CloseSo what do you guys think is the best free game on the internet? (NOTE: Excluding all RPGMaker games + any other makers associated with this site).
My personal vote goes to GunZ: The Duel. For those who don't know, it's a 3rd person online shooter RPG that essentially features matrix-like gravity. The game was a little bit glitchy, but that ended up MAKING the game because a whole style of play revolved around exploiting various minor glitches. The result? Extreme skill based gameplay that is a TON of fun and VERY addicting.

Uhh...dwarf fortress. I'm suprised (and disappointed) it hasn't been mentioned yet.
Though I was surprised that it had been mentioned already!
It's probably the free game I've spent most time playing, so it has to be the best. Right?
Cave Story, Cortex Command, Soldat, Hydorah, Iji, Vanguard Princess, The Spirit Engne 2, Hedgewars...... I don't know, I have so many favorites that I can't pick just one. I have about a thousand freegames on my HD, so yeah.
Also, Roguelikes are pretty much my bread and butter freeware games. I made a large post about them some yhears ago... lemme dig it up...

anything involving guns, Pyschos, pain, mutilation, mass murder, huge swords, drugs that improve stats along with weird and funny after affects, lots of explosions, lots of death, and buckets of blood

I am caught between Cave Story and La Mulana, though La Mulana still perplexes me more than Cave Story in a good way. I am probably going to pick La Mulana if I ever beat that blasted game.

Knytt, but then I haven't played Cave Story yet and am definitely downloading it right now...

yeah, i know several people that now have carpal tunnel because of this game.
also, it gets old very quick, unless you're playing on a private server. there used to be one- Brittle Bullet- that was fucking ace. i loved that damn server. then it died, as did my interest in the game. using my sword to bounce off the walls like an idiot was pretty cool though. tiring to do over long periods of time (ie the time i spent running away from EVERYONE) but i never found that much use for it. my playstyle involved abuse of grenades (sometimes intentional deaths to get my grenade ammo back) and game-breakingly overpowered handguns.
that was pretty fun, but chasing a bunch of wall-jumping idiots around the same five maps over and over and over gets REALLY old.
