Live-a-Live!
That game was about 15 years ahead of its time.

Oh my goodness, is it ever. Got to the Medieval chapter in one day. I enjoyed Sundown, Chinese monk guy, and Cube's chapters the best.

good example! also terminological error really, any RTS with so much as a heightmap doesn't take place on a flat surface per se. this is dangerously close to a discussion about perception of the game surface on an abstract level though and i'm sure you understand how much i want to avoid such things

It's still on my list to buy, but from what I can gather it's a bit like Homeworld crossed with Civilization where you have to control and manage your empire as well as battle it out. It got good reviews too.

Speaking of RTSs makes me really want to reinstall Total Annihilation though. Probably my favourite even though it came out over a decade ago.
i hope it's as richly detailed as sid meier's games! jesus christ the manuals you get with those things. i still have my thick civilisation II book on my shelf (as well as the big tech tree / unit poster)

edit: sid meier's games! just sounds like sid meier-authored gamedev software. that man has a love for exclamation marks

now im interested, im going to go find a copy online, if i can't then to piratebay it is
I don't really like Sins of a Solar Empire that much. If you could call it Homeworld crossed with Civilization, you'd have to divide your expectations of what that sounds like by two. Of course though, I only have the first one and there's been expansions released. It looks pretty, but there's not much strategic depth in the original package when you actually start playing it.

If you do only play the first, get ready to be murdered by pirates! In the version I own, they are the single strongest force in the game on any map that has them. If they go for an enemy that has the highest AI setting, that enemy will last about five or six waves, if they go against you, get ready for obscene amounts of tough ships before you have any substantial defensive fleet.

stop confusing me
As the only thing I ever buy lately is petrol, alcohol and deodorant I thought I'd buy myself a DS and two games. I don't give a flying fuck about 3D so I'm not waiting for that to come out.

That DS Kingdom Hearts game
Everyone acts like the Organization are villains but I don't see how. All they're doing is trying to become real people again by killing Heartless and releasing their hearts. That sounds fine to me. On the negative side there are a whopping fourteen characters all of which are rather one dimensional but on the plus side only about three of them get any screen time and six of them are killed in like one scene.

Game play is almost the same (they have literally somehow put a Playstation 2 game on a DS) but I can see they have made small efforts to reduce repetitiveness. Such as chaining combos, Panel editing, Missions that let you control different characters and the occasional mini game. Sorting out your Panels are fun and wrong choices can mess you up so some strategy is done outside battle. Magic is just as useless as ever, it's powerful as fuck but it's to awkward too cast when enemies are launching at you left right and centre, so swing Keyblade as fast as you can.

Also Team-mate AI is pretty good and they have infinite Mega potions woo!

Final Fantasy Tactics A2
I'm trying to fight it but this game is going to take over my life just like its predecessor (the other Advance one). I liked the whole Marche against his friends in a story against what's right, wrong and whether Marche was the hero or the villain. This time it's just some kid on his own not really bothered about going home so I don't know how the plot is going to continue. Just shut up Luso I wish a Bangaa was the main character.

I've yet to lose a mission and I'm about six hours in. They've made a fair few improvements on laws and general design so everything you need is viewable on screen, I still can't bring myself to break a law JUST in case. Everything is so deep there is so much to absorb….I'm just…numbers turn me on! There are like a million jobs (not that I've unlocked half of them yet) also, why are they holding back on the two new races? I haven't got any in my clan, I can't recruit any and there's been none in any cut scenes. I know they're in the game somewhere!

I wish I could name my members of my Clan; they all have dumb samey names. I'm at the victory screen and Uthma levels up but who the fuck is that?

I'm going to pick up the new Dragon Quest eventually as eight was amazing. I feel like a better person because I played it.
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (DS)
Assassins Creed (360)
Halo 3 (360)
For some reason I decided to run out and buy the Guild Wars trilogy.

About two hours and a few character sampling I am having something called "Buyers remorse".
I just finished a Furret run on Pokemon Crystal
(Used only one Furret thought the entire game) just beat red and it was SSSSSOOOOOO easy. i now LOVE Ferret.

I recorded the battles against lance and red but youtube is being a cunt and wont upload them

After I bought Dungeon Keeper II, I could never get it to play properly without crashing.

Every few months I would get a hankering to try again, but installing it on my computer downstairs made the game crash often, and the sound was very sputtery.

Finally, after two days of fiddling, I installed it on my laptop - and it works perfectly! I was so happy.

So, after like 10 years or whatever, I finally have the chance to play the sequel to the game that kept me up for hours!
Maybe Final Fantasy 6, maybe Treasure of the Rudras, maybe Tactics Orge, or maybe Bahamut Lagoon. Whichever one strikes my fancy the most.

You know how in Advance breaking the law was the worst thing ever and gave you red cards and took away your shit and shit? Yeah. In A2, breaking the law does nothing. You just can't revive your dudes in the battle, which is a non-issue seeing as if you can make it through the game to the point where you will have to break the stupider laws in favour of time and convenience, you will never be getting killed except in freak situations. Also, you don't get your 'clan powerup' for the rest of the fight, even though i'm still not sure these do anything at all.

I have shifted Luso down to the absolute bottom row of the unit screen and now my first unit is a Bangaa. I always deploy him first so that he'll always be the one talking in the fights, so I can pretend he's the main character. I think I lucked out on names too- his name is LAWRN.

Also the recruiting is BULLSHIT. you have to be in certain places on the worldmap during certain months, and even then, you can't be sure you're going to get anything decent in terms of applicants. There's a whole gamefaqs guide dedicated to the bullshit recruitment process here- I suggest you check it out.

The other races aren't really that great, although having units that can fly over any and all obstacles is WONDERFUL. Shame the Gria classes are a bit mediocre in terms of actual punch.

As per the discussion on Final Fantasy Tactics A2, while you can't sequence break weapons and abilities like you could in the first game, you can still do very fell for yourself with just the right combination of jobs and skills.

How would you like to be able to cast magic that hit every enemy on the screen every turn? And then, later, hit them all with your sword at the same time?

Or, in a game where HP doesn't really get higher than 300 for most of the game, you can do 400 unblockable damage for the price of an x-potion?

I absolutely love it when games make it possible to become awesome through excellent planning.

Man, I loved Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2! The second one is impossible to get to run properly though, I think I had to use some dark voodoo and third party modifications that are probably pretty hard to find now to get it to work way back when I got it. The copy of it I have installed on my main computer right now crashes.
