WHAT DO PEOPLE CARE ABOUT?

"This applies to me so well. I must refute it."
It is pessimistic, but sadly accurate. Maybe overgeneralized.
I don't think it's accurate at all. Theres probably less than 10 people on this site who only care about their game alone and nothing else. I see that almost every "big" member here is active in the community, they frequently comment on and play other peoples games, and also encourage and help people.

If anything, that post represents a minority.

What do people really care about? It's pretty obvious if you look around.

A cursory glance around the site suggests they care about clinging to their favored maker of choice and shouting down any user of any other maker as silly, inferior, somehow not as good as themselves for their choice.

They care about showing off, about looking down on others and making sure everyone knows how awesome their own project or custom system is, even if it never sees so much as a single release.

They care about getting as many people as possible to play their game in all circumstances, even if they will readily admit that they would never even consider playing anyone else's game. (Because it is obviously inferior to their own, naturally.)

Some of them actually care about improving themselves as makers, but it's easy to say you want to improve.

This is what the actions of the userbase of this site suggest to me that people care about. What they will actually do when they're not saying they care about things they think other people think they should care about. I have seen very little to suggest otherwise.

I disagree for basically the same reason as Lennon. I play a lot of the games that come through the site even though I don't talk about it all the time. And I always dislike that MY MAKER IS BETTER stuff (and I recently wrote a long essay post about why I hate such arguments). I release stuff occasionally and I suck at hyping my own projects, so maybe it just doesn't really apply to me...

Hate to be a broken record, but I don't agree with this too much at all. Yes, what you listed does exist on this site, but it's certainly not as pervasive as you suggest.
Well, maybe what Solitayre said doesn't apply even to a majority of people, but I think it had to be said.

Oh this is pretty much right, but it might be a bit of an oversimplification.

I haven't played an RPG Maker game in some time (The last one was the new Alter Aila I think). The reason being; there's nothing interesting out right now.

Oh, I'd like to play Everlasting Journey - but it's not out yet.
Oh, I'd like to play Love and War Act II - but it's not out yet.
And so on ~

I'm sorry, but looking at the last release event; I find very little interesting things to actually play. I was going to try the unfortunately titled "Blood Machine", but I doubt I'd have a different opinion than DE on the game, and it needs the RMVX RTP. The apathy gripping this place cannot be this simply explained; but for me - that's pretty much it.

Important edit!

How could I have forgotten about a game I had persuaded erilex to translate, Dhux's Scar was the last RM game I played.

I honestly think that most of you fall under Soli's post. I guess you know yourself better than I do, though!
I'm only similar in the way that I don't play like any games on the site. But it's not because I think NL is the best, its cause they don't make me want to play them.

You might not have been calling me out in the "most", but I should defend myself anyways.
I don't agree with the overly long pessimistic statement either, however my exposure to the site is short comparatively so maybe I'm wrong. I try to play some games, those that others have given good reviews or just games that look interesting based on their description, but it would be pretty hard to try and play every game you come across and still have time to develop your own.

I mean, the fact that we even have a topic like this should say that at least some people care for more than boosting their own ego and deflating others'. Or something to that effect.

I have seen this a lot recently. While I'm not the biggest fan of VX's mapping/graphics, I have never really "shouted down" to a user for using it.... I think.*recalls VX is blocky comment*

This post is scaring me off, I will never post a video again :'(

Hmm, if I had a game, I would be happy if even ONE person plays it, especially if they are an 83 year old Australian man.

I've been a long time lurker in the RM community and have played dozens of RM games back in the day. I was there when Dark Dominion, Skytowergames and Rpg2knet were thriving. I was there when Feld had that awesome Q avatar.

I was there.

As for right now, I'm with Nightblade on this one. There are games I am interested in, but have yet to be released. Looking forward to Phantom Legacy, Sacred Earth: Memory, Feld's game and of course, the Admiral's next game in the Love and War saga, .

I don't think you get what games are for. You make games for people to play - lots of people, because why waste months of your life for five people to play your project?

Maybe I'm one of the few aspiring-beyond-amateur people here (I see myself as one close breakthrough to indie; I just need another successful title), but I have an important message to all of the people who think "I JUST NEED ONE PLAYER" (of which you are not the only one; screw you kentona):

The point of making a game is so that people will play that game.

You are not making a game for yourself, or for THAT ONE PLAYER. You are investing a ton of time into a product that you better fucking be proud of and ready to get lots of people to play. I believe this is more than an idea or philosophy and should NOT be only part of the community's goal. Don't kid yourself, and don't make shitty games.
I care about having a good time!

And avoiding rm drama (oh hi rm lps)

If this happens sometime soon I will dislocate my spine and eat my own ass.

Good thing my definition of "ANOTHER successful title" means I need like 50,000 downloads more than the sakgnslaking 4,000 V&V has. I don't even know why I said I already have a successful title; relatively, yes, but not really.

As much of a jerk as you are, NB, I would miss your often rooted-in-truth messages.
