BOSS ONLY STYLED GAME

So I had an idea that Ive been working on for a project. It's inspired by the game Shadow of the Colossus, and the idea's that I use from it is that my project has no monster encounters. So to grow stronger and defeat bosses you have find their weakness, get better equipment, find quest, ect... anyways, I was wondering what people might think of my idea and also if someone might want to work with me on it.

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

People have made games before, so do something else, huh?
I know it sounds like something thats been done, but believe me, this one will be by far different for a RM2k/3 game.

besides that, what do you think about it, besides that people have done it before

Games is much broader, and I only play games that are really original in some way or multiplayer.

So I guess your preferences aren't really a good gauge to recommend to what others should do.

ON TOPIC: Yeah, if you think that would be a good idea, go for it, but I'd like to hear more on it.
More info? like a actual story line?

and as for it being different, its kinda different from a regular RM2k/3 game. cause you have a battle with the boss. but you have to find either the weakness or destroy it off bit by bit, not just lower the health of it to nothing.
Lay it all on us, everything you have in mind from the story to the gameplay. Of course you can just summarize it for us.
ok, basic storyline. you and your mate/partner and travlers and have travled from land to land in search of a better study of the world. When you enter this new land your partner falls ill and soon passes away. In mourning you pray at a near-by church when a half crazy preist offers his guidness. the preist poses you go and defeat nine beast of power around the land, and once defeated you use their combined power to bring back your partner.

Game play is mostly walking and then battle. to grow stronger you by new weapons or scrolls. to pay for these you can do verious quest for people of the land. there are four classes, the Warrior, the Archer, the Mage, and the Skillist. the first three are simple but the skillist is my favorite, he has average skills but can use any skill if he has the card for it. plus your not stuck as one class, so you can do what you need to do defeat the bosses
What engine are you going to use for this?

EDIT:
Damn if it were VX I'd wanna help, but I'm done with 2k/3 now. It's so limited without scripting ...
I honestly think the story sounds solid. "Friend dies, Kill a bunch of beast, revive friend" Except for, how will killing the beasts bring your friend back? It's something you could easily, and even quickly, fix. But, yeah, it sounds great. I sure would give it a try.

That sounds to Shadow of the Colossus-sy. I know it's inspired by it, but It seems too much like it
I know what you mean, but Ive had friend check over all my notes on my idea and have comfirmed that there similar, but not by that much. Hopfully when I design it, the project wont be too much like SotC

Hate to break it to you homeslice, but that sounds almost exactly like SotC.
I know, Believe I know, and then if its too much like SotC i'll just make a fan game, but I gave a pretty basic outline, so wait till the actual game-play
What's stopping you from changing the story around? You can easily keep the game play. There are so many games where there is a quest sending you to several different places in order to collect/defeat something. Why does it have to be a partner to be saved? Why is there so much want to revive someone when an illness is a very natural thing?

Why not, instead of a partner that needs to be revived it could be: A town full of ghosts that want revenge, OR maybe the main character's a greedy ass hunter who wants to kill these giant animal bosses for money but in the end realizes that he's doing something very wrong, OR maybe the bosses could be evil machines spreading a toxic gas through-out the world and you're the only person with a gas mask and balls to stop them, OR whatever..

Just throwing in some ideas.

As the story sounds now, it is a SotC fangame. Nothing wrong with that, just embrace it if you're not looking to come up with a new story and would rather focus on the gameplay (which is what this is all about).

It sounds like the story is only meant to drive the necessity of your gameplay. If that's the case, and you don't want to have a story similar to SotC, then consider using someone else's idea for a story (so that you can focus on making the game fun).

This is what my idea for the game is, So i'm thinking of changing the storyline to beating the monsters for the power they hold. The main reason I really wanted to make this game is for the actual battles. Because it would only be boss battles and there is only about nine, this drives me to make the most challenging and spectacular battle I can.

I think you have a very good basic idea and should run with it, so long as you have the drive to follow it through to completion. What you are doing is pretty ambitious. SoTC was a great game, but it had some glaring flaws, like repetitive gameplay. (Actually, that's only a flaw in my opinion, some people like that.) If you want to succeed in that project, you really need to move beyond your basic idea and make sure that each boss battle is something different.

Now this part is to you in response to some of the other things said. If you want to make your game extremely similar to SoTC, my advice is do it. Grab your inspiration where it comes from. If your muse only helps you copy and derive from other people's work, then there is nothing wrong with that. Granted, some people here, and elsewhere, may not take you seriously, but you can get past that by making a truly great game with a great story. Don't be limited or dictated by others' opinions. Your muse only answers to you.

Anyway, you have a great idea, and if you follow it through to the end, I'll definitely play it.
This style has already been used and it is nothing special about it.
