Des: Bwaha, Hitman. Bald guy with a gun. XD
I'm assuming that's an unfinished sprite for Sandfall? Or is it a new character? 'Cause I remember the main character having hair.

Hey despain first off the lip of the wall along with a roof auto tile looks a tad odd. Try covering the lip bit. Second what is that white blob thing? Third: Nice gauge but the black square around it cuts part of the map out. Try making that a semi-opaque.
Not bad but a little more detail could do it justice however since it's a gun game you expect a few empty areas so it's fairly fitting.

Never played/seen Hitman. The character's Jack, from a Sandfall side-game. I'm using it to test the new battle system.

You're right about the wall- right now I wasn't focusing on the graphics, but good find. The white blob is a pot (same shape as the ones at the bottom, see) in the middle of a flash animation- Jack just shot it with the gun. In the next frame it will shatter.
Third: Nice gauge but the black square around it cuts part of the map out. Try making that a semi-opaque.
I don't know, it doesn't really bother me much. I think it's out of the way enough to not interfere. If anyone else says the same thing I'll look into it though.

Yeah, test map for the new system. All of the pots in the shot can be broken by shooting them. :)
I'm in a bit of a quandary. Basically, REFMAP is still a bit limited in the different types of locales you can map in your game. As a result, I'm having to try to use more and more non-REFMAP chipsets. Doesn't matter; nobody is going to play one of my games for graphical consistency anyway.
Chipset test.
Adjusting Rm2k3 screen tone to 40/40/60/100 per suggestion to eliminate clashing.
Now the question I pose is this: Is the first screenshot an acceptable level of clashing? Or should I adjust the chipset, sprite, or use another chipset?

Unfortunately, I think the initial version of the screenshot is pretty iffy in terms of the graphical coherence. It's extremely obvious that the two (Chip and Hero Sprite) are not derived from the same source.
However, in the case of the tinted rendition of the map; well, I think it actually looks quite acceptable. If the nature of that location in QC calls for it, I suggest that you consider simply keeping it that way (darkened), or even simply finding a new chipset. I'm sure there are plenty that match better than that one.

Graphical inconsistency is the NUMBER ONE thing that will turn me off of a game.
I want to suggest manually recoloring the sprites to fit the tileset's color palette. That's the approach that I took for Sandfall and the result is really pleasing to me- it makes the game easier to work with because you're not relying on screen tints for consistency.
Unless it's just that one tileset in the entire game that stands out, in which case change the set.
Ignore Alex.
Original graphics? The brickwork and roofing is fucking badass, but the red tree and the leaves, and the mushroom on the side seem to contrast the rest a lot. The grass might also look a little too grainy.
But as a whole that is really gorgeous. Love the color palette.

You of all people should realize that it's fucking retarded when you darken the screen so much that you can't see what's happening on-screen. I don't really care if your resources clash so much as I care that I can see.
Just saying.
author=Despain link=topic=5.msg4240#msg4240 date=1192732188There are only three custom tiles in there; the grass. The house and trees are from Terranigma and the cliffs are from Rudra.

Him: I've already made the decision about what I'm going to do. I'm just trying to see how many people like Despain will dismiss my game as utter crap because of it.
If anyone knows of a better chipset to use, feel free to let me know. I am not changing my sprites from REFMAP sprites, and there is no proper tileset in the REFMAP collection to depict a location like this. Furthermore, manually recoloring anything is beyond my abilities. So, unless someone knows of a better chipset, I'm probably going to go with this one and let the chips fall where they may, so to speak. I think I can live if Despain and Blindmind reject my game over a tileset. :D

Well, I have nothing better to do...so I will just post these three. World map was too big, so I could only take a shot of part of it >.>
Whaaaaay?

That's the attitude! I may not like it but you should be making your games primarily for yourself. ;D
EDIT:
man what is with this trend of using ancient NES-style graphics.
Hey! I'm working on Hero's Realm again!
This is the coastal town of Remus, in the country of Estrucas. You can purchase a skiff to mosey on around the city and skim over to the nearby island, home of the University of Remus.
Moving platforms. You can't move into the hole, but when you step onto the platform, it moves you as it moves.
(don't know if this is new, but I didn't see it here :) )
