CloseSo I really want to work on my designing skills, but I don't want to make a whole new project, I want to practice by making a remake of a game. So I was wondering if i could get ideas on a game to remake. something simple like "Kirby Dreamland" or "Sonic the Hedgehog" or even "Megaman." Just a simple game to practice my skills and then release to the site. so any ideas?
What does making a remake have to do with game design skills?
Wouldn't uh, making something ORIGINAL be more beneficial to your skills?

Well by making the remake I can get a feel for well designed maps, and I would have to make all the variable and events again, so I would get a feel on how to make things happen. really its just a way to practice.
Sounds like a good idea, but don't just make a remake. You could try to recreate the game experience those classics offered, but add you own insight, too. Make new levels, come up with different challenges, why limit yourself to what's been done before? You can mimic the style of the old games without copying them pixel for pixel!

Final Fantasy I: The Garland Loop. It would be FFI with a squad-based action battle system... think Secret of Mana + Kary.
