SO LIKE, THERE IS A NEW FINAL FANTASY DS GAME
Posts
And I wanted to see a rehashed version of Bartz and his pals. Guess I'll have to wait longer (for noething).

Oh Boy! Another Final Fantasy Game!
I think it all went downhill after X.
hmm i dunno, ff12 was pretty fun IMO...
The horrible character design on the DS ports completely ruined the most recent remake of FF4 for me. Seriously, the disgusting squashy characters? How am I supposed to take Cecil the DARK KNIGHT seriously when he's three feet tall and has twigs for arms? I'm about as hardcore Nintendo as they come, and even I'm considering buying a PSP to escape this watered-down crap on DS.
Wait, you hate the FF4 remake for having chibi characters even though the original FF4 had the same thing? I guess you don't like the original FF4.
Ah, no you misread my meaning. I apologize for being a bit unclear in my previous post...
This:
Does not equate to this:
"Chibi," while it does mean "small" in Japanese, doesn't reference the original FF4 sprites' diminutive stature when used contextually in terms of an art style. Almost all console RPGs of the day had 16-pixel tall character sprites, so we can consider the original sprites "normal sized." The newer chibi-styled renderings are a far cry from the originals.
I love original FF4. I am a little biased in that I'm much fonder of 2D gaming than 3D. But the first screenshot just does not charm me in any way, shape, or form. Sure, it's the same great story and great characters, but it's just not the same with these ridiculous chibi caricatures of the characters we know and love.
I must say though, DS FF4 has one thing really going for it:
It's pretty hard to complain about THAT. Aside from obvious handheld console graphical limitations, why couldn't the whole game just look like that?
Hopefully that clears up my meaning a bit. ;)

That screenshot of FFIV for DS doesn't look so bad. The bodies look fairly well proportioned.
The intro screen shot you posted looks like a shitty Xbox game, so I'm glad it doesn't look like that... plus there's probably graphical limitations.
I also prefer the original because it's in 2D though. I love 2D RPGs a lot more than 3D ones.

I don't really understand how anyone could like the 3D on the DS, I mean personally I find it looks like complete ass, I think they should just stick to 2D since that actually looks fine on the system.
On topic though... Yeeeah it looks and sounds pretty good actually. I mean from what I've glanced over in this topic it's like Final Fantasy I with FFV's job system and a skill system like the Sphere Grid, so, thats pretty awesome.
On another note that Animal Crossing type 'oh look you can see the circumference of the damn planet' thing they're using bugs me, but it doesn't detract that much (or anything at all).

the 3D on the DS looks like complete assLess personal statement, more statement of fact, pleez. :/ Anti-aliasing is one of the oldest tricks in ye olde book...
Nintendo had a good thing going with 2D handheld gaming. Why did they screw it up?

It made my tiny town feel damn huge. If I didn't love Animal Crossing so much, that still probably wouldn't be enough to make me not buy every single game in the series, but... I digress. It's a very present annoyance at worst.
post=92871I'll make it known that I don't mind the 3D at all when sprites are thrown over the top a la FFTA2 or Disgaea.

There's loads of new screenshots for the game here.
I got over FFIV's graphic style and enjoyed the game for what it was but this game looks better.

Are you telling me you would complain/wouldn't like it if the game looked like that instead of what it looks like on the DS?

make a console version
On the original topic, I suspect this game is actually 2D and was made in MS Paint.
I mean, really. I don't care about graphics, but obviously the people who made this care even less than I do.

Wow . . . I really love the look of this game. I guess a lot of people have a hard time getting over jaggies or whatever but it sort of reminds me of when I was 14 (in a good way).

Actually they seem to care way more about graphics than you do. The art style in this game is absolutely amazing.
