I don't think the genre itself is necessarily bad, though I haven't played any fps games yet I believe. (Unless Portal 2 counts)
The genre I will never understand why people like is MMOs.
To be fair my love of World of Warcraft mainly comes from playing the RTS series. I probably wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't been familiar with the world/characters already, and back in 2004 it was like nothing else on the market. I know we had Runescape and Everquest and whatnot but WoW in several respects was in a class of its own.

Well, I mean, people like RPGs. People like playing with friends. People like interaction. People like quests. All those things together... I can see why people would enjoy them.

Depends on what mmo it is, I guess. Online fps, racing, mobas, all count as mmos (kind of). Each genre caters to specific demographics; each, needless to say, with their own reasons for playing.
I mainly play ccg's and dota, with ragnarok being the only rpg in the mix. Ccg's, because card games just have a "special spot" for me. Dota because I like my daily dose of salt, Ragnarok because I got a bunch of promo stuff when I started out, because I was friends with one of the creators :)

The day dawns grey and tired, as the twenty contestants line up to hear the announcement. Each was brought here, blindfolded and sleeping, in the back of a light plane which took off as soon as they were awoken and deposited on the ground below them.
On their arms is a small bracelet, showing an octagon with ten different colours and their own face. It shows their faces in the grey-coloured area of the shape.
Within eyesight they can all see a white line tracing what looks to be a circle, and in the middle of it lies the looming shape of a ram's horn on it's side. Around the horn are scattered a number of lumps. Opposite of the white lined area are lines of different colours that run as far as the eye can see through different terrain. Red, orange, yellow, lime, green, aqua, blue and pink make up the eight coloured lines that form an octogon, with the grey and white areas in the middle.
You may pick to either move to one of the coloured zones or head for the white zone and try your luck at the Cornucopia. You cannot stay in the grey zone.

There will be no Sacrifice for this day. You will not be killed for non-participation for this day phase, but if you do not make a post/choice, you will be randomly sent into one of the eight colours.

Yes, it's deliberately short. This is just to get the ball rolling. Normal day phases will be from 48-72 hours.
