IS THIS SITE DEAD? NEWCOMER.
Posts
Hey what's up. I joined yesterday to submit my game and it seems a very cool site. I see a lot of movement in some places and some other are just deserted.
2020 awards had like 2k nominations and 2021 had less than one hundred.
Did this community moved somewhere else or are people still hanging out here??.
I've seen there's people updating things from a decade ago and that's impressive.

The Discord server is where most of RMN's community can be found these days. It's highly active with regular posts. For the forums themselves, people post now and again, and game jams are hosted here. But to actively hang out with the community, you'll wanna use the Discord.
I however dislike some of the people on said Discord, so I haven't been on it in like a year. A few bad apples, am I right?

Hi, we movin and we zoomin.
Uh about last year's Misao, idk if this counts the nominations but it was done offsite, so at least I think that numbers regarding that can be misleading. The movement of Misaos to offsite was done since the current system doesn't allow commercial games to participate, which was something that was going to be experimented with, and the system couldn't be updated on time for that. It might not be updated this year either, which will make stats look weird again.
Again I don't know the exact numbers and details but that's the gist of what I understood. >.<
If interested, you can find the link to the Discord at the Community tab near the top of the site, the one that says Chat.
Cheers!

Interest in RPG Maker has inevitably declined over the last decade because of so many things seeking our attention on the internet and in gaming. Also, the generation that made it big were weened on old 8 and 16-bit games which the early makers appealed to, and most of them have grown old and moved onto other things. RMN is by no means dead, but it isn't what it used to be either.
But yeah, seek out thy Discord ye weary traveler.

Concerning the Misaos, the 2021 voting was held off-site. Which, both awkward in that it makes the usual method of checking the results null and void. Also, there was specifically a category for commercial games, yet, they cannot be nominated through the site architecture then. This continues to be true now. As far as I am aware, there was an attempt (or possibly several) to allow nominations of commercial games through the site to occur, but, it/they clearly did not work.
2021 was also the first year that the nomination count was recorded on a monthly basis. You can find that thread here. The actual results of the 2021 Misaos are located in this thread. Which isn't a stickied thread, but, maybe it should be because it doesn't exist anywhere else? As for this year, I sorta have to laugh nervously concerning this year's nomination turnout so far.
*Edit: Wait a sec. I almost forgot to do the thing.

So, (looks at Marrend's name, sees that it's green) that thread isn't stickied, huh?
And while I was thinking of this post, you did the thing and that thread STILL isn't stickied!
Oh yeah, welcome to the thing! :DDDD
I feel out of practice with the welcoming thing, I used to be omnipresent back in the 2008s and so with welcoming whoever presented itself at like 20 Spanish communities. Now I'm old, and bald.

What you're actually seeing on that misao page is the vote count.
for 2020 we had 417 Nominations and 1284 Votes
for 2021 we had 394 Nominations. Unfortunately there's no way to check the vote count for last year, because the voting was done off site. This change in 2021, was in order to start including commercial games in the misaos for the first time on RMN because there excluded from being nominated on the backend of the site. these games included:
The kentona Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Commercial Excellence Nominations
The best game that made the jump from Non-Commercial to Commercial status.
- deluge2k3
- Placebo Love
- Cover Your Eyes
- A Thief's Voyage
- Soma Union
- Divided Reigns
- Starless Umbra
- The Dungeons of Mysteria
Here's a list of games to check out from last year. including the 2021 Nominees - A really cool game that peeps might've missed on was uh BilouConcept - Aircraft 3D by Joke, which was nominated for Best Non-English game. a 3D space shooter entirely done in rpgmaker2003, that's only 5 mins long.

Let us know if this answered your question NNOIZZ ♥
Having said that. 2022 has been kind of awful for life in general this year, so expect the unexpected.

Interest in RPG Maker has inevitably declined over the last decade
I'd say interest in RPG Maker peaked during the horror boom in the early-to-mid 2010s and things have kinda just been shuffling along since that ended. People in broader gaming spaces tend to speak of RPG Maker as a bygone age and nothing less than an Omori-level success really gets people talking about the engine anymore.
We're still here, and it's mostly just us chilled out old people nowadays which is nice in a way.

Hi everyone. There's no notification for responses so I came here manually.
I'd probably join the Discord but yeah people on that platform get weird for some reason.

If you scroll to the bottom, you will find a subscribe button. That's not for the whole site. It's just for this thread. Click it an you'll start getting notifications when someone posts here.
For future reference, there was a check-box above the "I am not a robot" button with the description-text of "Receive notices for replies?" when making topics to auto-subscribe to said topic.

Totally
I was wondering the same thing! Also a newcomer, been posting in the official RPG Maker forums for awhile but now that my game is finally ready for release, I've been looking for communities to share it with! I'll check out the discord and see who's still around!

Eh it comes and goes.
Though I think most of the discussion has moved to Discord and partially YouTube.
