and... welp. Green is Max Stat, yellow is current. Maybe I should swap them. hmmmm

Well, we just need to do keep doing damage for now, so...

I think the colours are fine as they are. :)

Dagger and Dodge!

EDIT: DAMNIT JEROEN! Okay, use this post for the next turn then...

Oh shit, Smokey! You can't take this guy! You need to go grind on some villagers! Run!
You ignore the pain as the creature slashes at you again, this time catching your leg. You bring up the hammer to block, but end up overestimating the power behind the swing, striking the chest of the monster as it leaned in towards you and blows another round of ash and smoke straight into your eyes!

You swing the hammer wildly with one arm, trying to force the creature to give you some room as you wipe your eyes as much as you can. You can barely see, blurred images fill your vision, but you pull out your dagger and strike out at a dark shape on your left before rolling out of the way of another ash cloud and a claw from within it. You manage to hit the creature's arm a glancing blow.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Queuing up turns is fine, no worries!

You bring up your hammer in a guard position, watery eyes straining to see where the creature will attack from. A sudden movement from the left has you bringing the weapon down, a heavy blow striking the creature in the head. It's arm slashes across your stomach as you do so, but you're desperate to finish this battle and the closeness of the creature means your aim is on point as you bring the dagger around and slash at the throat of the creature.

It brings up it's arms in a defensive move, but it's too late - embers and ash flow freely from the cut, as though it were blood. You watch carefully, in case of a counter attack, but the creature instead pitches forward, into the snow. It lays there for a moment before crumbling into ash.

With a gasp you fall down onto the snow and try to catch your breath. Thankfully, the wounds seem to have been cauterised by the extreme heat of the creature's slashes, so you just gather some snow onto them to cool them down a bit.

After a small rest, you poke around in the ashes, but there's nothing to loot from the body. You turn towards the house and peek through the open door, but there's naught there from the looks of it. Turning to inspect the room, you hear a choking, guttural sound coming from a room beyond.

What do you do?
>Check out the noise. It might be the Sage?
>Leave and decide to find the Sphere's trail.
+Eat a Provision
+Drink some Brandy

Provisions: 9
Items:
- Climbing set (rope, ice picks, hammer)
- Brandy (2 uses, +4 Stamina each use)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can eat Provisions once per 'turn', if you want, but if you run out you'll be in trouble of starving. Sometimes you'll -have- to eat Provisions in story-scripted events. I will allow 3 times where you don't use them when scripted, but doing so will result in -2 Stamina.

Provisions restore 5 Stamina points and you can only eat one at a time. Remember that Brandy only has two uses but can restore 4 Stamina points, and it can be taken any time outside of battle - even during a Provision eating.

A + during choices will denote the ability to do that -as well as- a > action.
> actions are the basic story related ones, and you can only pick one of the choices marked so.
+ actions are side actions you can take and you can pick on or all of them, unless otherwise noted.
Some Brandy would be good after this battle, THEN we check the noise.

Why do you care so much about the demon? XD
You sip the brandy gingerly, feeling it warm your insides and make you feel a bit more at ease.
+4 Stamina

Once done, you peek through the doorway. Inside is the main room of the house - scorched up and smashed, as though a great battle had been fought within. The sound comes from an old man, gasping for breath, his singed robes half covering his clawed and wounded frail body. He is clearly beyond your help, but he beckons you to him.

"Demon," he gasps, "servant of Zeverin. Madman bringing the Hells to the world... fiery Sphere his. Servants... mindless. Demons, spawn of life-in-death. Terrible, pitiless... Ice Palace. The answer is in the Ice Palace."

His eyes stare wildly at you; his death is apon him.

"Bottom drawer of the desk... magic... help..."

He is about to say more, clawing at your arm with his right hand, when he slumps back in your arms, dead.

Tasrin is wearing a simple silver ring; it is of no use to him now so you take it. Laying his body down you move over to the desk and find the key to open the bottom drawer. Inside is a potion bottle - a single Potion of Stamina. Searching the cabin you also find three pieces of Gold and four Provisions.
+1 Silver Ring
+1 Stamina Potion
+3 Gold
+4 Provisions

It is now late in the day; after burying the Sage's body as best you can, you bar the doors and windows and hunker down in his bed, a small fire in the fireplace, sleeping the night in peace.

+1 Day
=================+++=================

You start the day by eating a hearty breakfast, then head out to the north-east, to locate the trail of the Sphere. It's a long way back to the trail, but cutting across flat countryside helps make up for lost time. Soon, however, grey clouds are gathering and the weather begins to look uncertain.
-1 Provision
+5 Stamina

Pick a number between 1 and 6.

Provisions: 12
Gold: 3
Items:
- Climbing set (rope, ice picks, hammer)
- Brandy (1 use, +4 Stamina each use)
- Silver Ring (was Tasrin the Sage's)
- Stamina Potion (1 use, heals half Max Stamina. Can be used in battle)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since you were forced to eat a Provision, I figure you might as well get the bonus from it, even though whether you do or not isn't mentioned in the book. I figure it works as normal in any case.

The Stamina potion is quite good - it increases your Stamina by half your Max Stamina. It won't allow for overflow, though. It can also be used during a battle, unlike Provisions and Brandy, which can be very, very helpful!

If you can't tell, I actually spent a bit more time on this image than usual. I just wanted it to look almost decent. XD
Pretty sure Sooz is just having fun. No crime there~ ^.^
