My 'somebody talking shit about FF6' alarm went off. What's the meaning of this?
Don't make me ban you, Craze.
Craze broke my heart a little in this thread. I worship FF6. :(

I think today I might have the courage to continue XV. I'm on like Chapter 7 still. I mightyass well finish what I started.
To be fair, FF6 did have some issues with it, but it was a great game non-the-less. I wouldn't have wanted it on PSX though - the port over was painful enough with those loading times, just imagine how much worse it would have been being made on the platform. Say what you will about how great the RPG library for PSX is, but those loading times really hurt (same with some games on PS2, sadly).

That aside, I forgot how fun this game is. Just got past the massage minigame. I, uh, well, I mean it was certainly something. Not quite as bad as I remember it but still quite... something. XD

God, her clothes are so weird though. I don't care about how much skin they show off but they're really not conducive to moving around and treasure hunting. What in the world were they thinking beyond "cool design, show more skin tho"? XD

If there was one thing that weirded me out about X-2, it was Brother, and his convulsions. Or maybe it was break-dance moves? I could never really tell.

Paine is awesome, though.
Brother is... well, he's very excitable at the least. Yeah, I can see why he'd weird people out. He is weird. XD

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

At least he's currently a member of the "Final Fantasy Committee" which was formed in 2013 to watch over new FF games and make sure the series doesn't get any worse. Also on the team are the directors of FF13, FF14:A Realm Reborn, and FF Type 0. Tetsuya Nomura is not, though, for some reason. My theory is that this team was created specifically to stop Tetsuya Nomura from ruining the FF7 remake too badly.
Welp. Yoshi-P and whoever did Type-0 definitely deserve a seat on that. If the director of FF13 is the same as the director of 13-2 and LR, I can stomach that. While I enjoyed FF13, I wouldn't really call it a great game. The other two were great fun though.
Yeah, it's the same guy. I know because of his extremely embarassing press conference that he called one time just so he could spent 45 minutes talking about how Lightning was his waifu and he'd fallen in love with her.

Is Type-0 worth playing? I bought it and then played it for about an hour and a half, and then quit. It struck me as really, really bad. The intro FMV had so much promise, with the blood and the drama and the politics and the death and the intrigue, and then as soon as the game started all of that just completely vanished and got replaced by sparkling magical anime teenagers in school uniforms, devoid of any personality or even names. I couldn't take it, I felt lied to, and I quit forever. The gameplay was basically okay and I might keep playing it if I knew it got good later.

My understanding is that a lot of things about XV changed far too late in development than reasonably workable. Rumor has it that a lot of the story and cutscenes were scrapped, or cut and put into Kingsglaive to recuperate some of the massive budget that this game was costing SE.

Having put close to 50 hours into XV at this point, it's very clear that most of the development time was put into Lucis (The continet for Chapters 1-8, and the postgame) and they just ran out of time as far as everything else was concerned.

This whole "running out of time" thing has happened with three fairly big games that I played a lot of this year: MGSV, FFXV and Star Ocean 5. I wonder what the reason for it is? Unavoidable scope creep? Poor project management? Both?

Not knowing anything about FF in general and getting my hands on Type-0 for around 1 hour, from what i remember it was pretty fun! Honestly i don't remember much but i know that i liked the different characters, if one character anoyed you then fine! Just switch to the other. But if i had to chose my favorite final fantasy i don't think it'd be this one.

The thing about these new games is that the post game is pretty repetitive. The strong point of these games are the story (as far as rpgs go) and the gameplay goes well with the story BUT, it doesn't really feel good alone. Imo the post game should add bits of the story like "what did they become?" or "What is he gonna do now?" nothing too fancy but still something more rewarding then just slashing your way trough a bunch of boring tough bosses with no rewards other then items or gold that you will never use again. But they want to make the maximum profit so they don't do that and probably will never again.
My current play list

SMT 4
SMT 4 Apocalypse
Xenoblade Chronicles
Dragon Quest 8
Majora's Mask
Dragon Quest 5

I have so many games I'm trying to juggle between its a mess lol.

I got about 4-5 hours in and it doesn't change much, other than some weird feature creep. It introduces a bafflingly pointless world map which houses random encounters that don't really fit with the structure of the game, and some confusing RTS missions.

Other than that, the game isn't terribly interesting unless you really like the psuedo-MonHun gameplay. I think people only really got hyped about it because it went unlocalized for so long.
Okay, so I finished VA-11 Hall-A last night. It was great. Lemme grab the review I wrote for it:

I'm not one of those people who enjoy Visual Novels that much, In fact, initially I wasn't aware the game was a VN - I stumbled onto it by accident, liked the look and thought it was a bar simulator (which I guess it kinda is, too). So I was surprised to find that I actually fell into the world of VA11 Hall-A and stayed there until the end - an accomplishment for me.

