WHAT VIDEOGAMES ARE YOU PLAYING RIGHT NOW?
Posts
So I finally beat New Super Mario Bros WII, and now im working on beating Kirbys dream collection.
Not a lot of playing lately, mostly just watching my sister playing Wind Waker HD. I forgot how having a full wallet is basically the worst thing in the world in a Zelda game. I also forgot how this game is weird and just gives you your Quiver and Bomb Bag upgrades back-to-back for basically free.
Most of my game playing is occasionally spending about 20 minutes with MAME. I've been really digging Xexex (the JP version - the western version is an abomination), which is basically Konami's crack at the once-popular "I Can't Believe It's Not R-Type" genre. It's really colorful, and some of the environments are pretty damn trippy. The music's fun, too (check out some arrangements!)! Unfortunately, the bosses are really pitiful so far, but then again the furthest I've made it so far is about 3 seconds into stage 4. I'm sure I'll eventually run into one that actually shoots at you or something.
And speaking of Konami...
WTF, you fight the Vic Viper? And it has health? Shouldn't it just die in one hit if it doesn't have a shield, and the real challenge in killing it is actually nailing it's hitbox that could squeeze between the bricks of a wall?

My favourite part so far was the battle with Vic Viper, where I had like 1% health while the enemy had 25%, and I miraculously managed to beat it. It was like Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund

I'm doing a run on White 2 where whenever a Pokemon evolves, the next time I get a gym badge I must deposit the evolved Pokemon. It's to help me diversify my teams and train up all the Pokemon I can to fill up the pokedex faster. In this case, after the third gym I've evolved my purrloin into liepard. When I beat the fourth gym liepard will be deposited and I'll take out another mon. It'll be interesting to see what team I end up with after the eighth.
So many pokemon games. Seems like an interesting light challenge that I could never do since I always play favorites in large-party games.
Just got Assault Android Cactus on sale (finally). Also halfway through Shovel Knight (freaking hard, but engaging) and working on Tristian for Luchino.
OH YEAH AND BRAVELY FUCKING SECOND it's so good. so good. it's everything i wanted out of a sequel and the story is actually? interesting from the get-go? instead of pretending to be run-of-the-mill for ten+ hours? so that's nice.
tiz is cute in every single outfit. it's the worst. (except ranger. i won't be using ranger until i unlock costumes to wear over it. in BD watched the "visiting the caldisla graveyard and crying" scene with tiz in the ranger outfit and it was HORRIBLE)

I love Final Fantasy 9 to pieces but I can tell you clearly when things have gone fucking wrong. Ocean chocograph? WRONG!
Having the player scan the entirety of the ocean for a negligible treasure with their only hint being an indistinguishable stretch of ocean is a level of Strategy Guide selling bullshit that no one should condone. These things can only come about under two logical conditions:
1. Someone was having a shit day and wanted to take it out on the player.
2. Someone figured the excitement of finally finding the treasure would overcome the white hot hatred of having to find it.
Also I missed my only chance to get the Mini Prima Vista achievement because I didn't have the previous knowledge to leave Treno, go through South Gate (which is usually locked, btw) and return to Dali to get the third and final cup of coffee for the old guy on the mountain observatory. I was 24 hours in when I realized I had made my fatal mistake.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The chocograph in the ocean did have a small reef though. It's probably easier to see in the PC version!
I'm playing Dark Souls 3, and have only managed to prove to myself that no matter how bad they are, the Game Grumps are better at video games than me.

Actually, back in the day I found the treasure by my own, and I didn't have a guide or internet (I got very late to the internet party).
When I first saw that chocograph for the first time I thought "What the hell!", but then I took only about 30 minutes to find it... not that hard, we're just spoiled in this day and age by FAQs and Walkthroughs.
The Witcher 3 supposedly has great storytelling and characters, but so far all that I've encountered has been a boring side-quest laden world. Geralt is about as interesting as an old bit of gristle for a protagonist. The writing and dialogue doesn't seem especially well written so far... so I don't know what all the hype is about. It's undeniably pretty, but so what?
Also played Fallout 4 but became detached from the main story and from the characters. Character interactions with the PC felt forced and artificial. They ARE artificial of course, but they just weren't very convincing or interesting. Also not impressed by the recycling of music from the previous two games. Would've been way cooler to have a completely new selection of old music on the radio.

author=suzy_cheesedreamsI was also scammed into wasting a lot of time playing TW3 after hearing about how amazing the writing and quests are. I'm convinced that everyone who's going gaga over it has only ever played like... Skyrim before, because the writing and quest design are terrible. You might be thinking that it gets better later, but they actually front-loaded all of the best content in the game into the first few quests, so if you're not enjoying it now, you're not going to like it much more later.

A forced ten hour long series of fetch quests eventually led me to giving up on the game. It's a shame that it sucks so much, because the worldbuilding and atmosphere are actually really fantastic. It has a sense of place that no other RPG I've played has, and you can tell the art team was really passionate about bringing this vivid vision to life, but it's all wasted on a mediocre game where 80% of your time is spent running from quest marker to quest marker and the other 20% is doing MMO fetch quests when you get there.
Some of us quite like quests and thus very much enjoyed the game. X3
Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I found the writing to be quite interesting and the game was fun.

Playing Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It's as fun as I remember it.
I wonder, though, do the sequels measure up? This is the only M & L game I've ever played.

I played that one and the DS ones.
Partners in Time is also good but the weakest entry when compared with the other two.
Bowser's Inside Story is VERY good, but not as good as Superstar Saga.
I'd still recommend all of them if you enjoyed the first one.
All this in my opinion, obviously :P
Been playing a bit of Melty blood AACC off and on since its release on steam. Even though it wasnt the first version I played, I'm reminded as to why I love this game so much.
45 hours into Bravely Second. I'm enjoying throwing cake at enemies.
I beat Shovel Knight. It makes me want to break things but it's sooo good. Probably my second-favorite PC platformer now (first is Dust: An Elysian Tail).
More Tristian now, and soon Assault Android Cactus.

Seeing Sailerius give a thumbs down to a game pretty much tells me "This game is good, so you should check it out".
I'm playing...

"i see pain in your future!"

....what?
It's a joke based on how the Vic Viper performs in the Gradius series. Actually, I don't know if it is a joke, but the Gradius part I'm sure of. Heck, the Vic Viper in ZotE 2 even has options like in Gradius.
Haha, yeah, I was making Gradius jokes. I'm assuming it's just a robot with the name and that you don't actually just randomly fight a space ship. Though, apparently ZOE2 does have this...
Gotta love how shameless Konami was at times with referencing their IPs.
