Oh man so last night? That little moogle guy was all like "Hey Aladdin or whatever, there's an ANCIENT MAN OF MYSTERY and you should kill him." And I as like "k" so I go to these mines, and this six-armed man drops in, and suddenly that awesome battle music from FF5 fires up, and I'm like "Wow it's Gilgamesh! He's totally going to kick my ass!"

Anyway I killed his dog pretty easy, and managed to stick Slow on him and steal his shield and gloves. Then, after a pretty wild fight that was easy-but-not-boring I chased him off.

So I took a trip to the beach and found the key for the next part of the mines, which is full of L60 monsters. My L45-ish guys slowly made their way through, having to stop every room or so to re-buff and heal up and Charge their MP. I was on edge the whole time because I came THIS CLOSE to dying every single fight. But eventually I found a save point which put me at ease.

So then Gilgamesh and his magic dog come back in, and this time the dog is a freakin' gangsta. Even though I manage to get Silence and Blind to stick, I have to Dispel his goddamn buffs every few minutes. There was one section of the fight I was so deep in the hole that my guys literally did nothing for a long time except die, get revived, immediately use a Phoenix Down on the other dead guy, then die again. Even if I could have gotten Curaja off there's no way my guys would have been able to withstand the beating now that their Bubble and Protect had worn off.

So I swapped in my other team, which sucked because they were L46 while the other team was L47, so L2 Sleep kept wrecking my shit. Anyway I kept them alive and awake long enough for them to re-buff my L47 team. So I pulled them back out and put every ounce of my attention to killing the damn dog. FINALLY he died and I could turn my attention to Gilgamesh.

I couldn't get Slow, Blind, Silence, or Exploit to stick, but at least I could Dispel his buffs, so I start whacking on him. I take his hat and armor for my trouble. The fight gets all the way down to the last 10% or so before I can't damage him anymore. He uses his super-move nonstop and, even though he's nob buffed and I am, I can't hit him for more than 500-600 damage, and that's assuming he doesn't parry.

Knowing that my stock of Hi-Ethers and Elixirs is long gone, and my other caster would be unable to heal consistently thanks to L2 Sleep, I bite the bullet and blow all my guys' MP on a quickening PRAYING for a good combo.

Bam! 14-chain combo + Luminecense concurrence = 28600 = DEAD.

Finally able to exhale, I go and save and marvel at the fact that the fight took 51 minutes. Holy crap. I don't think I've ever had a fight that epic in an RPG before, and am not like to again... unless there are better bosses later in FF12.
I love the swords he pulls on you.

Is Gilgamesh like, the only constant character spanning multiple Final Fantasies?
I dunno. Some of the summons have character-style appearances in multiple games. Bahamut has had speaking roles in several of them. Gilgamesh is almost certainly the one with the most characterization, though. And FF12 actually brings a lot of the old guys back....most of the summons are former Lucavi from FFT, plus the Totema from FFTA which were themselves adaptations of bosses from earlier FF games (Including Exdeath, or "Exodus" as they call him, himself), and a lot of the Marks are FF12 versions of old characters, too. Like Ultros. Too bad he was more of a blob than an octopus.

And even though the personalities stay roughly the same, I'm not sure whether or not they're supposed to be the same Gilgamesh. But it'd be pretty awesome if it was.

Anyway, yeah, FF12 is pretty great. I've played it a bit, but haven't bought it. I'm probably going to wait and import the FF12 international edition. I haven't played an International edition of any of the old FFs, but I hear they always have some even more epic bosses and sidequests added, and I've got Swap Magic anyway.

Gilgamesh gets the ability to transcend universes from his desire to own every fruity-looking sword in existence.
I'm just trying to figure out how in the world he gets some of these swords.

Did He just go to Cloud after FFVII and be like "CAN I HAVE YOUR BUSTER SWORD PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I MEAN YOU DON'T EVEN NEED IT ANYMORE RIGHT?"

Man, I have that desire too! Why can't I transcend universes?

Is my desire just not STRONG enough?!

...and Cloud was like "That old shitty thing? Go crazy. I have this ULTIMA WEAPON now anyway. Also a Nail Bat."
Actually it seems that Gilgamesh can't get a legendary sword that isn't upon closer examination a fake. However, I was more surprised by the fact that the generic legendary sword he (temporarily) leaves after the battle was a copy of another legendary sword. The Wyrm Hero Sword. aka The Sword of Erdrick, or the second strongest weapon in the game (and one that doesn't require a license to use). And the best part is the fact that you can aquire this after beating some of the hardest bosses in the game.

Besides Cloud's gonna need that sword again for the movie.

I was disappointed when Cloud pushed his magic motorcycle-sword button in the movie, and pretty much all of his swords from FF7 shot out EXCEPT the Nail Bat.

Then they brought a bunch of dead characters back to life and tried to re-create Aeris's death scene with a cell phone.

Advent Children was pretty... and that's about it. If you try to think about it too hard, your brain asplode.
It's a movie that doesn't acknowledge it's prequel as much as it tries to be it.

Oh, you'd better believe it.
*won't spoil anything*

Also, I just noticed that there's a quote button! Whoops.
I've been chronically playing FF12 every since I mustered up the courage to start over again. Per Brickroad's inspiration, I am dividing my 6 main characters into two "teams", which should make things a lot easier than trying to constantly mix-n-match like I did the first time through.

I have Balthier on the axe and I keep getting the feeling that Baush (sp?) wants to be a monk from his quickening animations. Hm... I wonder if I should spend the 120+LP to allow him to wear the monk armband and get the ability to + non-armed attacks.

Don't waste your time, by the time you learn Unarmed Fighting, aquire the Monk's Armband, and the ability to equip it you'll have far better alternatives available. Too bad we won't be able to see the upcoming expansion that actually allows the development of job like attributes. (unless you live in Japan or are big on importing)
Both options are available to me right now, but yeah, I have a +50 attack sword at level 20.
I seriously need to find a better way to level in the Leviathan. I'm only, maybe, an average level of 12. I gave Penelo a Quickening, though, so hopefully that'll help in the Judge fight that's coming up. I lost the last time 'cause I couldn't combo right. .___.;;
I haven't even used Penelo yet. I am short on equipment money. :(
I'm using... Ashe (with a Spear), Balthier (with a Pole), and Penelo (with an Assassin's Dagger, I think). I got attached to Ashe with a Spear from watching a bunch of videos on YouTube and seeing her own with them. So, yeah. Balthier also gets some nice hit combos with the Pole. I really should see if I can't hit up some White Magic for Balthier, though, so I have a healer, instead of having Fran in my party at all times. <.<
I'm actually waiting for more people to buy this game so I can get it cheap for $30 or so and then beat the crap out of it. Everybody says it is excellent however, so I'm really tempted to pay the full price :P.
