The default FPS for XP games is 40. Graphics.frame_rate = 60 can change it but the game player itself is so unoptimized it was a great way to make your game unplayable if the CPU couldn't handle it. FPS targets in RM aren't maximums but targets* and by god it's going to show those 40/60 frames even if it takes more than a second to do it. A lot of the backend is tied to an assumption of the target FPS too and it's hardcoded in a million places so changing it properly was a headache. For example I have a 'cheat' script for rm games and XP games lets me adjust the framerate as a cheap global speedup option.

* there's probably better terminology for this but damned if I knew.

That really surprises me since you're on your way to being a professional sprite artist, pizza. Even in turn-based games (not that ToS is one), the fluidity of menus and the flow of animations feels so much better with 60+ FPS. XP games feel so choppy and awkward since I think they're locked to like, 24 or something? Guh.

Higher FPS means better inputs, snappier reactions, and smoother visuals. There's no reason for anything to be 30 or under nowadays =/

Maybe it's just because I don't know fuck all about animation as of yet. I just feel like I'd never really notice the difference between 60/40/30 unless it was a back to back or side by side thing.

Important things tend to get tied to framerate or something

That is awful programming, regardless of console power. Tying anything other than button input (especially animations) to frames means that performance will fluctuate across multiple platforms, even consoles. I didn't get that from Symphonia, but I hear that the PS2 was inferior to the Gamecube in terms of raw processing power, so perhaps that's why the framerate was dropped?

Still no excuse for it not being fixed in the PS3 version.

Right now, I'm super mad that they fixed the exploit to cheese out Colette's Holy Judgment tech. Now I actually have to fight using skill.

I tired Tales of Smyphonia Chronicles on PS3... I forget when it was. It absolutely felt like I was playing a PS2 game, which is something I kinda respected. However, that's also part of the reason I was turned off by it. Like, if I was playing it on a PS2 (or an emulator thereof), I would have the option to use CodeBreaker, and cut the necessary grinding by, well, a significant amount.

I'm probably just being weird.

*Edit: So, I'm somewhere in the middle of original Mass Effect. I'm looking at the off-handed conversations Shepard has with party-members, and thinking I might want something like that (minus romance options) for Nakaishi Wars?

Played an insanely shitty fan game called Kirby: Invaders from the Dark.

Jesus... I appreciate the attempt at making a Kirby fan game, it's no easy task, but good lord I can't ignore the countless things it does wrong. The level design is near-lazy shit, lazier than official Kirby games if you can believe it. Few secrets, straight lines with rows of enemies, boring as balls.

The biggest killer are the physics. Kirby's float is weighed too heavily by gravity and the game in general feels clunky to play. You also can't strike projectiles in anyway, so if an enemy throws something at you while you are performing an ability, you get hit. It made over half the ability roster useless, which is an astounding feat for a Kirby game.

Even worse, bosses and enemies have little to no telegraph to their attacks; they perform actions instantly more often then not, which makes getting hit even more likely due to bullshit. Later levels go into sadistic shit like scattering bombs that you have to be DEAD PRECISE in passing through otherwise they'll explode and you'll take damage. Recovery options are sparse and stuff like spitting stars is way too sensitive in how it collides with objects; try spitting near a ceiling and you'll find that stars will collide with the ceiling WHILE FACING A NARROW, CLEAR CORRIDOR.

Overall, this was a hard Kirby game, and hard for the wrong reasons. It was a chore to play this, and it makes me wish I knew how to program platformers because I seriously want to make my own attempt at a Kirby game. This is one of the VERY few attempts at true Kirby fan games, and it's utter shit. I NEED TO REDEEM THE FANBASE!
Anyone played Soma? Came out awhile ago but i recently played a bit. i'm liking it
Saw a few LPs of it and a stream. Looked pretty bad from what I saw, gameplay-wise.

I'm still playing Stardew Valley. It's still quite entertaining.

I'm still playing Stardew Valley also. There's so much to do. Especially if you aim for 100% completion then missing specific fishes on their respective seasons means you have to play for another in-game year which is dozens of hours more playtime.

Though I don't know how realistic it is to go for full completion while trying to stay away from walkthroughs and guides.
Playing Earthbound on my "New" 3DS. The joy of playing SNES games on a handheld is sooooo nice.

Not those cheap BS SNES ports of games put on GBA/DS. ACTUAL SNES games put on handheld. I wish they've done this years ago. But alas. We can finally enjoy it to the greatest extent.

Now I await FF6 being put on eshop, as well as a few other titles like DKC2/3. Ohh the list goes on.

My New DS will be used strictly for SNES games anyway. XD
are those games only for the New 3DS? or any 3DS?
Only New 3DS. Regular 3DS can't play SNES games.

Yeah, I don't buy the idea that the original model isn't powerful enough to emulate SNES games. I will probably get the new model eventually because I'd like the second nub, but I am in no rush.
Killed the first step-sister in Child of Light. Cinderella should take notes. I unlocked better skills and Aurora lost about 10 years of her life. Maybe Cinderella should not take notes.

I'm going to call foul on some tricks the game pulls. I lost two battles so far, both time due to the same crap. I encounter a boss and interrupt it. The boss then goes all "ahaha, you interrupted me like you have been taught to do, now I'm going to hit you with a party wide slow spell!" and basically punishes me for not letting the boss act unhindered. For those who wonders, interruption works pretty much like cancelling does in the Grandia series.
Brought Rocket League (Finally I have two games for my PS4) and it is every bit as awesome as I thought it would be.

Yeah, I wasn't exactly pleased having to spend more money on another 3DS, you'd think they would've just had the games on the 3DS beforehand but of course not.

But, I'm a sucker for the classics, what can I say? :p

I hate that the new 3DS exists, especially since I got my 3DS shortly before it was announced.
I just finished this really obscure RPG Maker VX game called "The Legacy" by ExplicitGamingX. For some reason, the only references I could find to this game are their own Youtube trailers, a Google Site they made for their games, and my own Youtube video playthrough. Surprisingly, I can't seem to find anything about their game on here or other RPG Maker sites.

Once I find time, I'll probably try The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC.

Beat Jotun last night. Short, but quite beautiful. I really enjoyed it. Up next is either Renowned Explorers or Hand of Fate.

...i also need to play legend of heroes like bugfragged, but i'm trying to avoid traditional rpgs for a bit because bravely second comes out next week
