Talking about it in #rpgmaker.net, next year things are going to be cleaned up considerably with the nominations.
Didn't you say that last year?

Sorry Ken I didn't release my game last year haha, I should have though and some people will agree with that. Oh and Ken could you change my name from Eijin to Tau(PMs aren't working)
I am completely new to this whole Misao thing. Do you have to consult somebody in order to get your game into the contest? I think it's already too late though.
People just nominate games to the given categories. If people have played your game and think it deserved a nomination, they have the option of nominating it.

The entire award process is user driven, really.

Help me add/delete/modify this working list! I can't even guarantee that it'd be used next year, either.
I definitely recall seeing a category called The Brandon Abley Award nominated by more than one person. Why isn't it in the contest??

It's still there. It was just renamed to "Best Original Musical Score". Also, you were one of the two people. That is kind of like self-nominating!

You know we still love you.

Because I stripped out any sort of named award, Him. It isn't fair in my mind.
Off topic for the thread, but can I just ask why exactly people call Brandon Abley "Him"? It's bugged me since I've seen it

Edit: My initial suggestion. This chops it down to 50. I removed all the individual and community awards - I think it's better if the Misaos focus more on the games. I also changed Male and Female protagonist awards to best male/female character, combined the graphics and sounds categories and Game Design and Battle System categories, and removed some of the inflammatory negative Misaos.
I think that Karsuman's revised list is really good. It's very clean and organized and seems to include all of the really important categories. I also agree that individual and community awards are not really relevant and that we should focus on the games -- community awards tend to degrade into a very strange sort of popularity contest.

However, music and sound design are extremely different things and removing the award for Best Use of Sound (I recommend changing the category to Best Sound Design) is in poor taste. I would very much encourage that you not remove the award for sound design.

To be fair, it wasn't my idea. <3 I was kidding around anyway because I thought it would have been pretty ridiculous to have the BlindMind award and the Brickroad award etc.

Yeah, MaladroitHim was my old alias years ago before I thought it was classier to just use my real name. It's still my AIM name and my alias at some forums that I have been at for several years, so some people still call me that!
The problem with the sound design award is that it really falls under the category of atmosphere. And since it's often a very subtle thing (despite being important), it'll be hard for anyone to really remember a game that specifically had good sound design by the time the Misaos come around.

I'll wait for more input on it. There's probably some other things that should be changed, too.

Edit: It seems I accidentally removed some stuff. Fixing now!

Edit 2: Fixed.
Best Game Title always seems to be a pretty popular award, even if it is minor.

I have to say that I liked the community involvement when nominating categories. We should take this Karsuman core of games and then open up 5 "slots" for nominated categories - the 5 with the most nominations would be in that year's Misaos. For one, it would help the Misaos from becoming stale, and B) it could present creative new categories that we might like to incorporate officially in the next year's. These 5 categories would pretty much replace those in the Wisaos.

If we did that, though, we should take out 5 more from Karsu's list:
Biggest Disappointment
Meaningless Symbolism Award
Most Egregious Butchering of the English Language
Most Vapor Up the Ass
Best Boss Battle

Also, is Most Vapor up the Ass == Release it already! ??
Release it Already and Most Vapor up the Ass are similar, but not really the same.

Release it Already assumes the project actually has content. Most Vapor up the Ass assumes the project has little to none. At least this is how I view it.

And yeah, best Game Title is a neat award. We could probably get it in. It always gets lots of nominations.

And I think five community nominations is a good idea.

My initial thought is that 50 is too many categories. I don't like having a huge amount of them.

An idea I had last night and talking to Holb would just simplify a lot of things. Cutting out the entry nomination part. In the past this seemed to be used as a filter for joke entries. However, I think a purely popular vote is the best.

Last name Illustrious wanted to nominate Razorblade Symphony for Most Overlooked. But it wouldn't do anything because it didn't meet the two nomination requirement to move on.
Yeah, 50 is quite a bit.

I think a combination of the voting for categories and having a certain set of standard categories (like Game of the Year, Best Gameplay/Story/Graphics/Sound) will reduce the clutter lots.
