http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/3235/locker/worldmap.pngGot bored, did more world map work. It's a little big for the forum so just a link. The hide function doesn't work apparently.
Impressive, Lennon. I like what you've done with the trees.
I dunno. It looks like it could be very confusing to wander about. Unless the player has very specific direction it looks like they could get lost easily. Just my opinion though.
I thought about that, but when you really think about it, we're spoiled nowadays by recent RPGs that don't have a world map, and just sort of DIRECT you where to go. Remember back in the day in overworld world maps where we wandered around where to go, or just to look for new shit?

Yes, I made sure that this isn't the case. Most of the world map is made to house optional things to do, and the story route doesn't require you to cover much land in between areas, nor does it give you anything a but a very linear path in between them. You see, when you get to a certain point (A certain city) you can buy rides on a zeppelin to take you to larger routes through the world map, housing the optional things.
What I'm getting at is it's like you select a 'route', then go explore it, having the story route already opened.
There is also the solution of 'the next town is east of here' assuming the player has a basic grasp of cardinal directions.
Well yeah. Even though I'm trying to have those paths I still try to make different places to go within them.
Hmm, interesting...
Is that gradient thing supposed to be a staircase going upward? I don't really know, cause it looks like more of something you'd have going downward into a wall sort of, just the way it looks and starts to blend. Although it could be just that given where it is.

I faced it that way so my sense of spacial orientation would let me use a one-tile staircase, instead of having it three tiles long or something.
OK here's some screens from my game. Props to Mr. Nemo for helping me out with chipsets:
Dark 'n gritty

An abandoned house

And a stats screen for good measure

The stats screen darkens the background when it's displayed, because it happens to be night at the point when I brought up the menu it basically turns pitch black. Might need to fix that.
@Chaos: That looks like it should be in the Action 52 game. Yeah good job..

I'm unfamiliar with Action 52.
