WOW, THE OFFICIAL RPG MAKER SITE FORUM RULES ARE..... WOW!
Posts
This thread is literally why I signed up for this forum. Due to the very same issue that I can't cope with the stingy stiff third grade E rated Disney movie shit. Never been into censorship. So this is my very first comment with my new account. lol

Welcome lol. We aren't a bunch of thugs here, but we just like a looser set of rules. It's more fun that way, right guys? lol.

Breakin the law, breakin the law!
They're the reason I'm here too. Actually, they're the reason I almost abandoned RPG Maker completely. I was like "holy crap their official face is this toxic?"
The thing is their users were generally fine. Their staff were just absolutely horrible human beings filled with pettiness, completely unfounded arrogance, and this nonsense crusade to hinder community activity.
Their REAL rules are:
-DO NOT, at any time, post on our forums. If you do, you may be banned.
-DO NOT discuss things. Especially games. Saying the name of a commercially released game is copyright infringement and is therefore illegal.
-DO NOT use RPG Maker.
-If you do, then do not put any more than parallel 5 events on your map. Also no maps should be bigger than 50x50 tiles. If you make maps bigger or with more events, nobody's computer will be able to handle the strain.
-The staff reserves the right to copy your friendly answer to somebody's question, delete your post, and then post it and claim it as their own.
-The staff reserves the right to edit your post to make it look like you said whatever the hell we want you to.
Seriously, it pisses me off that I was even there.

RMW is where I hail from. I actually like the place pretty well, but I wanted to expand my influence. I have a RPG Maker Empire to build!
Also I've not had a single bad experience over at RMW and I have been registered there for over a year though I just became really active in the last two months (Going from a couple dozen posts to 100+) so I can't speak to other people's experience... just some of the stuff here seems harsh towards them and my experience has been the opposite, that's all.
I am just trying to break into this place now and establish myself.

Um... having been behind the scenes on the RMW forums quite often, they don't do half that stuff I can tell you now. Yeah, they're a bit harsher and restrictive with their rules but they definitely do NOT edit posts, nor do they copy/delete posts. (They do hide posts that are inflammatory or break the rules, however, and they may copy/paste an answer that perfectly sums up something that can help answer someone else's question/s, which is fair enough, but they don't delete the initial answer.)
They definitely don't tell you not to use their own product, that's for sure? (I mean, unless you've been stupid enough to let slip that you have a pirated version which is fair enough since they're, you know, the OFFICIAL forums.) They do let you discuss games, and they do let you post in the forums unless you've been banned for something.
Personally speaking, I love gamepages, and the fact that I don't have to worry about if I'm posting my game in the "completed" forum, "work-in-progress" forums (I think there's more than one?), or "commercial" forum (though I've not gone commercial).
It's also true that my games generally involve rips, of some kind, and, as rips are not allowed, that I don't feel like I would have much to contribute there. I absolutely understand that RMW can't allow rips, though.
*Edit: Though, to be fair, I think Nakaishi Wars could be put on thereif it ever gets done.

I like how "Hey, keep things family-friendly and on-topic and don't say shit that'll start fights" is now "toxic." Bunch of people here who just can't stomach the idea of different subjects being appropro for different venues.

I could be wrong but I feel like I read this before... you *can't* post rips. While they discourage the use of rips I believe you can post games that include ripped material as long as you aren't passing it off on your own. They do have an image to uphold but I know for a fact I just recently read a thread involving some discussion about rips and someone said the mods would close them down and the mods came in to say the thread could stay as there was no posted ripped material. I don't know the official stance obviously since I am not a mod and I do know they encourage people to use community created or custom stuff that is not rips. On that note I am not entirely sure why I am even here talking about it. I am not their public defender... but I had a moment where I felt like they were getting a bad wrap and just got involved. -_-
I'd do the same thing for RMN though and I just started here so yeah... just that kind of guy.

Even RMN has its limits, which causes issues when people find themselves over them and then get shocked that OMG THEY EXIST. >.<;
And yeah, they have to be harsher and more careful with their public image because they are official. They can't let some of the shit slide that we do because kids actually visit their site pretty often and they keep it family friendly. It makes complete sense and that's good - it's necessary for a forum to have limitations, else chaos and crazy rules the day.
Rips are allowed in the games themselves as long as it's not incredibly blatant and in-your-face. They don't want to stomp out games, but they also want to encourage people to make games without rips.

Yeah like I don't go to RMW because... well, actually, because most of the cool peeps post here and there's a lot more people over there who seem kind of dumb and/or have terrible opinions.
But the fact that I'm allowed to swear a blue streak here is nice, too. :V

I like you guys too much to go anywhere else. Plus game pages omnomnom
RMN's game pages are really, really important in making our games feel more official. RMW's forum layout is also kind of garbage; there are so many subforums and sub-subforums that it's just painful to navigate. The people here tend to be more simpatico with me, though there are a few posters on RMW who are pretty damn cool and I wished posted here more often--Indra, Maki, and MsLittleFish immediately come to mind.
I like RMN more because of its community and gamepages (although RMW has some forum features that we really need to catch up on), I think it's a bad look for this topic to devolve into 'wow RMW' sucks, because it doesn't.
Ideally, we want people to cross over from there and vice versa to make the community flourish as a whole, and that's not something we can do via shit talking.

Truth.
Besides, there's a lot of cool peeps over there, and it's nice to actually even HAVE an official English channel of communication between Enterbrain and the fans. Like, before Ace was a thing, it was hell getting any official news of any type, even during the XP years. It's a lot more open and easy to find out about stuff going on RM-wise nowdays and a lot of that is thanks to RMWs existence.
And we are sister sites, people. Granted, our younger sister is all grown up and doing her own things, dating that guy we're not a fan of (damn you Steam :shakes fist:) but it makes her happy and as big sis we have to be supportive, you know? ;p
Besides, it has some pretty neato features too. Granted, no gamepages and their front page is kinda lacking, but some good stuff. I mean, their resource and script sections put ours to complete shame (granted, we didn't focus on those sides of the site much, but still) and they do allow for personal blogging, too (not game blogging, but personal blogs, which is pretty nice).
