On an verage human being, the distance from the tip of one middle finger to the tip of the other middle finger, when arms are outstretched to the sides, is equal to that human's height. i.e. a six foot tall man will measure six feet from one middle finger tip to the other.author=aprilschild link=topic=2619.msg49071#msg49071 date=1228376664author=ChaosProductions link=topic=2619.msg49040#msg49040 date=1228368412
Actually, no. My arms are wider than my height, which is supposed to be abnormal. Only by an inch or two, but still.
There is a typo in here somewhere... either that or you're very short/have arms that are at least 5 feet wide.
Wingspan!

My father-in-law has ridiculously long arms. I have short stubby arms. He's a couple inches short than me, but his reach outstripes mine by nearly 6 inches.
author=kentona link=topic=2619.msg49104#msg49104 date=1228403447That's basically me, except for the kentona's father part.

Haven't gained much at all since high school. Lowest was 150, highest was like 175.
I'd like to be able to build muscle, but it seems I'm maxed out or something, since I worked out like crazy in the first two years of college.
I guess God rolled me as a DEX-based character.
You eating right?
Eh, I'm at a nice medium weight. No need to change stuff. I'm getting too old for the whole muscle obsession thing I used to have.

Chances are you're not eating enough.

Me too, it's actually troubling me a lot nowadays with stomach pains and headaches...
Anyway I can't remember my stats back at 16 yrs of age. I'm 21 now:
Height: 5'7"
126 lbs.
30" waist.
BMI is 19.8 so I'm fine but idk I was a 32" when I was 16. Doctor says everything's fine but I keep getting remarks from family and friends about my decline in body mass. :(
My routine (I got some of the stuff from that bodybuilder site) isn't that effective for me I guess:
Workout A
2x10 Press-ups
2x15 Squats
1x10 Sit-ups
Workout B
2x15 Squats
2x10 ~10kg dumbell lifts on both hands.
2x15 Sit-ups
Mon/Fri - Workout A
Wed - Workout B
I'll be adjusting it to Rippetoe's Starting Strength routine but I don't have the long bar to do the military presses and rowing. I've stuck to this routine for about 2 months and while I've gained slightly bigger arm muscles my back was in some pain last week so I took a break from weight-lifting for now. (I did make sure I was in the correct posture.
I really need to get some endurance exercises in there like running or even jogging and probably to the gym but money is a big issue atm but once that thing is sorted I'll be go there.
And damn that allergy (lactose-intolerant) to red meat & cottage cheese! :P
I need a workout plan for a fat out-of-shape guy, who has access to a simple gym with your basic machines, some freeweights, elliptical trainers and a pool.
This "guy" goes to the gym Tuesdays and Thursdays, and plays hockey on Sundays.
He's also gone twice so far (last week), generally following upper body on Tuesday, and lower body on Thursday, but who's method was "Hey, this machine is free. How do I use it? Huh! Sounds good." + 3 reps of 10 at a guessed at weight.

Are you trying to lose weight, or build muscle? If you plan on building muscle, make sure you squat everytime. Squatting is amazing, because not only does it work so many muscles in your legs at once, it also releases a lot of testosterone in your body, so it helps build every other muscle that you'll try to build. Then drink a lot of milk within about 45 min of working out because if you don't consume protein soon after your workout, you'll end up just building lean muscle. Milk is pretty much amazing in a lot of regards when it comes to being healthy.

This isn't really unusual. The Vitruvian Man is supposed to represent the absolute ideal body form.
Very few people match it exactly.
author=Natook link=topic=2619.msg50104#msg50104 date=1228888735Right now, lose weight. But muscle burns calories.

I don't know how to do a proper squat, so I avoid it to keep from injuring myself. I'll do lunges instead, which are just about as good.
The way I do a squat (w/o bars) is:
- Keep back straight especially the lower area.
- Place hands on hips to keep central balance.
- Bend your knees slowly until you're feeling the load on your leg muscles. If you're getting some knee pains you're doing it wrong and I'd stop before you injure yourself.

I'm sure you know how the theory works but for me I just try it out even if it's risky. Squats are very effective as Natook said.

So yesterday I was driving and I was really hungry. I had only had a bagel and coffee all day. I drove past all these restaraunts. I pulled into one, and thought like . . . "no, if I eat, I might get fat." So I pulled away and bought a video game instead.
An hour later I bought a burrito at Chipotle just because I thought I was being silly, but I like didn't get anything on it because I would look at the beans and be like "man too many calories."
I definitely have a problem :(
EDIT: I think most of my calories come from sugar and soy milk that I put in my coffee.

brandon, if you send me money every week I will ship you home-cooked meals.
I would probably be afraid to eat them (calories).
SOY MILK?!

But what about all the love and feelings going into those home-cooked meals!? You'll trample all over them just because you're afraid to gain a little weight!? >:(
