MAPPING TECHNIQUES (YES I READ THE OTHER FORUM FROM START TO FINISH)

Posts

I'm still trying to get em into the thread! I'm putting them in brackets but I'm failing.
And also, the map isn't 200 x 200 its 100 x 150. I just zoomed out REALLY big. However Rowan hit the nail on the head, I was using 1/8 (or 1/4 can't remember) when I made this map.

Replace the parentheses with brackets (located to the right of your "P" key)
my main point is that a map that's 15x20 is the size of the screen. (or it is in rm2k3 anyway). It is much harder to make a huge map like a 100x150 appear good, as there is a lot more space to fill.

Really? These forums work in fricken HTML? I feel REALLY fail now. I'm taking an Advanced Web Page Design class right now. Got it anyway, there's one, one sec.
Whats with all this talk of brackets? It's not as if you can't show them in normal posts. [img]http://rpgmaker.net/media/content/users/7897/locker/map1.JPG[/img]
Edit: Darn connection.

Anyway, the map I looked at was too large and empty. Shrink it down!

No, they use BBCode. It's the standard markup for forum use.

Try

next.

Haha, thanks GameOverGames I'll keep that in mind. Anyway, here's the second one. And also, I apologize how part of my screenshot program hadn't loaded out of the screen when I took the shot. About half of the map more is under it.
Ugh, bad time to post didn't see Chaos' yet.

There's one, jeez I need to l2 use forums. (Sorry first online community for me here)

Edit: Also, if the screenshot thing is messing this photo up to much, I can go retake them.

Number 2, sorry if this is technically considered forum spam.

No foul for spam, bro, you'll get the hang of it.

The first real, glaring flaw is the sheer size of these maps. Try cutting them down to 40 x 60 or smaller - big maps make it easier to have a vast excess of empty space, which is generally undesirable.
Cut down those image sizes in paint or something real quick so only the map is shown. And yeah, you need to make your maps way smaller and with a little more decoration.
Right can do GameOver, give me a moment, I'll get a better image of the map.

And to Chaos, yah I'd l'll cut down the map sizes, but then the glaring problem becomes, world maps? Do I simply just have the game run through several small screens?

Internet Tip #1: The PrntScrn Key on your keyboard can be used to take screen shots. Push the key (which copy's everything currently on your screen) and paste it in your favorite image editor. Cut/delete out the access and viola.

World maps are generally a different beast when it comes to that. For those I'd suggest starting with a smaller map and trying to fit as much detail in as you can - landmarks and recognizable features (a strangely-shaped bit of coast, for instance) are paramount to helping your player not get lost. If you find yourself in need of more room at any point, then increase the size of the map. Just don't start to big and try to stretch too little map over too much space, if I'm making sense.
Yah you're making sense. No worries, here's the updated versions of the maps, smaller sized, and without the glaring screenshot program.
