CHARACTER SKETCHES [RALLE & LYRA]

Just some character sketch progresses for Ralle and Lyra from Lyra's Melody and Quintessence as I struggle through them. I'm still pretty early into the stages though, so not much is done. :x
1. First concept sketch done for the upper bodies:
2. Update - Lyra with face:
3. Update - Lyra full body sketch:
Finished a little full body sketch of Lyra (Ralle's is still in the works). Clothing looks a bit plain now, I'll try to add some decorations later. She'll also be wearing a locket as a necklace, which contains little pieces of paper and a pencil. (For written communication in case of emergency and Ralle's not around, since she's completely deaf.)
A couple of screenshots with some 5-minute mock-ups just for fun and seeing a preliminary result for motivation:
Still need to edit the sprite a bit here and there, since parts of them don't match too well (e.g. Lyra's hair side bangs). I haven't drew in a long time, so I've been struggling to get things right, especially when it comes to perspectives. Inking a real outline's going to be hell. :-X

, Reives. You can draw too?! What can you NOT do...
I'm kind of speechless though. All I can say is keep up the great work, the sketches look well done!

Mmm, my suggestion? Try to reduce the size a bit when putting them in game?
Taking up the whole side of a screen is a bit much.

@Verifyed:
Football? :p Mm, I try to do a bit of everything but I'm not very efficient. It takes way too long and depend a lot on trial-and-error. Always good fun, though!
@Karsu:
Yeah, that's very true. I might either shrink it, or shrink and line its bottom up with the dialogue box' top instead just layering under it. I may be able to get away with the huge pics just for the first scene though, to give a better visualization. Will have to be careful for consistency issues though.

Yeah I disagree with this a lot. Plenty of games use colorful, large portraits in that style.
Mm, in the end I think I'm going to just use it like in the screenshot for more important scenarios, and a smaller version that's over-the-box for normal convos (partly due to it's a bit of a hassle to handle it in the current style in long convos). Depends a lot on context I suppose, so still kinda hard to say for me. c:
Wow, these are amazing! Please make sure to keep updating!
Seriously, let me know when a demo is released for Lyra's Melody.

Thanks. c': There probably won't be a demo for Lyra's Melody for a long long time. Chapter 11 of my main project actually more or less includes its (optional) prologue, as you get to go to its starting town where the LM's main characters are still kids.
Here's another WIP progress - really struggling with the cloth's shading, pretty much a hit-and-miss thing now:

The proportions and lighting already look dead-on.
Nice job! I don't see a problem with the size unless they are obstructing cutscenes.

Thanks guys. :)
I'm struggling with the eyes a bit now. If I get too frustrated I'll just leave it like this:

She's uh, cross-eyed. Verily.
Look at real people's eyes to see what makes them attractive. That'll help you a lot. If you don't want to do that, I suggest at least centering them.

I meant that picture as a (failed) joke. :sadface: I'd hope I can at least do a bit better than 2 black dots even if the positions were serious, heheh.
