PIXEL GAME MAKER MV!!

Posts

I was hoping they would make more genre specific makers.. Platformer maker.. Beatemup maker.. so on and so forth.
But instead, they keep trying to make an all in one maker and lumping different genres together into one genre as "action" .. noooooooooo
I even went to their facebook page, AND their website to let them know this was tried before with IG Maker (also known as the first Action Game Maker) and told them why it failed..
I would hope kadokawa would learn, but I guess not..

Playism released some pretty dope stuff. That makes the engine much more exciting for me. Still, I find the name dull. IG Maker MV would sound better imo.
Yeah, marketing of IG was a problem. I guess the best marketing would be focus on action rpgs?

IG maker failed because there was no way at all to code, at least Pixel Game Maker MV does not have this problem.

Not being able to code isn't a problem. But It changes audiences.

I've been working on my own product for some time now, to compete with the 'Makers'. (But since this is my first post here, I'm not going to self-promote too much an put links here, unless you ask. Also sorry if I sound too pretentious, because I know I haven't proven myself yet)

You are absolutely right that the maker needs to be genre specific. Only then can you have a really easy to use maker. When you allow anything to be customized, this doesn't even put real limits of what you can make in the end.

Since I'm going to compete with RPG Maker and the likes, I'm always following their new releases closely. And to be honest, this Pixel Game Maker announcement makes me very happy (probably in the wrong sense ;)).

First of all this is Windows only. It's 2018, so why the hell is this Windows only? It's nowadays so easy to make programs multiplatform, so why would you technically limit yourself to Windows only? Great news for me! ;)

They are using flowcharts, which look nice at first sight, but when you actually want to do sometime practical with them, you end up with this:

Good luck with that!

So yeah, I see this as a continuation of their IG Maker path, which is nothing really special.

In my opinion they have a nice product with RPG Maker, but they continue to drop the ball on the rest, and even on taking RPG Maker to its full potential.

Yes, that's the one, thanks! Fixed it in the post above.

There wasn't any RM type of coding either, you had some if statements and switches but that was it no way to utilize algorithms, loops, etc. Which is a big deal, what if RM had the same type of setup? It would literally be useless...

I like the RPG Maker series but it's not something I'd use for an A-RPG as better tools exist.

We know you don't have to use the flowchart method of coding you can use javascript which is what most people will end up using anyway. I can't judge something that isn't released yet but I'd likely just use javascript as it's less likely to cause a headache.

What is your email? How can I use your maker? I want to make an adventure platformer (metroid-vania), and an RPG MAKER styled version of that sounds good.

IG Maker was bad, and this PIXEL Gamer maker has me smh. If you can out do them, I will give you my business.

A metroidvania is on my list, but now still out of my reach. I first want to focus on something that is simple enough to implement myself, but good enough to compete with the current Maker applications. So for me that means an action-adventure, with big focus on fast paced action (so bullet hell combat is also possible). You can try it online at https://rpgplayground.com . I'm now finishing up the combat (release this or next week), but people are already making adventure games with it.

You can make action RPGs with Solarus, but it's not anywhere near as easy to use as RPG Maker. Just a simple conversation requires a pile of code. But its good if you like Zelda type games.

I'd just use game maker and write your own dialogue script. I've made most of my scripts basically to mimic RPG Maker event functionality.

I've only seen Zelda games made with it sadly so I dunno on solarus but it's in constant development.
Let's try not to derail the discussion too much folks.
Thankfully we should learn more tonight (it's already early morning on the 23rd for me) when the Famitsu article gets released, they're supposed to talk a LOT more about it then.
I keep being told by a few folks that it's really a lot better than IG Maker was.
I been told audio formats are better, and the software is easier to understand and the UI is less confusing as well.
It's a wait and see thing really.
As someone who never fooled around with IG Maker, I am not sure what to make of this.
It's software for making platformers and beatemups and ... many other genres.. but they insisted on lumping all the genres together into one maker.
It's almost midnight and there still is no updates.. i'm betting new info will be out tomorrow.
Bought the Famitsu magazine.

Okay so here's what I can gather based on images.
- Sonic style loops are possible
- Canvases can be rotated/skewed
- Flowchart for both actions/players and canvases

We also got pricing
- $89.47
- $96.63 (this is likely with tax or there is a bundled version)

Release date is still 2018 but no month given, summer is from June-August.

Here's the page from the famitsu magazine.

I guess finding out something means living in Japan and buying a copy of the magazine.
I can't wait to learn more!
I'm glad to see that hills and slopes and hoops and so forth are possible.
I've already got a game in mind..
Mock-up below

I'm just waiting for the software to come out, but I hope it's easier to figure out than Game Maker Studio.
Hopefully they update their website soon.

Funny thing is there hasn't been anything since May 12th or anything after bit summit.
I was hoping that they would go with the event sheet style design - like the one in gdevelop:

They were supposed to update things and give out more information today.. the magazine was supposed to have more than 2 pages I thought..
