You disgust me. You remind of those fresh recruits who didn't know what CBS was or even CMS meant. You're the same kind of person who doesn't know the exact size of a charset frame unless he went into paint and counted the pixels. You're the same kind of person who can't even position a picture without having hit the test play button until your random numerical guesses were correct. You're the same kind of person who can't put RESPLENDENT POWER INTO YOUR WORK IN HONOR OF THE MISAOS. Do you know how much money and fame you get from a misao? Huh? Take a guess. Don't know? Get out. Just, get out.

You removed my two favorite categories, protagonist and villain. Booo urns! Put them back!
Also...it is rather vague if some of the categories should be nominations for games or game designers?

...worst case of vaporitis ? ???
Overhyped, promising, interesting ideas, but never even made it to the demo stages. I think.
Shouldn't the GOY be limited only to completed games? If so, there should be another award just for Demos ... That way, you would actually reward those who actually COMPLETED their games, because it would be sad if a Demo were EVEN nominated for the GOY. Sadly, there are many demos, but few complete games ... What don't you guys think about this?
A "Most Promising Demo" as a separate category doesn't make much sense to me. If the demo was really good, it would win one of the other awards. Most of the games that get released are demos anyway, so its a little silly to discriminate.
I think getting rid of the character categories while adding sound is rather silly. If we are getting so specific we might as well add best face art and interface art and a whole bunch of other mumbo jumbo. Also, not many games apply to best sound, either.
As for demo/completion status - in the past there has been a best completed games category, but honestly most people paid attention to the game of the year category. I am not sure if it is worth the bother to repeat it.

I say we should bring Best Protagonist and Best Antagonist back. I like April's Child's idea of adding Most Promising Newcomer.
We are trying to avoid maker-based awards. All of the awards are targetted towards games, and not specifically the people who make them.
Anywho, what I am hearing is:
-Change it back to what it was before!! (back to Music & Sound, restore Villain and Protag!)

I just don't see why a half-finished game should get "Best RPG" or whatever. For all we know, the unfinished parts of the game could be completely shit!
At last, somebody that sees my point on the debate of Demos vs. Completed games for the Misaos. I am aware that to actually complete a game (yes, even the not so good ones!), it requires a certain quality that some of you seem to lack. This explains why less than 10% of the games posted in RMN are actually complete (Can somebody actually explain why this is so and what can be done to change this?).
Encouraging people to produce mostly Demos that become projects that get CANCELLED, are NEVER released or take a LONG time to be released as a complete game is something that doesn't make sense. Especially if you consider or award one of them with one of the major awards, such as GOY, IMHO. For some of the other awards, I don't see as much of an issue for the Demos, if the work merits the award or nomination.
Sorry if I ticked somebody off, but I'm pretty sure some of you will happen to agree with this argument, especially those who have actually released complete games and would like to see their efforts rewarded.
I believe that only completed games should be eligible for such awards, and that demos or cancelled games should be restricted to awards pertaining only to demos and such.
Why is it feasable to give an unfinished game an award such as "Game Of The Year" when you haven't even seen fully what it offers? It could decline in quality as the end draws near for example. There's also a chance it may be cancelled.

Well, if a DEMO of a game is good enough to be considered for a GOTY, what does that say about the completed games? Just because a game is completed it doesn't automatically make it better.
I sort of agree with you Kentona, but what I am saying is sort of like... Ugh, trying to explain it... What if the demo itself is good and takes GoTY, but then knowing that they bagged that, the creator does a real half assed job on everything else.
Say it was a one hour demo. That means one hour is real good, and the rest not so...

author=Dark Gaia link=topic=2892.msg57249#msg57249 date=1232509000You can't judge a game on what's not there. There is no "What if" scenario.

Though I wouldn't mind a separate category for demos and completed games. RPG Atelier does this on their website and forum. They have a Complete Game of the Year, and a Demo of the Year (I forgot to mention they also have Editors Choice and Player's choice). It works out quite well, and there is a good list of games from both categories.
No, you should judge it on if it's a blast to play and is superior to the other games in its category. In my example, you are creating negatives that don't exist. That's not to say that it's possible for it to crumble afterwards, but you still have to judge on what's available at that instant.
Full Game of the Year.
Demo of the Year.
Pretty simple.
