..:: RELEASE SOMETHING! DAY VII ::..

..:: June 20th, 2009 ::..
This is the new discussion thread. With the demise of the old Game & Demo forum, the release something discussion thread was lost. However, I feel that discussion was pretty much done anyway. So, continue on with your discussion as usual if you will, but I would love to hear feedback on how to increase feedback and discussion for any possible upcoming events, such as the next Release Something! Day. Maybe we need another Play Something! event?
FUN FACT:
This will (most likely) be the very last Release Something! I host! Between now and the next scheduled RS! certain events will transpire that will prevent me from taking the time to organize the show. Luckily, the esteemed Magi has been voluntold to do Release Something! Day VIII (Subtitle Pending).
I'll probably retire from admin by then, too. So enjoy it while you can!

RS works much better when
1) You aren't trying to release your own game and getting burnt out with RM games in general
2) There aren't 23 other releases to deal with
So far I've played 3 games (V&V, Warriors' Dee RPG, and that board game one)
Also for clarity "Fuck Rm2k3" == "RMVX Template Project" which is currently down due to a big bug in the buggiest script included and I haven't had the time to fix it yet. (but it also means that the script won't need its semaphores anymore!)

Sagitar's "Prophecy" is a pretty good and very solid release, I would definitely recommend that one. Not much to speak of in terms of exploration or customization, but the presentation, story, and aesthetics are all very pleasing. The dungeons weren't too much to get excited about, but the game was very riveting. Very cliche story on the surface, but the characters and conflicts therein make alot of the game.
"Knight's Crest" by lolzallen is very stylistic, and I love the old-school gameplay, but I found myself bored to pieces partway into the first dungeon. the battles are all mandatory and there is no customization for your character at all, at least from what i played. I really dig the style and what the author was trying to produce, but some customization or something to DO (besides kill monsters) feels necessary. Perhaps some exploration, or some puzzles. Even "find the key" would be better than "walk down a hallway, kill this monster, go through door, walk down a hallway, kill this monster... etc".

I wasn't even around for this RS since I kinda died during the event. I'll be around for this release something though, an I sincerly promise that if I say I'll release something I'll actually do it and do it without sucking like the last two I was in.
I'll also try and be halibabica if possible.
Also in terms of making release something more popular I think we need more people to review the games submitted. I promise I'll at least try since I generally like the idea of this event. My only other idea was to make the most successful RSD game featured... But I don't think this would work to great.
