YOUR GAME SUCKS

The only thing we can do is play survival of the fittest. All the other communities will eventually fall. RMN will become a super community. We will elect a dictator everytime our current one falls. We will live in a highly excited state of overstimulation.

There's only one way for people to stop sucking at making games, and that's to practice and improve. Which is what we're all doing here already! The n00bs get weeded out by the game making process, and only the ones who persevere come out alive on top!

I would really like to see an RPG that chronicles the unfolding tale of a beautiful yuri love. The romantic yuri demographic is very underrepresented in RPGs (Role Playing Games) and as it stands are even an endangered species.

I know. The community needs to be more integrated as a whole, but it just seems so unlikely.

That is part of the problem; the community also sucks and there is no way it can be fixed unless all of the major sites merge... but they also hate each other, so.

This. Seriously.

Trying to make a rather epic game myself I know exactly what you mean Craze and I agree with your point. It probably would be a smarter idea to release it episodic or just scale it down especially if you haven't released any prior. But I want to make an epic game. There have been a few very successful epic RPGs like Onyx, Legacies Of Dondoran, Demon Legacy and more recently Heroes Realm and the amount of achievement the authors must feel from sticking with it all that time and getting done must be great and they've all just inspired me more to continue.

But if I didn't think I couldn't make an epic RPG I wouldn't bother. There's no time limit, so if it takes you a few years, then it takes you a few years. People, myself included can be quite stubborn in this community and if making an epic RPG is a mistake, let them find out the hard way - or maybe they'll just be able do it.

I would love to create a twenty-hour-long epic, but with my lifestyle it really isn't possible. I have a quite a few periods of free time, but when I get involved with something (drama production, camp counseling, public speaking competitions) it eats up months of time where I don't work on projects. When I return from the hiatus, I can't work on the same project again, no matter how well I organized it.

Do other people have this problem?

Can't say that I do. There are occasions when I can't find the drive or time to work on my RPGs, but I usually use those times for brainstorming and all the stuff you can't do while on the computer. My game making is a process that runs through everything I do, whether it's related to RPG Maker or not.

I'm returning to working on PH4 soon, and it's been almost a year since I even touched the damn thing. But, I still know what's next, and I still have my plans. I might have to figure some stuff out again, but that's the price I pay. It'll get done when it gets done.

I think the ability to come back from a long hiatus is just as much a part of indie game making as the rest of it. Although I wouldn't say shorter projects suffer from such things as much as large ones.

This seems to be a philosophical difference, not a personal one. You've got your dedicated nerds who are all about making games and playing RM games, then you've got your somethingawful wannabe /b/tards who claim rpgmaking is outdated and useless and the people who have it as a hobby should get a life.

Don't go there pal
I agree with Griever, Gameplay is extremely important to me and in most of the games I have played there just isn't enough Gameplay to keep me interested. That's why in my next game I will include a custom battle system or CBS for short.
I actually make more survival horror games like Silent Hill than RPGs. I've only made two RPGs versus over five horror games I've released over the years.

I make epic RPGs to tell a story. Unfortunately, to tell an "epic" story in a game, the only way it can be done is through the epic RPG style, after all, a dungeon crawler for example couldn't tell a Lord Of The Rings esque fantasy story.

..damnit Craze.. I was going to say that.
I think WIP meant making a game IN 20 hours, not making a 20 hour long epic. It definitely shows that some of us (myself included) need to try streamlining our development.
Yeah, even though four hours isn't such a bad length, I couldn't disagree more with the first post. Whenever I read about a game on RPG Maker Network or some other website and it's slated to be a 'casual, short game', there's a 99% chance that I'm going to click back. I want something with meat, and despite what anyone says, games that are lengthy and completed are very rare. I want more Legion Sagas, Starless Umbras, Legacies of Dondorans (Well, I am getting more of these since there's going to be a sequel :P), Laxius Powers, Epochs, Demon Legacys, Phantasias, The Ways, Clouded Hearts, Fable of Heroes, etc.
