GAMES AND WHY YOU PLAY THEM
Posts
I love playing through my own games. Especially playing through some parts I haven't looked at in awhile. It helps give me perspective, but that's not the only reason. I just like my own games; even after having it in front of me for so long.
Maybe that's the problem around here. If you can't even be assed to enjoy your own game; how can you expect other people to?

Yeah, I think the problem on all RPG Maker sites is that a lot of people want their games played and reviewed, but aren't willing to do the same. I've managed to break that bad habit, and have been greatly entertained/inspired as a result.

Extremely important point. Playing other peoples' games is great for ideas/inspiration for your own project. The projects I work on have been greatly improved by all the other RM games I have played. Whether that makes them "good" or not, I don't know, but they are without a doubt "better."
Another unfortunate trend I have noticed around here is that pretty, legendary nostalgia projects, or other high profile games that are in development tend to be much more highly regarded than many quality games that are actually released, even if they are never released in any form. Worshiping vaporware doesn't help anyone.
Remember what I've said...
1) I am way to ambitious to endeavor evolving my ideas into games ALL BY MYSELF
2) RPG Maker is not a good enough medium in which to evolve my ideas into games.
Oh proceed to hell, proceed directly to hell, do not pass go, do not collect $200. I could probably name two dozen people who made better games in RPG maker all by themselves than you could make with a $10 Billion budget and the entire Bioware team under your direct command. I am not flaming you in particular I just hate BOTH of these fucking attitudes and combined together they are like a megazord of bullshit.
I have avoided posting in the last six or so pages of this thread for (In?)obvious reasons, but I strongly agree with that last thing Solitayre said.
He may just have pinpointed the one thing about the community I would change if I could only change one thing.
This, on the other hand, I can't DISagree with more:
As such, the biggest reason I don't play games, is because I AM playing a game. RPG Maker isn't programming or anything really, it's just playing a game.
But this is LEGION disagreeing with DUDESOFT here so no one needs to die of shock or anything.
Am I the only guy who plays his own games...?
Obviously no, from everyone else's responses. I love PLAYING my games. I fucking hate TESTING them. Super fucking massively important distinction. One of my main motivations to finish a game is so I can finally stop TESTING it and fucking play it, although sometimes I need a year or more in between so that PLAYING no longer feels like TESTING by habit.
It is so nice to be able to just play your own game for an hour without having to quit out and fix some infuriating error in the database.
Final Edit:
I think even chipping away at little things helps. For example, commenting on gamepages, blogs, and actually giving feedback when a creator could really use it, for improvements sake and for simple encouragement.
I agree, and I also notice that I seem to give a lot more than I get in this regard. Now before anyone says 'lol sour grapes' may I point out this is directly important to the topic at hand? Because when I feel like I'm commenting on other peoples' shit and they are ignoring mine in turn, it makes me only want to comment on the games of people who have commented on my games, the 'reciprocal paradigm' that is so problematic and yet so deeply entrenched. Does anyone know what I'm talking about here? Does anyone feel the same way here? I really want to know.
Then let me re-phrase myself--AGAIN--Max...
There are a handful of ambitious projects I've been planning (i.e. making characters, writing things down, etc.) for a few months now. RPG Maker is a good program and all, but I would never cripple these projects by trying to articulate them in it; I feel like they deserve something a little better.
With that, I currently don't have games in development for RM.
