GAMES AND WHY YOU PLAY THEM

RM is to videogame designers what Comic Sans is to graphic designers.
except for the fact that Comic Sans is pretty universally hated and blacklisted among graphic designers, whereas the game designers who seem to hate RM the most are the ones who use RM.

Yes.

at least it wasn't papyrus.
oh god
EDIT: I play magical games because I can feel the magic. This sounds really dumb, but it's true! There are games that I really like/respect, but really can't play because I'm not drawn into the magic. The same is true the other way around; mediocre games with The Magic keep me going. While I'm a NUMBERZ dude as a creator, I'm actually really casual when playing games, so I rely on cool worldbuilding/characters/animations/SOME SORT OF MAGIC.
Dragon Quest VIII is one of my most favorite games ever - I've beaten it after 100 hours, unheard of for me - because it is incredibly magical and also just fun/well-done/beautiful/interesting. A lot of my game design choices come from the cool ideas in DQVIII, too.
The World Ends With You is a very complex game with magic coming OUT THE REAR END. It is a game that sucks you in and holds you until the very end (and then you unlock THE GAME: THE NEW VERSION: THE OBSESSION which I didn't do because I don't do sidequests in games very often). I didn't really go crazy with the SYSTEMZ or anything, I just had a fabulous time... twice.
Can't beat around the bush; I barely play games. Always been that way. Only time I bother is if it really catches my eye, or I am part of it (community event or contest).\
The reason: I look at RPG Maker and these indie things like electronic boats in a bottle. They're fulfilling to build, but no one will bother with it. So the real satisfaction is the building.
As such, the biggest reason I don't play games, is because I AM playing a game. RPG Maker isn't programming or anything really, it's just playing a game. So, yes, I post my crap here, though the crap I post here is crap that I personally enjoy building and playing. It's here for no better reason than the next game.
So yeah, that's my 'reason'.

In response to EnderX's comment about nitpicking, that's a very good thing: he's extremely thorough and provides some of the best feedback around.

Right, games aren't interactive at all, or made for people to play.
I'm pretty sure you misinterpretted or maybe read into my post on purpose.
That's MY reason/thinking on the RM subject. Obviously not everyones. Don't jump down my throat about it.
EDIT:
It is great to hear when someone plays and/or enjoyed one my games. Though it's totally not the reason I make them; I stated that reason above.

Actually, I liked his analogy about the ship in a bottle; I rather feel the same way.
To me the excitement in launching a finished game is more that I have an open ticket to do anything with the next project, and less that I've posted a completed work. :)
Am I the only guy who plays his own games...?

True for me as well, although usually I have more than one project going at a time. I mismanage my time like that often
I play a lot of games around here, but only if they have a nice description, and avoid DBS bullshit. I could post a list if anyone wants. I think I've played a demo or something from everyone who's posted in this thread.

I dunno, I pretty much play my game from start to finish dozens of time during the development...
Well that's kind of a given.
I was talking about revisiting your past projects just to play them; seems like there's some unspoken rule where you just don't do that.

I play my games for testing's sake, not for fun. I test everything a zillion times, when I'm to play the complete version, I'm already sick of it. Sometimes... before that.

Well, after playing it 16 dozen times over and over and over I guess I tend to get tired of it!

Yeah I play my gams a lot. They make me laugh. And I don't have to download them.

I was just playing Total Chaos last summer for shits and giggles and I loved it despite its datedness. Make of that what you wlll.
I usually play RM games when I'm on break. If it looks interesting, I'll download it. I don't really care how pretty it looks, but more so how unique it looks. If a game looks and sounds too much like every other game that's out, even if it uses gorgeous graphics, I probably won't download it.

This.
I play games when I have absolutely nothing else to do. Usually I'll find something creative or time wasting to do before it comes to that.
Or if I'm morally obliged.