The sound design, the graphics, the writing... all of these things were highly polished and highly enjoyable. The gameplay was simplistic but refreshing (though I would have preferred a click-based interface for the ingredient-adding instead of drag-and-drop. Those big drinks were killing me!)

The graphics really helped sell the feel of the setting of the bar of VA-11 Hall-A. They were chill and classy and the small details like clicking through the TV channels or how the character sprites animated subtly (in some ways, not-so in others) really made the place feel -real-. The characters were the main selling point of the game, their designs interesting and lovely, really helping to give them the feel of 'this is not your usual VN character'.

Indeed, the writing was what really shone when it came to setting up the characters and the world they lived in. There were very few spelling/grammar mistakes through-out it, and the characters were very well written and interesting. They touched on many different facets of living in a society that is corrupt, futuristic, fatalic, open- and close-minded. The character interactions, the way they talked and expressed themselves really helped sell the game as a fresh experience.

You won't find your typical Japanese Harem-type characters in the game, though you will find such charmers as a large-breasted (and hearted) hacker, a sex-bot with the appearance of a child (who is extremely sweet and lovable), a cinnabun with more than enough muscles to bench-press yo ♥♥♥ and many, many more.

The best character, by far, is Jill, the main character herself. Through her observations and interactions the other characters come to life. She is flawed but pithy, silly but serious, intelligent but self-effacing and all manner of awesome. She has faults, she has issues and she is one of the more interesting characters in a game filled with very interesting ones.

The sound design is the last thing I'll touch on and mainly because this game is the only one whose soundtrack I would purchase in a heartbeat. I don't buy soundtracks (in fact, the last one I got was Suikoden II's vocal soundtrack and that was a Christmas present from about... 2000?) so for me to say such a thing is quite an endorsement. The music is so on-point and fun - there's a huge selection and it all fits the atmosphere of the game very well. There are mellow tunes and swinging tunes and more than a few tunes that will be stuck in your head for days.

Lastly I want to reiterate that I am not a fan of Visual Novels by any stretch of the imagination. There are some that I have played and enjoyed (Black Closet/A Little Lily Princess/This is the Police) but usually they have some sort of extra gameplay attached to spice them up and make them more interesting (in my book). In fact, I'm one of those people who are not likely to play a game like this one more than once, so I highly appreciate the New Game + mode that it offers, as well as the fast-forward text skipping. Kudos for that!

Anyway, what I'm saying is, if you like Visual Novels and good writing and great visuals and awesome sound in any way, shape or form, getting this game is far from the worst thing you could do. Even if you, like me, don't enjoy Visual Novels all that much.

I mean, I don't really like VNs and I don't play them for myself unless they have something else to offer outside of just reading and choosing - and even then, not really my thing, but this game was great. So great. And the music is so good.

FF Type-0 is a game where every single NPC's dialogue changes in your (very large) hub after every story mission, including your own party which you can run around and find lounging around. Taking certain characters to certain places and talking to everybody will gradually unravel the actual plots of the game.

If you just bum rush Type-0, it's a weird brawler rpg where you sacrifice children to summon espers to fight a war. If you take your time with it, you'll be uncovering information about the characters in the intro, learning about and exposing rebels planted within your headquarters, spying on the woman who selected you to be children of war, and liberating cities from enemy control.

It has an incredibly non-traditional method of storytelling. If you want to learn more, you'll have to find the stories as you progress the main war narrative. I found it very rewarding to do so. The supposedly simple characters you slam into enemy soldiers are actually quite interesting.
That actually sounds like my cup of tea, since I like talking to everyone and checking everything out in a game. I might have to get a copy when I've got some extra cash.

Started playing Let It Die (a bit late, I know). It's a free to play always-online roguelike from Suda51/Grasshopper Manufacture with Souls-like gameplay. Well, sort of. There's no locking on that I can tell, so combat is always extremely clumsy feeling, and at the same time, it seems like your attacks have about half the range that the animations imply they should, so it's overly precise too.

Fortunately, it is infectiously weird, and worth seeing for that reason alone. And hey, it's free!

@Craze - Dang, now I am like 32% Jealous that I can't play FFT-0.

As for me I JUST finished Shions (and my final) route for the game Akiba's Trip. The game has a strange amount of Longevity for a game of it's type. In so many other games, the things it does would be flaws, but here they are simply charming. It's not only fun, but a goofy sort of fun.

