How does one keep THAT many characters distinct.
Going for reduced roles in battle, rather than having many balanced characters, she might have very specific ones with few skills. Ity will work wonders if party can be switched all the time or there is a multi party system (both things I am using for my project).
Anyway, back to work, exams are dead corpses behind me now HA!
Honestly, I doubt you can have 40 different characters with totally different roles. This is coming from someone who has 10 different characters with several skills each. And I know Craze is working on a game with 14 different characters that are also complex.
I'm curious to see the result, but I honestly expect to see it have Suikoden syndrome. =)

@Karsuman, it's possible, except aside from 3-5 characters, you can't change the others, etc. I never played Suikoden so I don't know anything about that syndrome :P
Characters all end up being rough stereotypes of one another.
Basically, there is probably a set of 10 or so characters out of 50-60 or so that far outclass the rest, giving you no reason to use any other character outside of artificially creating a challenge for yourself(or because you like the way they look). Saga Frontier/Romancing Saga/etc. also have tons of characters and fall into a similar trap.

Nessiah, I'm not talking about character ideas. I'm talking about gameplay mechanics.
It's easy to come up with ideas for characters because writing and ideas have no boundaries. Gameplay mechanics are based in data and numbers, and are much more difficult to come up with and balance.

I wouldn't worry too much since I have already set skills and what they can do that the others can't do and that some of them are playable depending on the path you chose.
