But remember these are the rantings of some random forum user and not some guy who thinks he knows best, thank you all and happy RPG making... toodles.
Actually those are the rantings of one of the fastest game makers in the RM community, which gives you quite a bit of credibility.

Even though a vast majority of those games were crap. I rushed my stuff too much which is the big reason why they turned out to be crap.
I've been making RPGs since I was like 12 (more than 15 years ago) and completed only my first RPG this past month. I also have happened to complete my second RPG about 10 days later.
Mind you, my first dabblings with RPGs was all pen & paper. I didn't start to use RM2k/3 until about 2002...

I started HR in April 2006. Chapter 5 was begun in earnest in November 2008 (and makes up roughly 50% of the game).
If I didn't take all those hiatuses, HR would've taken me about...9 months?

I don't know bro, having 4-5 complete RPG games is still ridiculous regardless of their quality. If you were to make an awesome/epic game now, you'd probably get it done faster than most people would.
Around 50% of Fenrir: First Operation was made December 23rd and 24th, whilst visiting my mother for the Christmas holidays. All I'll say is that with my step father and little brother arguing like immature brats, my mother trying to get everyone to just get along, and the dogs barking away due to the raised voices, my shitty laptop with RM2k3 on suddenly became a lot more attractive!
In fact, around 90% of that game was made whilst visiting my mother, the other 10% whilst at a friend's. Maybe I should go out more, and take my laptop with me?
On the other hand, I have three or four projects I'm working on on my PC. A PC I'm usually either browsing the net with, gaming on, doing coursework on, or unable to use because my girlfriend is currently addicted to The Sims 2. Some of those projects haven't been touched in a month! (Some of them are also a tad ambitious)
Add in that when I'm not at Uni, I'm at work, or with my girlfriend/ friends/ family and you see how I can procrasinate so much.

One should not RPGMake for the goal of the RPG. Rather, one must realize that the best life exists in the act of making in and of itself. To strive is nobler than to achieve, to reach is nobler than to touch.
They probably have the games going for a few months or a year. I once posted 4 games on another site in 2 days. They thought all 4 games were made in 2 days, when they were really made over 4 years.
Illussion.

The penultimate secret is ONLY START WHAT YOU CAN FINISH.
Be reasonable in your scope.
Scope has nothing to do with it! The True Ultimate Penultimate Secret-to-end-all-secrets of completing games quickly is:
PERSISTENCE
Never give up, no matter how long it takes! Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.
