THE STRAIGHT UP BEST FINAL FANTASY
Posts
There's been lots of love for FF9...but the only one's I've played are 1-6, 10 & 12.
Let me rate them.

I'm sorry, but FF5 just didn't appeal to me. They're all a fun time though, so I'm happy with all of them.
Although I still haven't beaten any... SAD FACE. ONE OF THESE DAYS!

Also, if you guys could just say FF8 instead of FFVIII, that'd make my world so much easier.
Also, change your avatars into images of dogs smoking. It's the new AWESOME.

FF7's story is so asinine... mostly the subplots and random character development-related shit but even the main story is a bit silly. Like for the first half of the 1st disc it's not even clear at all why it's rational for the party to be following Sephiroth. They kind of forgot to put the plot in.
But the thing is...I actually remember Final Fantasy 7, and I've only beaten it once and I haven't even seen it since I was 14 or 15, 16 at the latest. I remember the characters, what they did, their storylines, etc. I remember the plot, the locations (where you had to go and why) and the like. FF9 - present are a giant blur in my mind, even though I enjoyed them (well, mostly just 9).
I know it's cool to hate FF7 because it's ridiculously overhyped, overrated, etc, but the game was/is amazing and was very important for the gaming industry, especially RPGs, whether you like it or not. =P
That said, my favorite Final Fantasies will always be part 4 & 6 because they were the first RPGs I've ever played/beaten. FF8 follows.

It's confusing due to lack of information given, but the part you mentioned was explained.
When FF7 came out I loved it (at age 13, having played RPGs since I was 5), then after a few years I "realized" that it sucked, and now within the last year, I "realize" it's a game with lots in common with VI, just not as good.
Isn't ff12 like lolplay my game for me? not really the real time
I mean if I remember correctly they still have atb, if realtime + party member counts, Granado Espada or Sword of the new world is the best example for real time

I remember reading a topic on another forum with a few hundred posts of people discussing (civilly, it was a good topic) trying to find plot holes in FF7. They found none.
The story could use an improvement in exposition definitely, but plot holes? Can't really find anyway! I challenge anyone to try.

yeah, pretty much.

How exactly was it important for the gaming industry, apart from being financially successful? I don't think it really revolutionized RPG's if that's what you're saying.
I don't know about others but my personal reason for having FF7 high on the FF list is because of Aerith's death(come on, it's been 15 years. If this is a spoiler to you, you're uh...something that sucks.) I was barely a teen at the time so a death like that hit me hard. Didn't see it coming at all. I even deleted the save file and started the game over thinking I had did something wrong only to reach the same outcome. Sadness.
No but it did open them up to the mainstream consumer. Before FF7 came along RPGs were mostly for a select group, especially jRPGs. It opened the genre to the world in a large scale.

This is hard for me to decide. I'm going with FF9 and FF5. I have not finished playing FF6 yet (I plan to, I just got the SNES cartridge) so that may change.
I think FF9 was Square's last and best effort in the Final Fantasy series, mainly because it blended everything that FF accomplished into a good fairy-talelike game. As for FF5, the plot isn't amazing and I question the class balance. But it seems like the most classic example of an FF game. I guess it's pure personal preference that it's my second favorite (also it has the most original cast ever 1 guy, 2 girls and a loli).
I don't really understand the love for FFT. The plot always confused me when I returned to the game from long breaks "oh who was this guy?" "who's that guy?" "um I dont remember this dude" "what the hell is going on?" would always be on my mind. The game overall was okay, there was just a lot of little annoying mechanics that frustrate me though

Honestly, I prefer the days when RPG's were for the elite and not just for every random loser with a playstation.