You find yourself wanting to do every side-mission. You'll see someone walking down the street with a brand new pair of pants and be like "I hope you're a Synthister because those pants are MINE." you'll find yourself always challenging yourself to chain-strip huge groups of enemies to make sure you get their underwear. Without even noticing, you've turned yourself into a suit-wearing, baseball bat wielding, pantomiming defender of Akiba, with your zombie-walking drunken boxer sidekick with a giant parking sign for a weapon.

I think that's where so much of the charm comes from - the amount of customizing. You can change almost anything. You can change your main character model to be any one else in the game - and the voices change with it! Each weapon has it's own moveset, and the amount of clothes you can get and upgrade is just staggering.

I may have finished the game, but I think Akiba's Trip is going to be one of those games I'm never done with for long.

Did you guys know that Mark of the Ninja is really really good?
I cleaned out my closet and threw a bunch of stuff away the other day, and while doing so I found an old DS I forgot I had, and started playing Dragon Quest IX. It's pretty amazing. I love just running around grinding in it.

And then after hearing about Final Fantasy Record Keeper I decided to download it and give it a shot. Bear in mind, I almost never game on my phone. I enjoy handhelds, but I simply don't like gaming on my phone.

This game, though... FFRK is really something. At first when it started out, I thought it felt weak, like a too-easy knockoff FF game. Well, I was pretty wrong about that. Apparently when you start, you get a nice catch-up weapon to help you gain a few levels quickly. Then, when you start taking on some challenging enemies, things change. You go from having a throw-together party and inventory, to carefully planning your party members, choosing their equipment and ability load-out (and I'm about to start fiddling around with the Soul Breaks too, which I hear are essential to master for current content).

There's tons of events going on for it with lots of new stuff being added constantly, it seems. I haven't played for very long, and initially I didn't care for the game, but once I started picking up a few levels and taking on tougher dungeons, I'm hooked. It's a legit battle arena game.
So I've seen some gameplay from World of Final Fantasy and... I wanna stack baby behemoths on my head! :<

Why, in this day and age, are games locked to consoles? Here's hoping it eventually comes to PC.

BECAUSE I WANNA STACK BABY BEHEMOTHS ON MY GODDAMN HEAD!

was playing ff15 but it's kinda trash but nomura's treasure there are 100 games in this community at least better than that swill and I can't go back to mmos so I'm going to pretend to make games instead

the game literally has no soul in its art direction, menu design...anything really. it is as sterile as an 80s hair metal standard. nomura was better when he had limitations (like all artists except cinematographers and porn stars)

seriously who thought that battle system was any good you just push one button to attack chain and then another button to block sometimes and then you get magic but they somehow made acquiring it even more tedious than ff8 and this game just feels really tedious and irritating and let's be real here true open world is overkill for ff the best balance between linearity and exploration was ff6, 7 8, 9, and 12 with 13 being laughably linear and 10 being semi-laughably linear and 14 being somehow just as linear as ff13 even though its a good mmo

the best final fantasy in the last 11 years is ff14 which is saying something but oh wait there's only been 3 anyway because it takes them ages to make games these days

and then there's the business of overwatch in which they buff symmetra to absurd levels where she can basically left click and spam spacebar to 1v1 anyone in the game and don't even get me started on d.va blizzard is gonna fellate the hero representing the nation that put them on the map

people still play skyrim apparently because that game is amazing and the gold standard of open world games because i lose my nerd card if i dont say that

xenoblade chronicles x looks decent but I sold my wii u for mexican food money 1 dollar per taco on tuesdays and you can get a side of rice for 2.50

I did play bravely default but that game was just a little too default for my tastes and I remember having a serious beef with the characters for some reason I can't do the whole anime thing anymore can't even play the star ocean games due to anime archetypes and the cheesy anime voice actors and stuff and dont even think i could sit through xenosaga again even though that was my high school sweetheart

what made xenoblade so good was that the grpahical limitations of the wii sorta forced the developers to get more creative with the visuals and of course naturally allocate their budget to other areas like i don't know gameplay design but I honestly would not mind a ps4 remake of that game just port the gameplay and spend a few million overhauling the graphics does that make me a hypocrite

what made ff12 so good was that it tried so hard to be star wars and failed so bad that you had to give it a pity play and it ended up having some pretty awesome gameplay depth and beautiful, nicely laid out and colorful areas to explore. colors are everything except black huehuehue im clever. ff15 has like 3 colors in its palette throughout the entire open world...whats the point

a lot of effort went into ff15 but that is exactly the problem too much effort to the point of sterility cook a stew too long and you are left with fluid even if you are frickin gordon ramsay

get off my lawn

now i get why shmup typed how they typed we all need to be pretentious sometimes it can be theraputic

also square's head was so far up their round rectum with ff15 that you have to watch some anime and movie to get the plot of the game that (and which) is stupid i mean rogue one and a new hope are linked but mutually exclusive
