2007 MISAOS
Posts
Because Holb is lazy...
"It's that time of the year again, folks.
For those of you who have been caught unawares, the Misao Awards are one of the longest running RPG Maker community awards around. Started in 2002, the Misaos are entirely user driven - final voting right down to the category selection. Any game with a demo release or greater in the previous calendar year, in this case 2007, will be eligible, as long as they are not of a commercial nature.
The big winners last year were Grave Spirit (7 Misaos, including Best Complete Game), Kinetic Cipher, Again (6 Misaos, including Best Dungeon Design), and Wilfred, the Hero Part 1 (6 Misaos, including Best Music). Once again, these games and categories were selected entirely by users, not staff members or a selected panel.
The process will go as follows:
I. Category Nominations (January 19-20, 2008)
The category nominations phase allows registered users to nominate what categories they would like to see the games voted for. Whether you would like the traditional "Best Game" award, or, something more edgy like "Worst Use of a Basketball Player in a Science Fiction Setting", the choice is yours. Similar nominations may be grouped together or discarded entirely. This phase will last for two days (Saturday & Sunday).
II. Game Nominations (January 21-22, 2008)
This game nomination phase allows registered users to nominate games within a category. For example, nominate "Charles Barkley" for "Best Protagonist". You cannot nominate your own games, only peers can nominate your works. Once again, similar nominations may be grouped together or discarded entirely. This phase will last for two days (Monday & Tuesday).
III. Voting (January 23-24, 2008)
This is the real meat and potatoes. Registered users finally get to cast their vote in one catagory, several categories, or all of them. The moderation team will be actively reviewing votes cast to insure there are no duplicate votes from the same IP, and also to ward off attacks for rabid Ron Paul fanatics. This phase will last for two days (Wednesday & Thursday).
IV. Official Results (January 25, 2008)
After all the votes have been counted, counted again and recount, the final results will be available on the main Misao/RMN site.
Please note that to participate you MUST be a registered member of http://www.rpgmaker.net and that the 2008 Misao site will NOT be available until January 19th. The site will be going down for maintenance on January 18th to update for the Misaos and other general updates.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask in this thread, via PM or at RMN.
Disclaimer: The Misaos are an independant gaming award ceremony and, while integrated at RMN, does not discriminate against non-RMN submitted games. We welcome games from all corners of the community and encourage participation from everyone.
Games that have been identified as having fraudulent activity will be disqualified, and users who have attempted to cheat the system in the past will have their games and/or votes barred."

Just one question.
about a week ago i uploaded my new demo of Demon Destiny 1. The only change since the previous one was it has less bugs in it. Would i be able to use my latest demo in the misaos as it is the same as the previous one except for less bugs?

Rootin' for Onyx 2. :p
Total Chaos (me) was released in 2007, too. It won't win anything, but I thought I'd just throw that out there.

Everlong 3.0. More than a thousand maps, custom systems, puzzles in almost every dungeon (not just push-the-boulder puzzles, either--run away from the fire snakes puzzles, whirlpool-surfing puzzles, evade-the-astral-projection puzzles, etc.), a large cast of characters, etc. Does old-school questing much better than Aveyond, and for free. With a plot that doesn't suck, at that! Not to mention Final Fantasy references.

Otherwise, Alter AILA, Hellion and (I guess) Onyx 2 were pretty good. Valdis Story had the best custom graphics and the best "first boss battle" in any freeware game ever, and Rise of the Third Power probably had the best music.

I hope Dragon Fantasy gets at least one vote 8)
Ha ha. Well, I don't really mind, actually. If there is a old-school game category I'm gonna vote for either Hero's Realm or...uh...Hellion.I can also pick paradise Blue...hm... :-\

iish brought up a good one that was released last year: Last Scenario. And I'd have to agree with his statements on GW - it's the only RMXP game that I've played that could ONLY have been done in RMXP. And it's a darn good game to boot. Could've been a little more interesting, but otherwise, it was a very nice game. ... forget who it was made by, though. And I can't check 'cause it's on the SA forums.
I'll never forgive Kazukeri for not releasing Dragoon Legends during 2007 because now I'll have the same situation in 2008 that I had in 2006, where two of my soundtracks were competing against each other.
Misaos lost credibility to me when Wilfred The Hero's mediocre soundtrack won a misao. I'll never be able to fathom that one. O_o
OMG DRAMA OMG
It's ok, I'm not sure most people even knew LoD's soundtrack was original.

Actually, you're right. I didn't know the music was custom when I first played LoD until later because it blended in so well!
On the other hand, Mala's music is not typical of RPGs at all and sticks out like a sore thumb, so it's pretty obvious.
Make a point out of that with LoD2. It is a selling point, after all. ;)

His name is Origami. Seems like a pretty cool dude, though I'm not sure how much he actually knows about the RM* community.

You're just jealous because I won first and third place with two separate games. Don't be a jerk, man.
I don't know what you are talking about harmonic, I really like Brandonabley's music, well, what I have heard anyways.
I played some of grave spirit before my computer crashed, and the music was awesome, and it was fitting to the game, so don't go around trash talking it.
EDIT: Demo games can win Misaos? I ask because a lot of the games listed there don't have full game downloads... as a matter of fact, some don't even have a download at all...
Nevermind all of that, I guess I didn't consider that Misaos could include things such as "Best Game Demo" or "Greatest Game Page" etc...
BTW, I am making an effort to play a lot of the games released this year, in order to make a greater variety of choices for Misaos. I have also been coming up with ideas for misaos for a while now, I just want to spout them all out!
EDIT: Ahaha, I don't know how many times I will edit this post, but I don't want to double post, so.
I just noticed that my game is on the list, LOL. It's hardly even anything yet, but I suppose if it could win anything, it would have to do with the character customization, which took forever. As a matter of fact, I challenge you guys to open my game, and go to the character customization event, it is HUGE.
Also, what are the limitations to the games? Can they be offsite, or in forum posts? Because I swear I can't find half of these games on the list, so I don't know where to look...

The music in Grave Spirit was fantastic, Although i didn't like the game that much due to not being into that kind of genre. (didn't say i hated it)
Haha, such extreme reactions. No one's "trashing" anyone. You kids should probably settle down, this smells like an imminent locked topic.
