RPGS... YOU'VE BEATEN
Posts
FF Legends used a 'Disposable weapons' system. Every weapon had a limited number of uses before it broke, so managing your resources so that you always had enough cash to buy weaponry was a major part of the game balance.
It was also the main reason I got rid of the game. I hear the sequals are better, though, but I've never bothered to check them out.
I haven't tried Riviera, but I expect that it's a lot more reasonable with its depletable weapons.
I like how Burning Grail managed disposable weapons. It only encouraged exploration.

Brick reminded me of some other games I've beaten. =)
Parasite Eve (good)
Shadow Madness (PoS)
Grandia (meh)
Castlevania Symphony of the Night (way better than the next two)
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (okay)
Castlevania Portrait of Ruin (blah)
Alundra (I actually liked this quite a bit)
Landstalker (I also liked this)

author=Mewd link=topic=44.msg617#msg617 date=1181881821I liked FF Legend II's disposable weapon system (I haven't played the first one). The robot characters can be pretty helpful. While they reduce the amount of uses by 50%, they also can restore their amount in the Inn. Plus there are some infinite weapons (Mainly Excalibur and Masmune Magi, if I remember correctly). Also, the uses things and the way the characters levelled made it fairly easy to make a pattern out of it, like use the exact same strategy you did before to get some stats, save, turn off the game, load, repeat. I've gotten very high stats with my human/mutant characters this way before I even fought Ashura.

They removed this system in FFL3 and I thought it was just boring. I only played a bit of Riviera, but it didn't really appeal to me too much. So, if you're going to try a GB FF Legend game, I'd recommend 2.
I tried Romancing Saga 3, it didn't appeal to me either. So I'm wondering why I only like FFL2. Probably because I played it a whole lot when I was young. I dunno.
For the record, I absolutely hated FF Legend 2 and only finished it because I was a dumb kid who didn't know better.
I forgot about Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest! I think I beat it.... I played through a lot of it, anyways.
Brickroad, I'm suprised you haven't played through Dragon Warrior III. I think it rivals IV in awesomeness (though IV is slightly better, imho).

One of these days I'll just grab it off eBay. It's a little expensive but not so much as I payed for DW4.
I've beaten:
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts II
Pokemon Yellow
Pokemon Silver
Yeah, that's really it. I never beat video games. I own something like 300 games, and I've only beaten maybe 40 of them total. I always get to the end, but never end up finishing them. Especially the Final Fantasy games. In FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10, and FF12 I got to the end boss, but never finished the game. I have no idea why. I have a horrible attention span.

Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X (didn't enjoy this one)
Romancing SaGa
Romancing SaGa 2
Romancing SaGa 3
Chrono Trigger
Rudora No Hihou
There's countless others that I've just left halfway through.

Oddly, you're not the first person I've who plays games like this. Though, this one person suggested that the reason he didn't like to finish games was because he disliked the closure involved.
Though, man. FF9 had a really gratifying ending. I can't relate to getting all the way to the final boss of a game and not wanting to see how it concludes. (Albeit, most RPG endings tend to be kind of lame anyway.)
I liked FF10's ending a lot, though I didn't care much for the game.
Of course FF10-2 came along and invalidated everything in FF10's ending... but then 10-2 was overall a better game so I guess I can forgive it.
Yuna has the best line in any RPG ever in FF10-2's endgame sequence: "I don't like your plan! It sucks!" Of course she says it in that whiny needs-to-be-bitchslapped Yuna voice, so yeah.

You beat Septerra Core? I own that came, but I found trying to make that oddball magic system to work too frustrating. The manual and websites weren't very helpful, either. I never figured it out and just gave up.
I really liked the charge up method of attacking, though.

author=Mewd link=topic=44.msg659#msg659 date=1181930975Actually, I've seen other people beat all of those FF games I mentioned(except 12) so I do know how the story turns out. I can just never bring myself to beat the end bosses to Final Fantasy games. I HATE random battles and usually run from them, and by the end I always am severely under leveled, and thus can't beat the boss. So, yeah, I just need to learn to fight random battles :Dauthor=Ræn link=topic=44.msg654#msg654 date=1181929000

Sounds like FFT is the FF game for you, son. Random battles don't really matter if you play your cards right.
author=Tri-tail link=topic=44.msg720#msg720 date=1182022798I really love FFT, but I got my copy of the game stolen, so I never beat that one either :D

I tried FFTA (huzzah for emulators) but the game seemed really ghey after playing for 15mins. Was I supposed to be sympathizing with the bullies or the sappy tools they were picking on?
FFTA was a relatively bad game. The gameplay was great, but I really disliked the story. And even then, the gameplay in the original FFT was far superior to FFTA. I'd really recommend playing the original FFT.

The saps, of course. Although Mewt REALLY wasn't doing himself any favors.
I did not enjoy FFTA that much. The cutscenes were really lame, and I just didn't have any compulsion to finish the game. The gameplay was pretty alright, but got EXTREMELY monotonous. I never bothered to finish it.
Although, I will admit that the game has a really poignant message about trying to escape from reality. But it was still pretty boringly presented. Silent Hill managed to convey the same sort of message and be interesting about it.
I've beaten:
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy 2
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy 5
Final Fantasy 6 (over 30 times since I bought it back on the SNES. Haven't played it in 4 years though.)
Chrono Trigger (WAY over 50 times. Bought it back on the SNES. Everything past the first game was all New Game+. Crono is level 79 now I believe. Haven't played it in like 4 years though.)
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 10
Final Fantasy 10-2
Final Fantasy Tactics (Over 10 or 20 times)
...something I guess you really don't think about. I don't remember anything else besides those main ones. Uhmm.. maybe a Secret of Mana.. Terranigma and Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia are some too.
